The Guide is taking listeners on tours of Golarion; his knowledge of its landmarks and history seeks to engender immersion into a fantastical, vibrant world. You are most welcome to join him on this journey as it unfolds.
A new aural experience is made available once a week. Currently, these are set on the Darkmoon Plain in Andoran, journeying northwards towards the Five Kings Mountains.
If you would like to be notified of new tours, the best method is to subscribe to this channel. At present, the Guide can only be found on RU-vid, Discord, Patreon, and Reddit, and is not asking for any form of financial support. However, donations are accepted through Patreon.
Excellent presentation of your content. Choice of background music, art, your voice style, enunciation, clarity of your audio. Very professional. I prefer your lore presentations above all the other channels that I subscribe to. Eagerly awaiting your next video.
The Mwangi Expanse has a trade-tongue called Polyglot (or sometimes just "Mwangi"). It is a fusion of dozens of the dialects and local languages of the people who live there. It did not make the list because of its unique status as a trading language not typically used outside a commercial context. Well worth considering though for a budding Mwangi trader!
Two fun facts I discovered whilst researching this one: 1. Kelish (the language) has nothing to do with the Kellids (the people). Despite the similar spellings and pronunciations, the two are unrelated. 2. Osiriani is also officially considered an uncommon language, but in this instance I disagree. It is the most widely spoken language in Garund, doubtless preferred by many in the southern Inner Sea to Taldane, and must have at least as many speakers as, say, Halfling. I think GMs wouldn’t go astray by making it Common.
Many thanks and beautifully done if I may say so. So often Lore is overlooked and as a player it helps to have some background in which to flesh out a character. I would love to know what software you're using.
I love how you described Newspapers as if they're as likely to be novel to an audience who may or may not be familiar with Pathfinder as you described Leshy in the Ivy District episode.
I found it from this Reddit thread, friend! <www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder_RPG/comments/cmz9n1/giant_map_of_golarion/> Credit goes to the cartographer Rob McCaleb.
Thank you! Will you ever make a video on the human/local languages: Hallit, Skald and Varisian? I'm playing a character from Brevoy (Kingmaker adventure) and I chose Hallit as a language he knows, as that seemed like a reasonable guess. But where are these "local" languages spoken daily and where can they sometimes be understood?
More language videos are on their way! There are a lot of human languages, many extremely niche, but I’ll try to cover as many as I can. Regarding your character, I think Hallit is the best choice there. In a nutshell, Hallit is a Kellid language most likely (of those three) to be found in Brevoy. Skald is mostly spoken in the far north-west Lands of the Linnorm Kings, and despite being a human language, actually uses Dwarven (i.e. Petran) runes in writing. Varisian is mostly relegated to Varisia far west of Brevoy across the Mindspin Mountains. Hope that’s useful!
With the Remaster Drow were retconned to be a rumor to cover up a greater threat and not actual exist so I found it very amusing the guide bringing them up. As if perfectly reasonable for people in universe to believe they exist.
Indeed, I think the drow were hit hardest by the Remaster changes. They call into question entire APs like Second Darkness. From a lore perspective, it is a bit bemusing, if understandable.
The Lore Tour is back! Real life should always come first for a RU-vidr, and mine has been exceptionally chaotic over the past few months. New apartment, new job, family - the whole thing. But now we have reached a new period of stability, and videos will be regularly appearing once more. Thank you for your patience! By the way - if you want to chat with me and others in the community more regularly, remember to check out our Discord! discord.gg/3HQsQJkE
I second this. I really.like your channel but real life.should be more important. I for one will continue to watch your videos regardless of any delais they are just to excellent to miss
I absolutely love your videos but i have one slight criticism. The thematic background noise can be somewhat loud at times. Maybe it is just me being easily distracted.
Tomorrow night our Bloodcovian Fighter, 'Snake', is scheduled for a match against a contending Hobgoblin in the earthen pit at the Crimson Coin. Place your bets!
Just subbed. Liked the video style, and will check out more in the future. Recently started a first Pathfinder campaign, finding the lore pretty interesting.
From my own game, there is a goblin community living on a part of the flotsam graveyard that has a dock on the sea side of it for fishing. The only reason they haven’t been chased out is because they are strengthening the defense by linking up the wrecked vessels with rope and timber bridges. For a handful of coins, they’ll let a smuggler use the seaside dock and unload cargo to carry across to the harbor side where it is loaded onto catamaran barges that then row in to another dock in the puddles. The only reason the Spitside docks are ignored in the puddles is because in addition to building up dry islands in the flooded portion of the city, they catch tons of fish for sale every day. The “governor” of the Spitside docks and the Seawall is a 5th level goblin Druid, who uses his wild shape abilities to convince the other goblins that he is a fifth hero-god, come to teach them how to fish, farm and make new lands where others have abandoned. They “build” new lands by erecting a sea wall around salvageable buildings and filling in the wall with garbage, and stone from unstable buildings. Spitside is the largest at 160’ by 80’, where the docks and the market are located. Apple Island is 100’ by 60’ and unique because of the apple trees growing over every bit of it. The Pig Islands vary in size from the biggest at 60’ by 30’ to the smallest at 20’ by 10’ and the pig farms on those islands all raise pigs that descend from a pair of pigs they found on a ship in the flotsam graveyard.
