Does it help stiffen the leather also? Would be a final great touch to that spray.

Beautiful BGT, gotta love those wire wheels & knock offs. Mine nearly a carbon copy with exception that mine is a lefty with the rostyle wheel rims. Is the dash wood stock or an aftermarket kit? I did my console & glovebox door in a red oak veneer then used about 6 coats polyurethane wet sanding between coats. Yours is very nice.

I purchased a hat from this company in the US there was a guy that traveled the hunting show circuit. I purchased two of them from him over the years. He recommends a beeswax that comes in a tin. I purchased a 10 from him and that stuff last forever. I need to treat the leather again to keep it soft. These are very cool hats. I’m going to bring my hat with me to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia Philippines I’m going to travel for six months to a year. This hat is going to get abused! I wish I had the original cloth bag . I have no idea what I did with the cloth bag. I’m sure I’ll find something that will suffice.. Nice video thanks for the pointers!!!

Hi there, great detailed video, thank you! I was just wondering how this was holding up? I'm thinking of getting one, but it's a lot of money, and I aren't particularly well off, so it'd be an investment which would have to last for me. Any advice appreciated.

I'm an Aussie. Had an Akubra for years. Wear it on the farm. Love it but wanted a Barmah so I could fold it up and shove it in my belt if need be, Its a bit more versatile than my Akubra. The price is still $100 (AUS) 7 years after you made this video. Its a great hat. I'm really happy with mine.

Be careful using it around a fire. Melts just like fleece. I found out the hard way with my brand new bush shirt the first time I used it. Keep in mind I have 30+ years of experience wearing wool, fleece, and even down jackets at fires. I was shocked at how fragile this wool was compared to my 20+ year old wool clothing and blankets that I still wear and issue to the girls or kids at campfires. The bush shirt looked like a tattered old wreck full of holes after just one night. I can only surmise that they aren't the same product since they switched production over to china. My new bush shirt is relegated to a very expensive dog bed for camping/hunting trips now...

Not sure exactly why today your video popped up but I've had an old Australian hat that I bought at a fair when I was 16 years old and I'm pretty sure it's a squishy room I'm 39 today still one of my favorite hats for when I go on the few adventures I can

Hey, love the videos on waterproofing and conditioning. I now have recently purchased a sundowner Roo, and a crackle on the horizon. I’m so fussy about my hats and want to keep them looking good and protected. And you seem passionate about yours as well. So, which do you prefer now, the Barmah waterproofing and conditioner spray or the wax, on this video? Neither of which I can purchase in Canada. Online from the UK only. Or I’m off to the local leather shoe/repair to fine something. Hate experimenting! Thanks.

I called Barmah before buying a Vintage kangaroo for my son. Asked the Rep a size for my son’s 23” head. She suggested a XXL. Apparently sizes run a little small. I believe all kangaroo skins are made in Australia, but other hats made in the USA. Customer service rep very friendly and my call was answered within five rings .

Of all the Aussie hats, this is one of the best. The Akubra rabbit fur felt hats are probably the most popular, but don't take well to any folding or more rough conditions. With frequent use, they will get a hole in them within the first decade of wear. Barmah's squashy leather hats will last a lifetime (with proper care).

Good hat but treat it well. Don't store it in the bag folded twice. It's the second fold, stored for a long period that will affect the shape. As EJ suggests keep it in its open shape when not in use and only fold for travel. Fold once if you have to, fold twice only if you really have to. But don't worry these hats can be reshaped with some simple techniques, but that's another video. Oh, and yeah, I do have this hat.

Just got by mail my Squashy Roo and Squashy Roo Cooler. I ordered XXL size and frankly.... It's on the small size for an XXL (Canada & US size). If you have a big head, take a true measurement before ordering.

Was thinking of going the Eastwood or Jones' but now settling on the Roo look. Currently looking at Barmah or Jacaru, both I believe are Aussie. The Barmah 1018 IS ironstone looks a contender ATM. BTW, will any wax do, especially for roo hide?

I bought the vintage Kangaroo Barmah for volunteer Search and Rescue work in the US south central states, which get extremely hot and sunny in the summers. I needed a hat that could hold up to me shoving through brambles that scratch up our arms and faces without getting knocked off or caught, could protect me from the sun and rain, and which I didn’t have to worry about ruining from these activities. It also helps to keep the many ticks off my head that drop out of the trees here, especially when I treated it with Permethrin, which didn’t damage the leather. I absolutely love my hat and have worn it on many missions, training sessions, and travels. It’s perfect for what I use it for, and all I need to do to care for it is condition and waterproof it every few months or so. I had a hat customizer in Philadelphia customize my hat with a hat band that is bright orange and makes it more visible for when we are in the woods during hunting season and I put feathers in the hat that I found while we are in the woods, as well as various pins I’ve gotten while traveling. These hats are simple yet nice looking that it is fun to customize them and personalize them to you. I did purchase the chin strap because while this hat holds in well in most conditions, we got some very intense wind in our state and I have had it blow off when we are searching around lakes or in the plains. With the hat strap it stays securely to my head when it is windy.
