You’ve trimmed the pitch and it still does this? There seems to be a bug where I get a violent pitch up or down as I accelerate or decelerate through certain speeds (these speeds vary based on altitude maybe) but most of the time it’s stable enough if trimmed. Something’s probably broken w/ the flight model, or maybe it’s something about stability augmentation modeling in BMS I don’t understand and am using wrong.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jv59Choyw6Y.htmlsi=4uHMoahuRpNMRwpW The beauty of a sparrow fired with no lock in BST is I should be able to crank up to the radar gimbals and fire a SECOND sparrow at a second bandit. So I wasn’t in STT- I decided that some I’m facing 2 bandits with one behind the other by a couple miles, I’ve want Jester to “track” both bandits till within visual range on the closest guy. I was hoping I could bag them both - killing the trail bandit just before he passes me in the merge. Pulled it off in a previous flight.
Look for F4E and the “WSO” category of controls. This is a list of controls you can map so you can work the backseat controls from the pilots seat. Check for fine gain increase and decrease, antenna elevation up/down
Now you can play with gain and antenna elevation from the front seat with jester enabled. Use your wso-antenna elevation controls for the pilot, and jester won't override that. Gain control from the pilot seat is also an option, but jester will override it after a few seconds unless you'll slightly change it all the time. He wil react to the contacts that appear in higher gains only. That way you can do the same thing as you do in this video without jumping between cockpits
that button is for uncaging sidewinder seekers just before firing. the Cage button is what enters cage mode, a 5 mile range radar setting which allows the WSO to lock something in your pipper, or the pilot to enter auto acquisition mode by then pressing the nose gear steering button to attempt an auto lock. Here I'm just entering cage mode, putting the pipper over a visual target, and firing a sparrow with no lock. The missile interlock switch must be in the "out" position, and the aspect knob in the back seat must be in the proper position - watch other flood mode tutorials about this
I’m calling it “boresight” but technically the WSO hasn’t selected the actual boresight switch position from his seat. Kinda an override from the pilot seat but this should be called “cage mode” as I understand
The manual is good…but while it tells you what certain switches do, it doesn’t do much to explain WHY you would want to do a thing and how to execute it. What I need is a “Chuck’s Guide” and I can’t guess why these developers don’t pay him to put their manuals together. I feel like there are a lot of things I don’t even know that I don’t know about the Phantom
It really is. I know there are a lot of pages but there isn’t a lot ON each page. One page for a picture of a switch and a description. I get though, that this was done to allow for the in-game manual “pop up” - which is VERY helpful. I just wish the manual would explain how certain features should be used and why you would want to use them (instead of just the switch to activate it).
I think if you like just flying the F-16 in a Mil-sim environment, BMS is great. The BMS A-10 isn’t close to the DCS A-10C in fidelity while I can’t speak to the F-15 in BMS as I haven’t flown it. BUT…what if I don’t want to fly an F-16, F-15 or A-10 ALL THE TIME? DCS offers dozens of high fidelity aircraft from different nations and different eras; not to mention helicopters. I can fly some missions in an F-16…and then hop in an F-4 Phantom for a Yom Kippur 1973 scenario. Then I can take out the Mi-24 Hind or an AH-64 Apache. Then I can play a highly realistic F.A-18 campaign where I’m based on a carrier before diving into a 1989 “liberation” campaign flying the F-14. DCS offers so many high fidelity platforms and lets you experience them over 9 different maps in whatever era you would like (with corresponding correct weapons).
Did they change the options for this in the 4.37.4 update? I can't find any of the F-15 specific bindings in the keymapping menu, all I get are the F-16 related ones like DMS, TMS, etc
@@Wheelman_PCAS Don't worry, I found the answer, apparently the keyfile I had was just incomplete. While I have the commands now, apparently they don't work as seamless as they do for the viper on my stick. Thanks for the reply though!
