It is amazing that someone so muscular can maintain that much power output and such a high stroke rating for so long. Typically someone with that much muscle would become momentarily incapacitated from the extreme amount of lactic acid coursing through their body. Keeping splits under 120 for 3 250 splits is so impressive. I think he could beat his own record if he wanted to.

Do you ever bolt them machines down? I’ve been getting back in shape after finding out that I used to row at record setting paces. I’m not as small as I used to be. When I start getting near a 1:20/500m pace the machines start walking and jumping all over the place.

@2famous4u11
@2famous4u11 4 месяца назад
hey bro, i like to accelarate the rower with 3 fast rows at the start and only after that starting im starting to pull at steady pace. What do you thnik about this techinque, have you ever tried it and if yes why not use it? Does it burn you out too much in the start or is it only preference.
@squealer42
@squealer42 5 месяцев назад
Take it from a math nerd with nary half your productive capacity, aided by the power of annoying hindsight. At that ferocious pace, a single split change is roughly 25 watts difference. If trying to cruise at a given split, say 1:19, you really only know your actual power output to within that margin ~ 3%. That's huge relative to how taxing on the body at a sustained red-line. With "perfect splits", your same work distributed evenly effectively could have gained about 2 watts, for a whopping 0.2 second better score! Even better if a slower start enables faster finish. If you've ever the notion to train like hell again and go for 2:40.0 like your kick-ass RowErg score, I'm thinking strategy =. crank it up to 700 watts the first interval, then back 'er down to 685 and hold. I imagine from pull to pull you could easily stay within 10 watts with the same mental effort as trying to hold a split. Either way, you know right away "ok, the machine sees 5 more watts than last one" - that's so much more granular than seconds.

@jimjamthebananaman1
@jimjamthebananaman1 3 месяца назад
No chance. Being good on an erg is just down to high strength. On a boat you are shifting both your weight and the boat which he would most certainly struggle with. The same applies with people cycling on a turbo trainer that are very big and strong; outside they can’t sustain the power because they’re too heavy and tired out rapidly.

I just wonder if James would have gotten even better results if he had set up a pace boat with a 1m19.6s 500M pace, started a little bit faster with barely a lead, but only picking up the pace at the very end. For mere mortals, at least you could tell how realistic your efforts are.
