I live in NW DC and about to get my first motorcycle! Pretty nervous about riding it home for the first time from a Fall Church VA dealership. Watching you ride on roads I'm familiar with is giving me more confidence.
@@atonaltensor Congratulations! Have you had a license/ridden a bit, or is this not just your first bike, but your first riding outside of the MSF class? If the latter, you can always have your bike delivered. Ease into riding at your own pace. If that’s absolutely not possible, I recommend heading to the dealer as early as possible, and try to find a parking lot to practice in, and as you get more comfy expand from there. I remember how psyched I was to get my Scout - excited for you!
@@stimsonromano2258 Thanks! It’s been a bit since I threw a leg over that Rebel. But still comfy with my view at the time that if you had $ flexibility, the Scout was the more pleasing choice! If I had to make the choice today with that Rebel vs the 2025 Scout Classic, the Scout is a harder sell. Throttle isn’t what it used to be with the updated electronics!
That Indian Hauler cab 🤯 Did some demo rides during bike week in new hampshire. The people working there were super nice and helpful. We got to ride a little early. Only questions upon return were: what did you think and what do you want to ride next. Did sports chief, FTR and a chieftain. I didn’t take out any of the bike tourers. But I love all the roadmaster includes. The challenger is nice too. You want performance or comforts. Next year or two going to be owning one of them!! 😎
Awesome beautiful bike. I own the very same one and Love my bike. My only 2 small complaints are, gas ⛽️ tank could have been little bigger and seat a bit comfortable, but overall it is an amazing bike and the looks it has and the ones you get are super cool. Safe riding guys
@@josearzuaga1839 Congratulations - you own an awesome and beautiful motorcycle!! I totally agree on the gas tank, but so far I’m pretty happy with the seat - everything else starts to hurt faster than my butt, at least. 🤣 Really though - it’s a ton of fun and just stunning. I could have gotten a 2023, but I just had to have the colors on ours! 🔥✌️
@@DMVSoloRider I agree. It’s super sharp looking 👀. The seat issue is not major, but for a 235 lbs, 6’2”guy, Sometimes it could be a little more comfortable
I hear ya on the heat. I have an ST1300. Holds all the heat from the engine. A few times the gear had to go!!! Felt like I was riding naked. But it was that or get sick and cancel the ride.
I have a speedmaster video up. I don’t think they’ve made any changes to it since. Lovely bike - just a perfect country cruiser, and has plenty of power for that purpose. If I had to ride a stock bike - no changes to seat, bars, etc, I’d have to go with a Speedmaster over the new Scout. I just can’t handle the stock Scout riding position. 😢
I agree with you totally. I'm 60 years old and a new rider. I took the safety course and passed it several years ago but never really rode a bike. I am after comfort and maneuverability. So I think the Speed master will be a much better choice. I will practice in the parking lot like you did to get the feel of the bike. Thanks for the reply!
@erolyalim2911 Fantastic! Just take your time and progress at the pace you’re comfy with. You’ll be flying down the road before you know it! And that speedmaster is a real looker! ✌️
I found your channel, this video, while researching, trying to find any information about a quiet helmet for recording audio moto vlogging. I decided on HJC because I am finding they produce the quietest budget helmets bellow $300. Specifically the C70, entry level $180 known to be reasonably quiet. I love modular helmets, but I was avoiding them because they tend to be noisier. What I appreciated from your video is that you gave us an actual live sample of how it sounds as you were riding, and I was impressed with your results, you actually sounded much better and natural with the i90 compared to your ICON Flight helmet. Stating all that, could you clarify a couple of things. Were you using all the same components on both videos except for the two helmets of course and the different bikes? Same purple panda mic, same sound external recorder, same GoPro camera, similar settings on the audio recorder, I guess the audio recorder allows you to tone down the audio gain to avoid clipping, which the go pro doesn’t do. You made a lot of emphasis on the issue with the GoPro not recording audio if you use the record auto start function, in which case you have to result to getting a media mod, or not recording in 4K, or just using the power button to start the camera manually, but that is not convenient. The solution to all that is jump ship to the new DJI action 4 camera, it doesn’t have any of those issues, more reliable and much better night dusk recording quality. I have held back from purchasing a sound recorder because I want to keep it as simple as possible, specifically not having to sync audio, but I do see the advantage of a reliable and more customized audio recording equipment. Back to the helmet, having a quiet helmet that’s 75% of the battle. Unfortunately, I only see a lot of how to videos on how to attach the camera to the helmet, but no videos review that shows the final audio results like you did. That HJC i90 sounded so clean and Natural, I think that’s going to be my next helmet. I also noticed that at 3:51 the exposure changed on your video, did you made some camera adjustments or did you corrected on post? Normally when recording me from the handle bars, I have to increase the exposure on the camera to expose the black jacket correctly, but that completely washes out the sky, in this video, you managed to maintain the clouds details as well as your black jacket being well exposed, maybe your GoPro 8 is that much better than my Hero 7.
