As a sole ' Image ' taker I think the Z8 would be overkill for me. Not interested in video. ZF has the same processor so image wise probably wouldnt notice a difference. Prefer also the ZF overall design. Nice vid 👌
@@silverstone6644 If you are photo only Nikon is the way to go. Way better photographic legacy, better color science and better overall lens catalogue if you include F mount. Nikon camera bodies are much better built than Sony as well. I used to own Sony cameras but I'm much happier in the Nikon universe.
If I want to get the Nikon 28-400mm, is it too big for everyday use on a Zf? Do people use the dedicated shutter and ISO dials on the Zf or just get it for the look and end up just use the front and rear dials more which means the Z6III will make more sense with the better grip and even better EVF even let say you just want to use a small lens on it? Also what camera and lenses you carry or you just use phone while travel and everyday hangout and situations? Does using a Z6 with shutter speed and ISO on the front and back dials plus aperture ring on lens provide similar or better or worse experience than these dedicated dials on top of Zf without the need to get Zf for the look hence Sony A7R V which has a prism VF and flat top design hich looks just like a Zf but modern look with bigger grip? I shoot for fun, art, contest and gig if possible tho I haven't done yet, my plan is to get that lens with Zf ith the 28-400mm and a Sony Xperia 1 VI phone (26,24,48,85-170, 2X macro) to be always with me waterproof and macro camera, down the line I might get the 14-30 and Voigtländer 50mm F1 if I want to maximize what I can get from wider shots and also when I need boleh which is rare time but that manual lens and aesthetic of the lens is nice! And I love Yellow colour, hope Nikon will make a Yellow colour Zf like they did with the new colour entries on the Zf! 💛
Only you can say if the ZF combo is too big for you and only can know if you would rather have the ZF and the z63. Best thing you should do is go to a camera store and hold them in your hands and decide for yourself.
I know you have sold the Nikon ZF now but I wanted to ask about your experience shooting video with it? Were you able to back up 4k 60fps footage on it to the micro sd? Also how did you find it not having a thumb toggle for focusing?
Hi, thanks for the question. The video looks nice coming out of the ZF and Rich Portrait is one of the better straight of camera profiles that Ive seen. Micro SD if it's fast will backup video but I don't recall the limitations off my head. For touch focusing, the screen actually works really well. My problem with the ZF for video is the micro HDMI port so you can't do anything serious. Also, I didn't like having a crop in 4k 60. But the video image and the video AF are great.
@@hidemaxwell I am thinking of getting it as a second body for shooting weddings so would want to use the micro sd as a back up...will probably get one though I think...looks like a powerful camera
@@offshoresphoto as a B cam it would be great. Like if you put it on a tripod for ceremony shots and then tap on the brides face to lock focus and then leave it- that use case is fine. As for microsd I believe they make fast enough cards but not totally sure.
I currently have the Nikon Z8 and Z9, as well as the ZF, and I have to tell you, the camera I use the most is the ZF. I sold my Z7 II to purchase the ZF. The First SLR that I owned back in the early 80's was a Nikon FM, unfortunately, at that time, I didn't know too much about photography, but I do remember that the camera took excellent pictures for a film camera. With the ZF, I feel I've learned a lot more from it as far as using the various Camera settings, as well as histograms, and how to properly use filters and other functions than I have from the Z8 and Z9. With the ZF, I feel it gets the Photographer more involved with composing a picture, as well as getting users to switch to "Manual" Mode more often than relying on the other program modes. Of course this is only my opinion, and I would imagine, others would see things different, but to make a long story short, even with all it's limitations, the ZF is a very fun Camera, although I would have a hard time recommending it for Professional use. As a travel Camera, it's hands down one of the better cameras to use.
I think fuji speaks to people through it's film sims and the Nikon ZF speaks to people like you and me who have owned all metal film SLRs like the FM2 and in my case the F3. God I loved that F3, and the ZF makes me feel a similar way.
If you want to shoot raw video or if you want 4k120fps or 8k then the Z8 will make sense otherwise Z8 is pretty much useless for regular folks who just want to shoot photos and 1080p 10bit video. I had a Z6 then i bought a Z8 because i wanted to experience the RAW video thing and guess what, i love it. I love everything about the Z8. Zf is also a great camera but for 1080p video. The autofocus and image quality is great on the Zf as well.
@@hidemaxwell its not overkill. Its actually a godsend gift for people who love to explore film making and color grading. Nikon Z8 is the perfect tool. No need of an external recorder, shoots raw video, has full frame 4k video. Excellent low light performance, decent dynamic range, superb colours. For professionals who will only shoot 10bit 4k or 1080p of course its overkill for them but for people who need something that can take them into the world of color grading then Z8 is their best bet.
I really like hearing photographers who are passionate. I shoot for work but haven't had passion in a while. Thanks for sharing how it was emotional to sell the Zf
Yeah, I never thought that a Z8 was in my budget, I lucked out on a pretty cheap one and these days people are selling used around 3000. At this point it doesnt make sense to buy a z6iii when you can get a Z8.
So get it, and use it more to make that money back. Market 8k raw as part of your services. Market high speed photos as part of your services, or just use the camera specs to amazing results and then command a higher price. Just tell them your price and don't budge. You'll lose clients and that's a good thing, you don't want to deal with people that don't value your work. They'll make you miserable in a thousand little ways to waste you're time, ask you to accept less money, make you work harder than you should, etc. Big budget clients are far easier and less stressful to work for.
My ZF is fantastic moreover I found the lenses that are enjoyable and produce awesome results such as Nikon z 135 mm 1.8 Plena, Voigtlander 58mm 1.4, Nikon z 26mm 2.8 and Voigtlander 40mm 1.2
Now he’s a father and a partner in a “normal” relationship. I’m proud of what he’s done in the industry and in his general life. An icon but also a great human.
TBH I made this video a while back and smart phone tech has really improved since then. The 1 inch sensor in these RX cameras aren’t much better than the latest phones. The only point and shoots I’d consider are the Ricoh GR, the Leica Q or the Fuji x100v.
Man thats some of the realest thing said, Started Off in the swinging lifestyle and used that experience as a training ground and then onto in front of the cameras 🐒🐉🙏
Thanks for the interesting video. I recently purchased an RX100VA for around 500€ and am quite impressed with the camera. At least the raw images taken at base ISO and edited in Adobe Camera RAW / Photoshop are great (don't like the out of cam jpegs). I plan to use it as my everyday walkaround camera on sunny days (when my A7rIV and A9 are too heavy) and think it's going to be great for that purpose. The raw image quality is clearly superior to pictures take with my OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone and that's what I got it for.
Thanks. Very informative. What do you think about zv1? Everything seems similar to to rx100 but is it really? How about bokeh? If I wanna choose between the two which one better as the end of 2020?I only wanna use the camera for making music video clips for social media
Ive never used the zv1 but it has a similar sensor to the latest rx100 camera. I think the zv1 is more geared toward video though. I think it seems pretty good, just depends on what exactly you are going for. ZV1 id good for shooting in public and carrying a tiny camera with decent quality.
I already own an a7sII and don't wanna replace it. Just want an RX100V because I need a 4K B-cam and it's just great. Also I shoot landscapes often so 24-70 equiv and a sensor that allows for raw photos at a max of 400 ISO and clean 20MP, that's all I need for landscapes.
