Very nice tutorial! I love the soudmnd you get at the end. I wonder if it would be possible then to modulate the CV1 oscillator with a sawtooth LFO to make a staccatto so you get a rythmic bass + a "supersaw" lead?
Thanks! Yes, the sky is the limit here. I'm really just trying to demonstrate ideas to get you started and how to plug in, but any idea you get afterward, you should definitely try it out
@@EthanJamesMusic1 Thanks, you are good teacher. I don't jave a 2600 yet, I just have a Behringer Crave, a Yamaha TX81Z and a Korg Monologue (plus some other bitd and bobs). However I feel I have outgrown the Monologue and I really enjoy modular patching so I am thiniking of replacing it with a 2600 - possibly a B2600, which will fit nicely in my rig. Your tutorials have been very inspiring and I will surely return to them when I have my new toy. :-)
Hi, I am trying to learn more about this synth and finding your videos very helpful, thank you. I've also discovered your music, which us a big plus. 😊 I have a question: is the arpeggiator an external device, and how do you feed its output in, CV to one/seceral oscillators? Thanks!
Hi! this case, the arpeggiator is part of the synth, because I have the model that include the keyboard, which has a built in arpeggiator, LFO, and a few other things
What do you have? This guide is intended to help you understand sound design in general, so you will be able to take these ideas and use them for what you have, but I can try to help you out.
Nice. We've released a few experiments lately, with Moog synthesizers played as if they were a Buchla, or in that direction, or inspiration. Hearing you play helps in learning to evolve this idea. Here's an example ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oo_vfZD7Q2c.html
Hi, if you wanted the DFAM to fit in with a rhythm based on 7, could you not give the other device that is doing a 7 based rhythm a 'master' role in terms of determining the rhythm, and have the DFAM re-start it's sequence from it's first step the device given the 'master' role determines this ? Is there any CV 'command' or signal which would make DFAM restart it's sequence at a given point, if another connected device has a 'master' role? Thanks
Unfortunately the DFAM doesn't have a reset input, so the sequencer is stuck to 8 steps. You can do patterns in 7 by bypassing the sequencer completely and just using the trigger, velocity, and pitch CV inputs.
@@EthanJamesMusic1 Thanks for the response. There's still something really compelling about this machine, plus the possibility I have seen on one of your other videos, where a patch link creates some wild rhythms that are not based on 8. I don't know how controllable that is, but it's very interesting
@@tierno3790 yes, it's really useful, especially for live performance. I think you may be talking about either the advanced sequencing or the ratcheting video, where you use the square wave from oscillator 2 as a second trigger.
dear Ethan, can the Command 208 be syncd by a midi clock? I bought the EHX 45000 looper hoping i could sync them but i am unable to work it out. Thank you.
Yes, I can think of a few ways that might work. I think your best bet is to look at the implementation guide here: buchla.com/guides/208C_208MIDI_Implementation.pdf and then see what your 45000 can do. When I'm syncing the clock from a DAW, I send either Pulser trigger on A to B or Sequencer trigger on C-D. Let me know if that doesn't work.
Thanks for this super useful tutorial, very easy to follow and great presentation style! Describing how the changes affect the sound and why they are being made really helps makes the connections, you are a great educator! Of course the sound design is top notch
@@pepuletrz minibrute or minibrute 2? The 2 has clock inputs and outputs, so that won’t be too difficult. I’m not sure about the original minibrute. Lmk and I’ll help you
I don't own any hardware, but this was a great watch. Soft sync seems more squishy/chaotic. It reminds me a smidge of exponential/linear FM (crossmod) when the pitch just starts to be pushed away from the initial keytracking.
I’ve got a grandmother that’s been collecting dust for about a year, I’m primarily a guitarist. Might pick up the patch book to get some inspiration because the bass tone is wonderful. Thanks!
Hi Ethan, can you do a video or a few on how you can perform Edm dawlessly? I composed a lot of songs with my daw logic pro9 but i want to go live now... thank you for your cool videos.
Yes, will you please tell me a few songs you mean, when you say EDM? It's possible to do an entire performance without a computer, but it would take a LOT of equipment, depending on the song.
I need your help understanding the question? What do you mean by chord mode? The synth will play up to 6 different notes at the same time, and you can also tune the oscillators to two or three different notes to get chords
@@marcwalravens2611 I think I see. I may have to make a video explaining all the details, but for unison mode, you would turn up the volume on all three oscillators, and then tune VCO 1 and 2 to different pitches using the frequency knobs. The Sub oscillator would stay on the note you're playing on the keyboard. It's a matter of tuning the two frequency knobs to the chord you want.
is this latch mode tuning also how you would play Rene mk2's pads like a MPC/keyboard? Ive seen people play rene's pads in videos, including the latest module from Make noise Bruxa.. but i can't work out how to do it!!
