My interpretation of it is that it's basically saying it's better to check in with your friends "at the risk of feeling dumb" because you went out of your way to check in with them and they were fine than to not do so and end up losing someone.
I always interpreted this song as finding yourself falling back into old habits you thought you "kicked" and in this context snapping back isnt meant to be going back to your former self but snapping back to the you that has overcome your struggles
You asked [& I'm paraphrasing] "What does that mean, 'you're a terrible sight but you'll do fine'?" MY interpretation: when you run into someone that you're fond of, you say, "You're a sight for sore eyes," but the truth is your fkn eyes hurt, seeing things is only making it worse, so they're actually a really terrible sight but their presence is special for your soul, so you tell them, "My eyes are sore, they'd prob be best serving me shut atm, but it's good to know you're here & you've got my back, & we tell each other the truth, so you should know, you're honestly a terrible sight."
It's interesting to see different reactions to this song, because someone else said from the first line (about everyone you thought you had deserting you) that it happened to him where he was going through rough times, tried to reach out to family and friends for help and they basically ghosted him. He had to pull himself through his troubled times and is his own support. Keeping your blood with you, meant that he didn't further hurt himself, to come out on top. If you've been through shit and had nobody there for you, you might see the song that way, with the "brother" being himself, supporting himself. If you've had support, you might interpret the song as your blood/family/friends being there with you in hard times.
Watching all of the tøp reactions after discovering your channel, i have to say this is my absolute favourite song from them. Also the scaled and icy album is very different but imo it’s very good too. Your reactions are 🔥
My top of this album at this time in my life is 1.A car, a torch, a death (i normally dont listen this one often but now im feeling it so deep) 2.Isle Of Flightless Birds 3.Trapdoor wich is for me air catcher sibling 4.The Pantaloon 5. Fall Away
Man, I'd love to see you react to a live version of this at like one of the festivals. He has scaled many scaffolds during this song live and it never gets old.
I lovelovelove this song so much, but it's TOP, so of course it's perfection! According to Genius, Tyler wrote this song as being from the perspective of his younger self, talking to his current self. His younger self is terrified of the future ("You know you're a terrible sight"), but he still has faith that he'll make it in the end, as long as he has people he loves with him, and doesn't let what people say about him change who he is...
I just finished watching all your videos on Clancy and loved your reactions and personality, I HAD to find your reaction to redecorate. Redecorate is my favorite song TOP has ever released, I’ve seen other comments explaining what it means so I won’t get into it, but it just speaks to me no other song ever has. I’ve never been in the position where im contemplating unaliving myself, but I’ve been on the other end, where I’ve talked a few people down from the ledge before. This song has helped put into words how I feel and also shown me what the other person might be thinking and feeling, it’s just so beautiful. It’s just so unfortunate that it comes at the end of scaled and icy. A lot of people won’t give this song a fair chance because of the albums mixed reviews. I’m glad you enjoyed this song, it’s a big one.
I'm sad to say that but honest to confirm we're a bunch of clikkies STILL ALIVE here, thanks to TOP! That song is something else and saved me 11 years ago and i will never be thankful enough to them for that! ❤🎉
The car is a metaphor for his life. He began to envy other peoples lives and wanted to crack the door and fall out (suicide) but God buckled his heart in the back seat for him. A girl killed herself when he was out of sight. The demon told him what he had planned and he said he'd take the grave if the demon spared people thinking of suicide...imho.
This is a masterful way and message to me for the truth I interpret it to be: We will win, but not every ONE will get out. You can win the battles and that is all you can do. There is never a true “spoils of war” victory for those that struggle with their mental health. Nico (the mental struggle) always wants us back and there are times we go back eagerly (across the Paladin Strait).
Anger/Rage issues.... been under wraps for 20 + years, but man..... some days it's tough. Not even for any particular reason. Those demons never go away. Some days, frightened that all that progress and positive things gained will go away... And that's not even getting into depression, for me. Crying, mad at myself, mad at others, then trying to get my self back to where I need to be, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I really appreciate Twenty One Pilots because he delves into mental illness in a way that reminds me of what I need to avoid.