Glad you found the videos to be helpful! Same equipment/settings in both videos. The only editing I do to the audio is play around with the base - some videos require more and some require less. Also, uploading to YT can produce different results from video to video requiring adjustments. But my skill set is as basic as it gets. 🤣 If there’s a perception in Video/color quality it’s likely due to weather conditions - sunshine/cloudy, etc. 🤷♂️ The only thing I will change, which can make a difference, is using superview or a standard view. Superview can wash out colors, and while I filmed the HJC video a while ago/don’t remember, my guess is when I filmed the HJC video with only 1 camera facing me, I did not use superview. Definitely would make a difference! As for my cameras, there are definitely better options - im just not filming enough to worry about it since I already have 2 functioning GoPros. At some point I’ll try something new! As for the audio/noise between the two helmets in the two videos, keep in mind the Airflite is a really noisy helmet. Audio may sound better in the HjC in these two videos, but the results of my mic work in the airflite are definitely more impressive! 🤣 Oh, one other point about the HJC - I think I just had the mic crammed in the ear pad in that video (never did glue in a clip), but I was also riding slower - makes a big difference. Ultimately, whichever helmet you choose you can manage. I also pick helmets based on my riding needs, not filming needs, and that’s what I’d recommend to anyone wanting to do some vlogging. ✌️
I know, and I’m not a hard leaner. But for that $ I still wanted the headlight to jump out of the bike and hold up those orange glow sticks they use at airports to gently guide me around not-very-sharp turns. 🤣
@@walkingsouth6141 the specs are the same exact as stock bars, and I had a total of 5” of pullback added to stock. If I could do it over again, I’d probably go with 6” or even 7”. I went conservative, because it wasn’t clear how much excess wiring I had (you don’t want to splice/extend stock wiring on a challenger - interferes with computer; uncertain if Indian has released any sort of OEM extension). When my dealer put the KST bars on they told me I still had several inches of excess wire. 🤷♂️
Geçen sene aldığım 2021 model Thunder Black Scout ilk motorum.Onunla güzel vakit geçiriyoruz.Göz alıcı kromları ve klasik görünümü bana epey keyif veriyor.Türkiye'den tüm Indian sahiplerine selamlar, sevgiler.🧿🪶
Just found your channel, and I am so excited. As a short rider, I only have a 27 1/2 inseam on a good day, your opinions mean so much. You are one of the very few that discusses inseam, as opposed to height, which is more important. I presently ride a fully decked out Scout 69, as well as a Harley Softail, and a massive Victory Vision which I have named Titanic. Not sure if you have ever riden one, but I would sure love to know how a Cheiftan would compare in suitability for a short rider. I thik if you were able to do reviews on older bikes of all makes and models for shorter riders, you would gain a lot of subcribers, as I know there are so many shorter riders that want to ride the bigger bikes. You have a new subscriber. You deserve to have so many more,
Thanks, I really appreciate it! I think of all the videos I’ve posted/comments I’ve received, those like yours are hands down my favorite and make me feel like I’ve contributed something meaningful! I absolutely agree - inseam is what matters! I haven’t ridden a Vision, but I put 11k on my first bagger - a Chieftain! When I did my review I made a point of emphasizing/talking about my fit. Check it out and let me know what you think. You may already be watching them, but check out @doodleonamotorcycle and @BikesILike. Doodle is a shortie and usually puts good emphasis on that, although at 32” her inseam probably gives her an easier time on tall bikes either of us. Lol BikesILike does videos where he will pose digital models of different heights/inseams and how they may fit on various bikes. Excellent info! Titanic is an awesome name for a bagger! 🤣👍
A few times after upshifting I felt a rubbing sensation in the clutch when I was letting it out. Only happened a few times and I guess I forgot about it by the end of the ride. Can’t say there’s anything wrong with the transmission - could be a demo bike thing, or could have just been me for all I know. 🤷♂️ I’ve never had any issues with the transmissions on my Indians.
