The sinking is a situation that's so bad, it's almost funny He's portraying a guy who's traumatized yet hardened by it. As if the unbelievability of it is the only thing allowing him to tell it
I'm going to offer Opie a rare bit of credit here. I don't think he was actually mad. He realized it was funny and let them have at it. He would've "HOLD ON" them to death if he was serious about needing sympathy or wanting to move on.
Jaws was based on a true story of some shark attacks that took place in New Jersey , the only big difference was the shark attacks took place in a fresh water lake, not an ocean.
The other dynamic of his speech is the way he still portrays his dislike for Hooper, he kept saying “Chief” as if the college boy with “city hands” couldn’t understand the plight of a Serviceman almost dying.
Ive been wrestling with a fair and objective examination of this kind of stuff for years. I dont think im atheist but lean more towards the agnostic side... What keeps me on agnostic is that there really are so many wonders in nature that can ONLY be explained by design in how life works... what keeps me questioning religion is the fact that it has always been sold as this being who has every superpower in the world, can do anything, prevent anything, make anything happen, control everything is NEVER responsible for bad things that happen... but gets credited with anything good that happens. Cancer gets cured = glory to him Cancer takes another life = "it was to be" ... but you prayed to him to make it better? .. but he doesn't operate on our time. So.... he will cure people who he deems are worth it? ... we are all his children. It just all sounds like a cult to me. If I were to tell a woman that if she doesn't adore me and only me and live life according to how I tell her and to be faithful to only me, and if she doesn't I will do very bad things to her, then you will view me as a hostage taker/abusive/dangerous/not a good person. But we take some omnipotent all powerful being, and do the same exact thing: we are alive under the belief that if we dont do everything that this absent being wants, we will spend eternity suffering... and somehow THAT is "beautiful". Make it make sense.
I had two immediate thoughts listening to this. 1, wow I didn't know they played GTA 5 together, and 2, we STILL don't have GTA 6 lol. It's crazy to think they were all still together when GTA 5 was the current GTA and in 2024 it still is.
