I have the 1.4 multiair 101HP, manual with 247300 miles, still runs extremly smooth, all it needed so far was a clutch ones, timing belt ones and front break pads
Excellent review and history summary. I can't agree on the looks though - I just think there is something so wrong about the front side lights and also the rear lights. I do completely agree the Turbo RT is the one to have though. I would be interested on your view of the ride quality of the Seraph compared to the Shadow and Spirit/Spur. Given a Royce is for wafting along, that matters more than road holding or handling. Especially given the quality of our British roads.
Thanks for the kind words! I’ll see if I can pull some strings and get a few more Crewe cars on soon. I think the seraph appeals to me as from a driving standpoint it somewhat bridges the Bentley/ Rolls Royce gap. I’d like to spend some time with a DHC of some description though, I think I’d be more partial to the Rolls Royce experience with the wind blowing through my hair!
@@carsandcustard I can understand that. More modern cars are going to be better driving cars than those from older generations (though not really modern cars, which I now think are going backwards in terms of driver enjoyment). Whether they can waft like a Royce or Bentley of old is another matter.
You need to work on the accuracy of some of the history. The coupe was not made after 1981 (though I believe one or two were registered in 1982). There was also a fairly big upgrade for 1977 (big enough for the Silver Shadow to become the Silver Shadow II, though the Corniche didn't change series number). The steering switched from recirculating ball to rack and pinion amongst other changes. Easy way to spot a later model - look for the spoiler, rubber bumper and fog lights below the bumper.
@@carsandcustard Nor am I, but I know a little bit about a few cars (mainly pre-Merc Aston Martins). Really nice to see someone take the time to record a video of an old car like this. The Camargue would be nice to see too. And really nice to see someone take the time to answer a comment that wasn't gushing praise. Well done! I will have a look at what else you've produced.
Nice review… totally get your points. Found a special one locally and after seeing your thoughts we are off to drive it this morning…. It’s for my 17 year old daughter of course….. but I have to be collected from the pub in it. 😊
I currently have a 1.2 Lounge, and I bought it because its cheap to run and maintain. The economy being the way it is I needed to save money so its helping me do that, plus its 60s styling makes it more fun to drive. Most cars today look like featureless electric shavers so its nice to have something a little different 🤷♂️
Agree with all of this and I enjoyed your review. I absolutely love my 2008 1.4 Sport which I’ve owned since 2010. Loves to be thrashed, looks pretty, sounds good, nicely weighted steering (with Sport mode engaged) and brings on smiles with every drive. Without doubt the most reliable car I’ve ever owned and I even find it comfortable on long journeys, cruising on the motorway and dual carriageway in 6th gear. Mine hasn’t let me down in 14 years, even with lapses in the maintenance schedule in recent years. Will not sell it, even though it’s a little used garage queen nowadays.
It is true. They improved the ride on the LCI cars, but the M-Sport suspension is still very harsh. The best bet for ride quality would be a later SE with some smaller wheels.
In the US we got the 1.4 made in Mexico which didn't help. The engine is great. We had a Natural Aspirated engine from 2012-2014 100HP, the Turbo model in 2013 ~120 HP. Abarth ~160 HP, not the same as in the UK. They are slow at take off, but on the Highway they can do 80-100 MPH like nothing.
Where are you ppl getting these Rovers for so fuckin cheap- when I look them up on Craigslist they are still going for WAY OVER 6/7/8k in dollars which is way more than 3k pounds. RU-vid BS
Do you have any tips what to look for I’m going to look at a 2005 x3 2.0d msport to buy tonight it has 160k on the clock it’s pretty cheap thought it’s worth asking any in put would be appreciated
Try to buy one without the panoramic roof. Check to see if the timing chain has been done. Make sure the tyres are matching, as they’re quite sensitive to mismatched ones, especially if it’s a staggered set up.
The American non-turbo FIAT 500s are all the same, regardless whether it's a Sport, Pop, or Gucci. They get all the turbo engine cooling features internally without the turbo. 101 hp. MultiAir, 16 valve cylinder head. Non-turbo intake and exhaust manifolds, & a higher compression set of pistons (10.8 vs. 9.8 turbo) are the only changes.
So basically youve got an abarth engine without the turbo ive got an abarth and it suits my purposes perfectly only down side was the security but i fixed that 😮
Bought my s turbo for 700 euro 9 years ago ,at 170.000 miles she never let me down ,fuel economy is not great but it's cheaper to run than financed new car,and yes all s turbos came with LSD ,sure best way to check is jack the car up and spin the rear wheels, one thing I can't understand is mine came with red spark plug leads while yours are black
Anti freeze is antifreeze all that colour stuff is nonsense. I think you did right thing getting all the work done. Probably go a year or two now with very little to do. Although you did get ripped off lol
Those front air strutts are £170 and should only be 2 hour labour max? These specialists you want to avoidm those strutts are very easy to replace too. Yours been older doesnt have the more expensive VDS strutt does it?
Beautiful car, wish we had these where I live. Some are starting to import the jdm forester s/tb but so far I’ve only seen one in Hawaii and it’s selling for $9K USD at the moment. Hoping I can own it one day if the price is right.
Still have my 2006 3.0i with a 6 speed manual. It gives a ton of trouble oil pan leaks broken driveshaft worn carrier bearing broken rear coil springs and broken evaporator. When she's in great shape she runs amazing I've done 10 hours straight on a road trip easily
Great vehicles! Will make for some great RU-vid content. Harry Metcalfe, Jeremy Clarkson, Mat from High Peak Autos, and Iain Tyrrell also can't be wrong with their L322s!
I’ve just got a 2001 s turbo with 240k kms for 1000€, as a previous owner of 2006 impreza STI , 2018 forester, right after this vid, i just cannot wait to go for a drive when it arrives :)
I have a 2006 3.0i Msport with a manual gearbox and no sunroof, has the factory subwoofer, I bought it as a back up car, I daily drive a Land Rover Discovery 4 on the farm and my wife drives my old Touareg 4.2 V8 tdi R line. I can honestly say the old X3 is the most fun to drive, 180,000 miles and no squeaks or rattles. I had two X3s before but both autos, I knew they were good cars but the manual gearbox makes it feel like a completely different car. I feel the same as you about them, I wanted something that was fun to drive but I needed something practical with four wheel drive that I could chuck the dogs in the back and cope with Swedish winters if the D4 is down waiting for parts, also as a weekend car that is clean, my D4 gets disgusting and smells of wet dogs! I looked at Audi Quattros, Foresters etc but this one popped up and I snapped it up, one owner car. You just can´t find anything better for the money, the original X5 looks really dated but I think the X3, especially in Msport, has actually got better looking with age, it still gets some admiring glances, it´s in a really nice blue colour, I forget the name but it´s stunning. Great car and I love driving it on a B road.