Yeah, that’s what was on my Challenger. I actually tried the larger shield they make, and that was overkill. What can I say, but I want no buffeting, but also to not have to look through the shield when it’s all the way down too. Just a challenge to work through with bikes, right? 🤣
The Classic looks awesome in the red colure, I test rode the FTR last month a found the rear brake to be low on performance. What are you test riding next?
No, it was at Indian Motorcycle of Fredericksburg. I don’t think I’ve seen Chesapeake Cycles do a demo day tbh. Just a good reason to visit Fredericksburg! ✌️
Welcome back, we haven't got the new Scouts this side of the pond yet, but I like the look of the Classic the 101 looks good I do believe you can get mid control set up on the 101.
Thanks, nice to be back for a few videos! It’s a great update! On a 101 I’d put floor boards on, handlebars that come way back, a back rest, and still just rip around locally! 🤣 If I could change anything about my motorcycle history, I’d have kept my original American graffiti-esque Scout Icon!
Indian also sells front control extensions for a couple more inches to straighten and lower your knees a bit. I'm thinking that might ease the clam-shell feeling a bit. Of course I'm 6'3" so reaching the bars is not an issue.
lol I have two other Challenger reviews on my channel, including a 1 hour long in-depth video with chapters. This was a final thoughts/why I got rid of it video, and there’s nothing lacking in focus about it.
@@Gregsagert1 couldn’t get both feet down, but getting one down & shifting in seat isn’t a problem. Riding an Indian FTR now, with a higher seat height - not a problem for my short self. 😎
@DMVSoloRider thanks. I might be coming over from a HD RGS today. I've ridden my buddies pursuit for about 30 min and didn't notice my butt hurting(this is a good thing considering my HD oem seat was terribly noticeable after a bit of riding). I noticed that the challenger and pursuit seats were different so I'm looking for some perspective is all. Appreciate the reply
Ah, got it! I was really pleased with the seat over 30k miles, and a number of butt burners. Worst case scenario is you decide you aren’t a fan and swap out for a saddleman or something. 🤣
@@Gunker02 Totally agree! I mean, for a shorty like me bars are almost guaranteed. But I’d be disappointed if I knew I had to buy a seat immediately! I think you’ll be pleased with the stock seat on the Challenger/Pursuit! 👍 I’m really pleased with the wide seat on my FTR, and managed with the classic seat on my Scout. Only Indian seat I hated was on the Chieftain.
Well done video, thank you, I'm 5'10, a bit over that and I hope I'm tall enough for this bike, I was listening but possibly I missed you saying your height. I have a cruiser but but I'm torn whether to buy the Pan American or go to the opposite end and get the Sportster S, I know they're vastly different bikes but I love the new water cooled Revolution Max 1250 engine and it's on both. Thanks for the fun video, new subscriber, ride safe brother, peace! I live in Washington State, are you on one of the San Juan islands?
Welcome aboard! I’m in Washington, DC - other side of the country. 🤣 At 5’10” you’ll have no problem with the Pan-Am. I’m 5’6”, so standing upright I can just get both feet on the ground with the dynamic suspension at its lowest setting. As for the two bikes, if you love long cruises I can’t imagine picking the Sportster over the Pan America. Far more comfortable, loads of power. The power delivery is perhaps just a bit different than what you may be used to on a traditional cruiser - PA still has tons of torque, but revs higher than a typical cruiser. It’s been a bit since I rode the sportster, but I recall the engine being tuned a bit different so you got a bit more low end grunt. Still also revs high - that bike is far more like my FTR than a cruiser. 👍
Hi there! I'm a short female rider and still looking for a bike that matches my height and taste. I'm 155cm (so around 5 feet) So it's been really difficult to find something besides a cruiser. With my current bike i'm only able to reach the ground with one foot, so this doesn't give me the best amount of confidence when riding on difficult routes. Do you think the lower version of this bike will be doable for me? :) Thanks!
