Legend is one of the most underrated songs in trench. It’s about Tyler’s grandpa who meant a lot to him and was actually on the album cover for Vessel. He ended up dying to Alzheimer’s and this song is basically dedicated to him. My favorite line off of this song is “I’m sorry I did not visit, did not know how to take it, when your eyes did not know me, like I know you”. I can’t even imagine seeing any of my loved ones sick, and looking at me like I’m a stranger. It must’ve been so painful and confusing for Tyler and I think it’s beautiful how he put his emotions into this song.
Also he recorded the last part after his grandad passed away and it is such a honorable dedicatory❤ "In the day that it happened, i recorded this last bit. I look forward to having a lunch with you again." They used to have a lot of lunches together and spent time like that.

And I’m talking about my wife, because when she started coming around, he’d taken a turn for the worse. He used to be so witty and would light up a room ... but by the time she came around, he was going downhill fast. He was unpredictable, didn’t remember people’s names, which was a new type of pain.” “My dad told me one moment towards the end - where he did remember my name - and he asked ‘What’s Tyler doing?’. He’d always ask and my dad would try to explain: ‘He’s in a band, he plays music’. And he was like: ‘Well, I wanna hear a song’. And this was before I’d written anything for ‘Trench’. My dad’s driving the car and he keeps badgering him, ‘Well, I wanna hear a song!’. And my dad didn’t have any of our music in the car. Out of pure desperation, he turns on the radio and flicks the dial a few times and one of our songs is on and he was able to say: ‘There - there he is and this is his song”. “And so, in a weird way, you can think about all the success and mainstream recognition we’ve had was all just to fulfil some tiny little story where my dad was able to show my grandpa the actual song that I wrote in that moment on the radio.''
Like others have said, it's a farewell song to Tyler's grandpa. His name was Robert, which is tyler & his oldest daughter Rosies's middle name. Beautiful song ❤

Yes, this is about Tyler's grandpa who passed away while he was recording Trench. This song isn't bad but it's a song that touches a sensitive subject for many including me and I wouldn't listen to it daily. You only have Leave the city to react to. It's a beautiful song dedicated to the banditos, to us. The song contains a lot of dema lore as well. You will love the instrumentals on that one as well like I do. Can't wait! We are so close to Scaled and Icy!!!!!
