Welcome to my channel, I Do Cars. Its an answer to the awkward question "So what do you do?". On my channel you'll find videos of the dumb and overzealous car projects I take on personally. You'll also find videos of getting cars running that are either wrecked, or have been sitting for a long time. There will be some how-to repair videos as well because showing people how to fix their vehicle themselves is what I love to do. Of course, you'll find engine teardown videos. Lots, and lots of engine teardown videos. One a week, at least. I own and run an auto salvage operation and part of our model is tearing down bad or core engines and selling the parts. Taking these engines apart is just another day in the office, so I'm happy to bring you along!

As someone in the recycling industry, I say tthat all Subaru's should be taken off the road, and all Subaru drivers lose their licences. They're obviously way to bad of drivers to be on the road. I see more huge Subaru parts boxes than any other manufacturer, and the other close contending manufactures make multiple vehicle lines and had a factory here in the past(GM).
I looked at about a dozen used examples of 2nd Gen Mini Coopers in my local area and they were all in various states of disrepair... except for one...and thankfully the salesperson refused to honor their own sales price, so I got a Mazda instead.
I always see Prius drivers using conventional oil when they have 400k on the ODO. Like Its lubricated yes, but my guy, you do your oil change every 10k and you have severe engine leaks that I have told you to get fixed... On top of that I don't think I can remember a time they don't drive worse than I do or even a time I met a Prius owner who didnt seem to have some screws loose up there. Look these motors are pretty bullet proof but just like everything else, they can only stand so much neglect.
Nearing 80, many engines have delighted my sights, especially after sons acquired magnificent mechanical marvels (automotive and yard equipment). With highly varied emotions we have come up with expressions for various engine experiences. A few are listed here, use then as you might or might not. A few of your expressions now infuse our time with ratchet in hand: Macho rice crispies (head bolts loosening) Last round up (smashed bolt head) Pleasure Defeating (oil pan draining with ‘forbidden’ sparkles) Mesquite Dispersant (well grooved cylinder) Misidentified fluid (oil/coolant mixture) Physics demonstration (added ‘inspection window’) --Much better to laugh than curse the metallic gods who may strike down the next turn of a key.
I BET YOU COULD HAVE PUT SOME FRESH OIL IN THAT DIRECTLY AFTER YOU DRAIN THE OIL OUT THE PAN AND SHE WOULD HAVE STARTED SHE WOULD HAVE SMOKED A LITTLE BIT BUT SHE WOULD HAVE RAN
The moment he said “all blow up all trash this isn’t a rotary or a Subaru” I knew this guy didn’t know his head from his arse this man isn’t a mechanic he’s a parts replacer
I have a 08 titan now I have 330000 miles on it .When mine start to use more oil I no it is time to change the PCV valves. Then goes back to not using any
No issues with my 1.4 in my 2018 Cruze but I don't run it low on oil and only run Mobil 1. Was also a dealer tech for many years including Volkswagen. Neglect is why engines fail most of the time.
I have watched MANY of your videos. With great enjoyment. So many catastrophies. What would be really cool (albeit expensive) would be a teardown of a very high mileage, well maintained engine, that did NOT suffer a catastrophic failure.
These engines are not reliable or good. I currently have this exact truck/engine, and these oil pumps are notorious to go bad right around 100k mi, and as you found out- it's dropping the oil pan and timing cover to get to it which is basically like a 13hr repair by book time. The lifters are junk and basically this engine has burnt oil since new which isn't a lack of maintenance issue, you forget to basically add a qt of oil after every other fill up and this engine will be done for. Very poor and horrible designed paperweight. It will be the last chevy I ever purchase, bunch of poorly built pieces of crap
Judging by your initial investigation of rotation, it has become a new ratchetting engine. The pawl (rod fragment) prevents it turning one way but allows free rotation the other. It could allow for a transmission without a reverse gear, just reorient the pawl (rod fragment) and reverse the engine rotation. That's how engines work, right?
Oh... You're talking about Increased Vertical Chassis Attenuation. No biggie! Put the truck on the lift, and cram some folded over newspaper between the bed and cab to flatten it out. Paint the papers with some rattle can paint so it will be difficult to spot. Throws some sawdust in the trans, and put a tiny disclaimer about towing in the ad. DUCKETS!
After watching so many of your teardowns I am religious about checking levels in my car and keeping up with oil changes and even looking in the pleats of the used oil filter at oil changes. My Hyundai SanteFe Thanks You!