Unfortunately, the adaptive suspension on the Pan-Am only lowers the bike by an inch or two. At 5’5” I could only get both feet on the ground when standing up, and it was a close call even then. I suspect at 5’, one footing bikes is the way it’s going to have to be for you. On the bright side, if you get comfortable doing it, then all the bikes are yours! ✌️
thanks for the review of the I 90 HJC helmet. I have the previous generation, HJC. The part of this helmet you are reviewing that bothers me is, I use a SEN a prism tube camera for my RU-vid channel videos. It clamps to the bottom edge of the helmet. I prefer it on the left so I can switch the camera on and off, which are the only controls on the camera that is the size of a roll of nickels. With my left hand. If I’m riding one of my bikes, that doesn’t have cruise control, I don’t want to be taking my hand off the throttle to operate the camera. So I want my camera on the left. I mount my GoPro camera in the middle of the chin bar to a strap on mount. And that vent cover in the middle of the chin bar would be an issue. I also have found that, mounting the external microphones in the ear pockets inside the helmet is the best place so far to avoid that wind roar . this iPhone 90 helmet is supposed to have an overlapping gasket around the bottom of the helmet that makes it quieter. I was wondering if that also would make it a bit hotter.. One little thing I do to my inner flip down sunvisor, I put a piece of carbon fiber, like contact paper across the visor, actually, I only have about half of an inch of the visor, not covered by that carbon fiber, contact paper, because when I’m driving into the sun, I’m sure you know what that’s like. Putting that contact paper across the inside visor, solves the problem. also, the absolute best earplugs I have ever used, and I have been riding for decades I have more than 700,000 miles behind bars, mostly commuting, is swimmers ear plugs. They are like soft taffy that you can form, and they completely seal.. you get them in a little plastic case about 2“ x 3“ in Walmart sporting good section for a few bucks I noticed you don’t appear in your videos, neither do I. I am not a narcissistic ham, like some RU-vidrs. I don’t add music either.. you mentioned you were in 100° temperatures in South Carolina and Florida. I have only experienced 100° temperatures that I know of one time here in Western Pennsylvania. I was riding with a few friends on route 50 across West Virginia into Maryland, which happens to be the best part of Route 50 I am hearing, that goes from. I think Sacramento California all the way across to the East Coast somewhere. I think Ocean City, Maryland. but I was all dressed in my gear, which I always wear, leather jacket, full face helmet, Kevlar, jeans, Street bike motorcycle boots, .. I was not hot riding my moto guzzi SP 1000 until I saw a Clock thermometer in front of a bank that said 100°. When I saw that, then I got hot. do you want to consider buying a personal mister .. it’s a small plastic bottle, a little larger than an electric toothbrush, with an air pump at the bottom, and a very tiny jet like a fuel injector Jet at the top on a swivel. You fill that up with water, pump the pump up a few times, and push the button when you’re at a traffic light or a stop sign or even while you’re cruising on the highway, and I spray my throat and my open jacket with it and it really does make a difference On those stinking hot miserable days.. I have a larger personal sprayer. It holds about 16 or 18 ounces of water, it has a hose about 30 inches long with a jet at the end, it’s called a misty mate.. that thing will spray continuously if you turn the valve and leave it on for about a half an hour. It comes inside of a semi insulated bag. Yeah, if you fill it up with ice cubes and water, it’s cold all day. I have a review of it in my video about what I carry in my saddlebags as standard equipment always.. Good video. Thanks.
Pretty sure after 30k miles and lots of experience, my issues mostly boiled down to engine vibration interfering with the connection between my phone and the USB outlet in the glove box. Using a wireless dongle helped protect my phone camera from damage, but the dongle itself still experienced connection interruptions from time to time (particularly when gunning the throttle on the highway). Only real solution would be wireless CarPlay - they put it on the new HD bikes, so hopefully Indian will follow suit. Doesn’t help older bikes, unfortunately.
@DMVSoloRider Thanks for time. I also do YT and know what it take to make a video. Maybe later I'll get a iPhone 🤪 thanks for everything . My bike is in the shop. indain dealership update the software and going to put in a new battery. I asked the question on a forum and almost everyone said change the battery or check the terminals. 🤷♂️
I’m in tropical north Australia and it’s seriously hot sometimes. Gotta admit that in town I mostly ride in t shirt and jeans and ride shoes with gloves and i30 open face helmet. I really struggle to find jackets etc in whiter tones for the tropics
I hear ya. Last trip down to FL I was basically jacket-less the whole time. I’ve completely lost my ability to suffer from heat/humidity while riding after I almost passed out on my bike a couple of years ago. I’d rather get injured by being gearless than crash cause I passed out from heat due to the gear itself! 🤷♂️ Still, the HJC is a great helmet for high temps!
just picked up the exact bike a few weeks ago i love it so far and have been looking for a new set of bar ends for it, have you had any issues with them as you have been riding? like any loosening or anything?
Nope. Indian told me they strongly recommended against, because it was never engineered to work with the Challenger/might cause electrical problems. Then I traded the bike in, so…🤷♂️
