Welcome, I’m Dan Warner and I’ve been a working actor in film and television for 20+ years with 80+ IMDb credits and 100+ national commercials. My goal is to share everything I've learned as an actor over the course of my career to help YOU jumpstart yours.
Most actors are stuck having to go through a long process of trial and error to discover the information I share here. Too many actors get bad information from people who don’t have enough experience in the industry and are giving out the wrong advice. They find themselves wasting time and money instead of taking productive steps to move their careers forward. I’m here to make sure that doesn't happen to you.
Whether you are new to acting or a seasoned actor but are feeling stuck and want to improve your skills and expand your knowledge to take your career to the next level, I can help you do just that.
Wow i have learned a lot from your videos on here. You teach classes right? I think im gonna go through you. You definitely know what youre talking about.
Thanks so much. Yes, I do have a program. Message me on Instagram and I'll send you all the details and we can do a quick coaching session. @ActingCareerExpert
Yo man im taking classes, its on zoom. It is hard to get out of my bubble. Its hard to do this in front of so many people. How do you get over this? I know i just gotta eventually however this is nerve wracking like nothing else.
I usually frame chest high. You don't want to crop in too close, and you don't need an extreme close up to get your point across. We all tend to do too much no matter how close the camera is. Hope that helps.
Wow, really great acting and teaching! Even your eyes seemed to get bloodshot! I just got cast in an indie film as a VERY drunk woman in a bar. I notice women get really loud and cackle as they get more drunk. Alcohol first acts as a stimulant then as a depressant, so, initially folks shout or sing. Then it can turn into a fight. Then they pass out. One of my favs is Drunk Uncle by Bobby Moynihan on Saturday Night Live.
This is GREAT! I HAVE NEVER done a casting before, Lol! I am late in age but decided to just jump right in and enjoy the rest of my life doing what I always wanted to do but never did, acting. Not sure how I will do but I'm glad, no, VERY GLAD I saw this video. I am clearly clueless how a casting zoom call works. Wish me luck! 😊
It's never too late to follow your dreams! Embrace the journey and enjoy every moment of it. Good luck with your casting call! Let me know how it went!
That is so interesting because I would’ve done it your way the way you did it so I got it now eyebrows up when you’re confused, but it does make sense that the eyebrows go down when you’re angry. Thanks so much.
Thank goodness! LOLOL 66, but it's fun to watch some breakdowns wanting grandmother's between 30-45. Of course it possible, but those ages can't be the Grandma to a 16yo, which is often the age of the grandchild...smh
Here wat you do you get the director schedule follow em home have one the homies slide by talk to em real casually like n bam you got the spot 🎉 celebrate good times come on
Hey John, First off, I want to commend you for being open about your journey. Here’s the thing-casting directors and audiences are craving authenticity now more than ever. They want to see real people with real stories, not cookie-cutter perfection. Your Bell’s palsy isn’t a barrier; it’s part of your unique story. Just look at RJ Mitte, who played Walter Jr. on *Breaking Bad*. He has cerebral palsy, and it didn’t stop him-it made his portrayal even more impactful because it was authentic. Your right eyebrow not moving isn’t a flaw; it’s a feature that adds to your character, making you stand out in a way no one else can. The industry needs all kinds of actors, especially those who bring genuine experiences and challenges to their roles. Your journey can inspire others and bring a level of truth to your performances that no one else can replicate. So keep pushing forward! Your authenticity is your superpower, and trust me, there’s a place in this industry that’s just waiting for someone like you. Keep at it, and never doubt your worth or your potential!
When they ask for a full body shot. Do you have to show even your shoes. only ask because the camera has to be further away and makes the picture or video look far.
@ActingCareerExpert Thank you very much for replying. It's one of the things that's a bit annoying but I guess if you want the job you must follow their instructions. Thanks.. again.
This simple instruction may give you an edge over many who don’t want to follow the instructions. You can’t rely on your imagination of thinking you got the “It”.
Thanks so much! For self-tapes, you don’t need a crazy setup-just a decent camera. Most camera's today are good enough. I would actually use your phone. If you're just practicing that's all you need. I do all my self tapes on my iphone. Keep practicing!
It’s like trying to beat the house odds. Learn to count cards, to get a better chance at betting against the house😮 Like the man said, practice your auditions if you want to play at the table🙂
Hello Dan Warner, I know there are a lot of agency studios out there what is the best or a few studios that I can audition to do a self tape my friend?!
I don't use those and have been told that casting doesn't really like overproduced self-tapes. I do think the production value should be good, but I feel like a lot of actors overthink this. If you really want to use one, I'd just google one in your area. Hope that helps :)
I am not even into acting but he made me realise my mistake that I had been looking mad for more than 10 years. The mad expression is my habitual expression every waking hour. Maybe that's why people stay way from me in public places and everywhere. Fuck, I wasted years unknown about it. Thank your sir.
@@simonstuhl4170 😆🤣🤣🤣 It totally relates! Yes! I bought this in Costa Rica 2 years ago. No real rhyme or reason I just love, monkeys, surfboards, and motorcycles.
@@ActingCareerExpert 😂ha ha, “a man and his monkey”!😂 One of my favorite shows, Corner Gas, Oscar wants to ride in the cab of big rig. The truck driver says, “only clients ride in the cab, friend.” Oscar says, “So, you’re saying Clint Eastwood worked for a monkey?” Those guys are such Canadians:)
Hi, I kinda need Help With smt… So, the most movie productions is in the usa and over there, But i live in Europe, i just wish i was a little older so I could start with acting right away and travel all around for those productions, But By living in Europe, especially Where I live, they dont make many movies or series, (its like 1-2 productions a year) So its not easy living the dream, especially when your my age AND your parents are boring and has boring jobs which doesn’t get me anywhere… (0-15 years) So I just wondered if u had some tips? (I live in Nothern Europe)
I would suggest to continue to study and take acting classes and do any local theater and audition for student films and short films. That will give you a good base to start from! I hope that helps. Keep me posted on your progress.
