This taught me so much I just bought a rod and I’ve been running the basic worm and hook simply because I had no idea what any of these other lures even did hopefully next time I go out I can actually hook one and also buy some lures that’ll work with the fish in my area
They will fly in from other areas as well but you can make a localized dent in their populations by causing them to waste their eggs in your container. There are fewer mosquitoes than there would be otherwise.
Back in the 50s and 60s we would vacation in Little Current Ontario, my dad like to troll for Pike in the North Channel, back then it was lamphery marks that were the bane of pike, I remember the thrill of catching one even at the age of 7 or 8
Your knot tutorial videos I watch the most but this video and, "The Life of the Northern Pike" are definitely my favorites. Would love to see more species specific videos like this. I think the Pike video was actually my introduction to your channel as my favorite part of fishing is how much can be learned about these interesting animals. Thanks for the great videos!
Does the water need to be warm/hot?( a temp measurement would help). The reason I ask is because I just watched a video where the presenter soaked his entire spool (not on reel yet) for a week in a bucket of water. What do you think?
In my opinion, yes. It's the temperature of the water that softens the line and allows it to reset its memory. Soaking it for a week is assuming that it's absorbing water that whole time and that's helping to reset the memory, but I find the temperature to be much more important. Also, while monofilament line does absorb some water over time, fluorocarbon does not.
Looking to get two rods, one 50-75$ and one 100-125$. Any suggestions. I mainly fish saltwater and I want to be able to fish with bait and lures. Want to be able to hold atleast 20-80lb braid.
Honestly, there are a ton of good rods out there. I have 31 fishing rods and considering weight, performance, and price, the Ugly Stik Carbon rods are my favorites. They're about $80 each. The 7' MH carbon is what I use with 30lb braid - I have that model in a casting rod and a spinning rod. I don't have any affiliation with Ugly Stik. I just really like their Carbon rods. I don't do any saltwater fishing so I can't recommend a good one for your 80lb setup.
@@FishingwithNat alright I’ll check out that rod and see if it’ll work out for me. I mainly just want to have 80lb on a rod just incase it’s a big fish but I doubt I’ll ever need that much. I think the max lb line I need for now is 30lb to 50lbs maybe. Thinking of getting a Nasci, Sedona, or some kind of daiwa reel. I’ve heard Penns are pretty reliable though so might look into them.
@@FishingwithNat also whenever a rod says the lure weight is 1 and a half ounce for example. Does that mean that’s the max weight I can use for a sinker as well?
@@goop2861 Yes, it's the rating for your entire rig, whether that's a single lure or a hook/swivel/sinker/bait combo. You can safely exceed that rating by a bit, but it's the rod manufacturer's way of saying "don't blame us if you exceed this weight and something bad happens".
I've recently started fishing weekly with my friends, I binged your videos and I've been catching more than my other friends which is making them jealous. Thanks for your help with everything, appreciate how direct your videos are, unlike most that are trying to catch that monetization by drawing stuff out super hard.
Thanks for the feedback. I don't like to waste my time or yours on long videos full of fluff! Glad I could help you catch more fish than your friends! 😀
When I was younger I use to catch an occasional bass or trout but now that I’m a little older and actually want to enjoy fishing I can’t catch a damn thing yesterday I was out there for 4 hours in a trout heavy area I think I need a trip to bass pro
Hadn’t been fishing since I was a kid with my dad. Forgot most of everything. Now I’m taking my boys out and this is the best channel I’ve found for reminding me about the knowledge I lost.
Probably one of the best fishing videos I’ve seen. No filler, no extended monologues about things that people of this skill level aren’t going to understand anyway
I do exactly that, bun I take reel magic and spray on line when I have half of the line out, then I reel about half the line in and spray it again, then when I get all the way up spray it again,so now u have the line sprayed down into the spool.go sling a bait into the water, couple cast put it on the deck of boat and ure ready tago.
Could you catch more fish without snaps? Maybe Are you still gonna catch fish with a snap? Yes Does a fish look at the snap and think to itself: "Wow this pink fish that makes noise and has never been here before has a nose ring, I'm definitely not gonna bite him"? I've yet to see one make that complex thought process. Honestly though, I've caught fish on gummy bears, bread, and so many other weird things i don't think it matters to much if a snap is used.
swivels are one of those tackle items that are all personal preference, if you like it, use it, and vice versa, i like using them when i’m switching out lures a lot, but most of the time i don’t mind tying a knot or two
On the water we’d take everything off the line and troll just the line behind the boat for a few minutes, then reel it in while still moving. Always works
Thanks for the comment. That works well for line twist. This technique is for removing the line coils which form from the line being wrapped around the spool for a long time. This happens regardless of whether the line has twists in it.
Just wanted to say I absolutely love your channel and you are my go-to for all things fishing. Your videos are to-the-point and packed with so much good information - I'm an absolute beginner and you've taught me everything I now know about fishing. God bless you and your family!
I will try this... What I do now is cut off the lure , open the bail , let all the mono out into the lake (boat) , keep the tip under water , THEN , reel it back in with the rod tip under water pointing straight with the line .. I despise line twist!
