Martina didn't actually win a single tournament in 1987 until Wimbledon in July. This match part of a pattern of Martina losing from a winning position, that emerged from 1987 onwards. She'd always been notorious for choking in her early years, but seemed to have cured it in her prime before it started to re-emerge. She said many years later that with hindsight, she was burned out from the end of 1986 until mid 1989. The other matches she lost when ahead during this period were: *1987 Eastbourne - lost to Sukova in two sets after losing a 5-0 (!) lead in the first set. * 1988 Wimbledon final, up a set and 2-0 to Graf *1988 Tour finals - lost to Sukova after being up 6-2 and twice up a break in the second set. *1989 Australian Open - lost to Sukova after serving for the match twice. *1989 US Open - lost to Graf after being up a set and a break. She also very nearly lost to Monica Seles at the tour finals in 1989 after being up 6-3, 5-1 befire finally squeaking through 7-5 in the final set.
They are a match that made from heaven! I am a fan of them both and am so happy that they married and raise their own family with 2 beautiful children! Andre, you are one of a few lucky man in this universe!❤❤
Andrew is right! He is lucky to marry Graf! A lady with full package! They will happily married forever till the end! No doubt about it!Ưhen he gave a speech about her, tears in his eyes! Tears of a grateful heart and happy! Same with Graf, listening to his speech about her, his wife, she wiped off tears! This is how you see a marriage should be! There are mutual respect and admire each other! That is the key ingredients of endless love and happiness! They are my all time favorite tennis pro! May God bless them and their family and keep them safe always! ❤❤❤❤
As much respect as I have for all the greats that commented on Agassi's revelations in his book, they obviously don't understand the kind of life and struggles he's had. Which...I don't know, it's kind of sad. Makes me think, must be nice for them to all be so perfect that they can't relate to those kinds of struggles.
Remember watching this commercial on tennis channel around 2007-2008. To think all those kids are grown adults now is crazy. That commercial always reminds me of Federer too. Will never get over his retirement because it wasn’t like other athletes. He never got his farewell tour, he never got to go out on his terms and that will always haunt him no matter what he says.
Steffi playing along the blood thirsty crowd. Sorry. This doesn't get off the ground. She was around 19 wasn't she. It was a nightmare to watch. Something I can watch one time only. Can you watch it twice, or more? You know who you are. I know what I am.
Seles' screaming with every shot was very annoying, and very unusual at the time, many players (including Navratilova) complained it distracted them). Nevertheless, she was the only one who could have surpassed Graf, but the attack she suffered in 1993 made it impossible to tell which one would have prevailed on the long run.
Peak Steffi always was better than peak Seles. Never forget that 1991/92 (Seles‘s two great years) were only Steffi’s 11th-best and 9th-best full seasons (of 14) regarding the match winning percentages. No wonder Seles had so much success then.
Graf was just such an amazing champion. I still miss seeing her play. It’s just not the same after she retired. I’m so happy that she’s found personal happiness with Andre and her kids Thank you Steffi for all your years of dedication to tennis It was a pleasure to see you play ❤
So happy for them. I admired, respected and wanted to be like them growing up...as a tennis player and as a human being..they have never disappointed me!
Thanks, I got into an argument with a hater on RU-vid. In my mind, Graf is the best player on all surfaces. She didn't have a weak surface. Martina and Serena were vulnerable on clay and Evert on grass. Yes these three had success on these surfaces but you always felt they had vulnerabilities. With Graf, you didn't have these doubts. Grafs last victory at the French sealed the deal for me. Graf had the steadiness and patience for clay and the power and athleticism for grass. These haters are very black and white in their thinking. He/She had a post dedicated to why Graf is not the GOAT, listing all of these misleading stats. I don't have disparage Graf's rivals. I can applaud the talents of Martina, Serena, Evert, and Seles even though Graf is my favorite.
Steffi really a beautiful woman and miss her... woman's tennis never been the same. Rivalries in woman's game gone, back then woman's tennis was like watching a soapy!! Steffi Graf the GOAT!!
c'était juste énorme qu'il remonte de deux sets zero totalement tétanisé ! j'en ai pleuré a l'époque ! je ne suis pas étonné que ces deux légendes soient tombés dans les bras l'un de l'autre ensuite !