I find aim-7Es to be useless. Even when Jester gets a lock, you wait 4 seconds and -when you fire- the enemy is nose-on hot 3 miles away, it will miss if the enemy aircraft moves at all. It’s hard to practice your procedures and tactics when you can’t tell whether your missile fails to guide or hit b/c you made a mistake or because the missle failed. For that reason, I think people should learn how to use the aim-7 with the “M” model. The Aim-7m is a really good missile so if you follow procedures and launch in parameters inside 5 miles, you have a really good chance of a hit. So if it just flies off and doesn’t track, you know YOU did it wrong.
@@Wheelman_PCAS Yes, the Aim-7F is an improvement over the E model but i don't find its by a whole lot. The Aim-7M variant that came out in 1982 is a VERY capable missile and performed excellently in the 1991 Gulf War. They are deadly in that 2-5 mile range. Doesn't mean it hits all the time but it is reliable enough that - if you are using the systems properly, you should have no problem taking out head-on approaching aircraft 5-6 miles out. If you are consistently having Aim-7M missiles fail to track/impact, then you are likely doing something wrong. I advocate using the variant that is realistic for the time period; BUT, when it comes to learning the system, use the variant that lets you know when you are doing it right. You have no idea if your Aim-7Es aren't ever hitting b/c of your error or the missile failing, Makes correcting errors tough
@@mikeck4609ah ok. Reminds me of the shrike in the A4 and also this plane. But hey at least the E can be fired in boresight without a lock to scare people before the merge.
Boresight lock with aim7E sparrows is less desirable than a flood mode lockless launch since these missiles take 4 seconds after a lock to “warm up”. Strategies must take type of aim7 (E vs F at two seconds warmup)
The gaminess, highly depends on the (public) server vs. a like minded group or squadron. The public and "popular" servers tend to attract a specific crowd.
@@Wheelman_PCASyes It makes sense of course. And also, in the worst scenario, it is better having our ground forces to deal with truck and support units than them. So, it could be a win-win anyway.
@@xagremnightyndale673 The campaign engine definitely detects, when a SAM radar has been disabled.Maybe it detects destroyed SHORAD (Sa-13, Shilka...) Either way, this would make A2G flights, together with CAP/Sweep, more likely. It does depend on the overall situation and how the AI has set priorities (if kept to "set by HQ"). The AI is somewhat smart about this and you should see regular CAS/BAI packages in "cleared" areas.
@@fonesrphunny7242 thanks! This is very interesting. I am always looking for ways to be effective for the campaign engine and stimulate its planning to push the action. Any suggestion is appreciated
I learned to check the stability of the ASE circle/ dot. It jitters all over the place when you’ve locked something spurious. If you have a good lock it seems to steady out pretty quickly. Also I think the In Range lamp lights up and goes dark randomly as you can kind of see here.
Ive been trying to get into BMS for years now but Ive never been able to get into the community. DCS for me has always been easy to just hop onto a server and have fun. Even with DCS and it's problems it's been my go to combat sim and I enjoy it to this day.
Well, I hope you haven’t found anyone in the community to be particularly rude or offputting, majority of people seem very cool, and there are these very casual pick up flights on Sundays and Saturdays with the UOAF. Casual, but leaning towards MILSIM.
@@Wheelman_PCAS it hasn't been any negative interactions but Ive gotten extremely unlucky with only finding dead forums/groups and/or groups operating outside of my availability. I also didn't have any guidance for where to find people so I'll look into who you mentioned
I was waiting for a long time for BMS to get VR. Didn't take long to jump over from DCS, where I was getting bored of the rinse-and-repeat of learning systems and cockpits, only to have nothing meaty to use them with. Liberation doesn't cut it when compared to BMS DC, and there are so many broken underlying systems in DCS that are made stark by BMS. BMS has solid bones. DCS simply doesn't. Forever hoping DCS improves, but my faith rarely gets a top-up.
The required rate of descent on final is equal to groundspeed divided by two. 150 gs equals 750 fpm. Just add a zero. The sooner you get the gear out and let the jet extend the leading edge and trailing edge flaps the sooner you can reach the stability you are looking for. Putting them out late naturally destabilizes your approach until you bring it back in line.
