Back in 2018, I did a road trip I always wanted to and drove to Parkfield up in Monterey County. I stood on that infamous bent Parkfield bridge you pass over before entering the incredibly small settlement of Parkfield. Mid afternoon, I'm alone standing on top of the bridge over the fault in the middle where the compromise joint is, everything quiet except for the crickets and the breeze... I stood there for a few minutes contemplating the enormous power of this monster fault line then thought, you idiot! Do you realize what your standing on top of? _Get_ _in_ _the_ _car!_ _Get_ _in_ _the_ _car!_
Was mindlessly scrolling through RU-vid, this was recommended. Whooa, this is fascinating! Loved how you explained the creek movement with graphics. Regards from Russia
Tulare Lake returns and so is the Aral Sea. Every year there are wildfires in areas that we (man kind) have been "preserving", instead of letting nature take its course and allowing small areas burn when it is time. We eliminated wolves from Yellowstone and it screwed up the ecology big time. We've torn down every beaver dam we come across and have seen the land dry up. Yet when we build dams, those reservoirs dry up. When are we going to learn to live WITH nature and quit trying to control it? I'm afraid that if we don't quit trying to control "Mother Nature" then Mother Nature is going to turn us over her knee and paddle our asses till we can't sit down for a long time.
Good video. Straight to the point. No music or BS. 100% agree with all your selections except for me personally I'd swap Chino for Camarillo. Usually a fair amount of warbirds plus the infamous Flo's for breakfast....where many a pilot has gone to clog their arteries.
Bryan, before I saw your video, I booked a week for instruction (and checkride) out in Moose pass and was curious about your thoughts on the checkride process itself? Anything noteworthy compared to PPL/IFR checkrides?
@@jadeng1147 Moose Pass is such a great place to get your seaplane rating. So many lakes in close proximity, all with different characteristics. Not to mention that it’s drop dead beautiful there. Have fun!
I often see pilots flying in, parking for days and not doing a complete preflight before leaving. It does not take much time to check the actual fuel quantity with a stick and doing a fuel quality check with a sample. Check the fuel for color, smell, and particles.
Nice vid. Flown a lot in So Cal including Inyokern, Lone Pine, Bishop and Mammoth but never been into Kern Valley. Cool approach and airport. Camping would be fantastic. Love the scene of you sitting peacefully in your camp chair. And yes don't forget the beer !!
I have flown here in 1991 at the same altitude. What truck me is that all city’s are so blocked. Also the Tera is sand brown with some patches of green. It was not appealing at all. Didn’t like the view at all. Was this the big famous city of the west usa? After some days spend on the ground we disappeared eastwards over the big mountain ridges to find Sedona and later texas state. More green more nicer Tera. But noting beats the EU .. best regards form Amsterdam
My black lab went for a ride with me, in a car she is happy looks out window etc, in the plane was fine till rotation the she laid in the seat SPLAT, would not get up till engine shut off.
Great choice! 10,000 feet seems like the perfect perspective for viewing the beautiful California landscape. Despite encountering some social problems during my six months of travel throughout the state, I must say that California is by far the most stunning place on Earth. As a Brazilian, I truly understand what a beautiful landmark is.
Obrigado Bruno! The cities have had their challenges for sure but things have certainly improved since COVID and it's nothing like the doomsday scenario that California-haters like to portray.
It's a new business opportunity: Film medium altitude aerial footage of the cities, before everything completely collapses, and save the footage on durable storage media sold to survivors (who live in areas more likely to survive the synthetic nano-parasite SNP/NanoSinp crisis).