I still always get a little hop on Landing unless I really really really really grease it, but after I understood the stabilized approach, I never crash landed again, or floated too far
Both DCS and BMS have their merits. The dynamic campaigns of BMS are absolutely stunning from my perspective as a DCS player. However, something that I'll likely never get to experience in BMS that has absolutely captured my heart in the last several years is flying helicopters in DCS. I've never had as much fun in a flight sim.
I tried and actually it was about the same, maybe…? I hooked up quick in DCS but found myself using the same way I had to in bms- I think a lot of it is flying at the boom instead of by the lights like in the viper. Just surprisingly different technique
@@Wheelman_PCAS No, I haven't flown in BMS for years, maybe I'll try it soon, I'm waiting for 4.38. I think that tanker lights are more visible in BMS, and the lack of boom physics in DCS is annoying.
Can you get a tblisi approach plate and fly the dme arc / use the approach fix? Idk if dcs even has those. Good job btw! This is what dcs simulates best in my opinion. Great vid
ru.flyua.net/images/charts/UGTB.pdf - a 2011 chart that shows some different headings and elevations vs. DCS Tblisi chart - which is also not current?? DCS chart shows runway 12R not 13R. Anyways this has a 17.1nm DME arc @ 6700' from the VOR on page 11. Finishes the arc at 14.5 DME - right about where I wound up by winging it except I was very high up!
@@briantoplessbar4685 I have flown DME arcs before in BMS, but never really tried fiddling with the course dial like you’re supposed to - stepping constantly thru different radials as you fly the arc. Will have to try it as well
@@Wheelman_PCAS yep in BMS I just set the final approach course after I intersect the IAF and fly the DME arc till I get till I hit turn to final. Preety much just keep correct distance and that’s it I guess I need to map my course knob!
This is a "digital cockpit simulator"! Look at the bomb effects! Has anyone seen the Mk-82 live ammunition in action? It's terrifying! In DCS, it's like watching fireworks! There's no mobility kill, the effects are poor! The ground graphics are horrible! Without high-quality ground textures and infantry, why would anyone want to simulate helicopter operations? You can't create dynamic missions or campaigns without extensive scripting, and even then, the performance is terrible. Currently, the multi-crew feature in the F-4 causes a 50% FPS drop, and turning on the radar causes another 50% drop! Test it for yourself! Scripting can become buggy with updates. You can never truly simulate a battlefield-maybe a mission, but even that can be historically inaccurate due to poor terrain. Key events in modern air combat are missing! Desert Storm, one of the most important terrains, is absent! Vietnam! I'm not even mentioning Korea! Where should I fly my F-86 without Korea! how about block 50 Viper and SE! I need Iraq and Saudi Arabia! Where should I fly my F-5?! I dont like to do campaign with F-14 in Nevada! F-4 and UH-1 needs Vietnam! Where is Mariana WWII! what happened to DTC ? Volkan API? ED has broken promises since 2018! First, the excuse was COVID, and now it's the Ukrainian invasion. I own most of blue modules and almost all terrains (except SA) and all campaign! my relationship with Ed is love and hate ! spending 10 years in DCS! Just fly BMS and try it, the graphic is horrible BUT almost 1 guy developed dynamic campaign! its community driven! no one paid for BMS! Falcon 4 is only few dollars! check the COMMS in BMS, kneeboards, AI, IFF ... all and all much better than DCS!
I understand, and I think a lot of my optimism comes from being a new player. BMS team doesn’t make promises that I’ve seen- or at least one that can’t keep.
The problem with DCS. Its always unfinished. Every module, is Unfinished. So much is placeholder, So much is lied about being accurate only for die hard fans to actually rip code out and catch them lying. Controversy after Controversy such as ED not paying its developers,Core mission makers and Modders leaving the game even with Key RU-vidrs leaving, and when games like BMS and Warthunder Dominate the market everyone always asks them selves, do they really want to spend 80$ on a product that is made by a company with a track record of not finishing anything they promised to finish. its easy to pass on DCS.
