1 MONTH with my Cheap RANGE ROVER, here's what I've spent so far...

In this slightly more boring video, I talk you through my first month of 'running costs' with my cheap L322 Range Rover. I will detail the costs I've encountered so far and then try to justify the insanity of the costs.
If this style of video isn't to your taste, don't fear, there will still be plenty of my usual content coming soon.

Hey - loving the updates. I'm the guy who bought the other RR in your first vid - picked her up a couple of weeks ago. There was some really heavy rain just after and I had a warning show up for water in the fuel - a common sensor thing I've read, but fortunately the dealer had just had the same thing on his own RR and had one on hand. He had his specialist put a new filter on mine while I waited this week under (1 month) warranty. Like you, I'm loving the RR experience and going out for unnecessary drives and putting the dogs in the back for walks further away than I might otherwise. The expensive diesel in the 4.4 V8 diesel (516 Lb/ft torque!) gave me 33 MPG this week on a run, but gives me around 28 otherwise. Fortunately nothing else to declare, but I shelled out a lot more than you from the dealer. I'm keen to hear about the leather conditioner - had actually looked up the same product myself. Will be following - all the best with this 👍

The good news is that things like tires and airbags are a cost that won’t happen every month. The bad news is that until you’ve gone through it to bring everything up to a proper level there will be other costs each month that might equal what you spent in April. Just space it all out as you can and you should be fine. I appreciate your attitude and approach to it all so far.

People buy these cars without really understanding how much they will cost them, so get neglected and fail. I have had a few Range Rovers, and the v8 SC Petrols are always the one I would go back to, Sound incredible, pulls well, reliable (if taken care of). Good luck with it, subscribed

Unfortunately that's just what it costs to own such a great car. You've still got a bargain - you could buy one for 8 grand and still have to do the service, gearbox, probably suspension etc within the first year. It might have fewer external problems. At least this way you're doing the work before it's broken and creating your own, reliable version of the car history. Perhaps if you sell it in a year you'll get a lot of that money back anyway. Subscribed - love what you're doing!

The gearbox is supposed to be 'sealed for life' But can be done by a specialist, it's about £500 and can be done by a mobile specialist at home. Trying to get the satnav to work - just because - Tried an update disc no good, new gps antannae so I do actually get a gps signal now. Going to try the actual disc player next. Front brake pads on Thursday. I must be as mad as you!

I certainly don’t buy the ‘sealed for life’ thing! Seems like a pain with the sat nav. Mine doesn’t have the disc, so might try one and see what happens. We’re all as mad as each other!

It's a ZF gearbox. Doesn't need a specialist to service them an idiot can service thr ZF auto box's. You can buy a kit for £70 including all the oil. They are sealed for the 'expected' life of duration of the warranty or upto 10 years. Doesn't literally mean life lol

Well done love the vids and you have done a great job on her as with all the other cars in the fleet ❤️

Was that tubes of Dr Trany I see for the gearbox? I would research on the RR torque converter 1st, my old Disco used to suffer with the well know gearbox “judder” when accelerating as the auto box changed gear, turns out that my gearbox needed a service & the torque converter needed sorting which is a little costly. I did find a chap that could recon them for a couple of grand I think that made them run like new after, so it can be done. If you use the tranny in the gearbox, it’s only a temp fix,

I laugh when people 😊 bet the petrol station owners love you". Fuel doesn't count. It's a 4.2L V8, with a supercharger on a car that weighs over 2 tonnes; fuel economy was not on my list of priorities when I bought my '09 Full Fat. And I agree 100% on the feeling it gives you. I've had it for 7 years and it still gives me a sense of occasion when I drive it. And the sound of that engine never ever gets boring when I turn the key or the roar of the engine mixed with the whine of the supercharger as I overtake. When you have the passion for your RR, you'll realise that cost doesn't matter. It reminds me of people who spend hours in their garages feeling with their old classic MGB of A40 or whatever; I used to think that the amount of time that they spend on it, they would be better off just buying a new car. But it's that passion that makes them carry on. My L322 is old and well used and although I should sensibly get rid of it, I don't know what I would buy to replace it. Great cars. And you are spot on about that 4.2 being the best choice in an RR.
@nas3793
@nas3793 Год назад
If you have the cash to restore it mate by all means go for it. IMO the l322 RR are genuinely the best looking models however the running costs and maintenance costs are a bit top of the market as these cars had big price tags to start with. So it’s only natural that you would be spending silly amounts to keep it running. If you enjoy it go for it

I have an L322 and £1000 bills are not that unusual. Why do I spend it? Because I have a luxury car that I love and it costs me about a third of what a new one would per month. I enjoy the car every time I drive it. I use independent specialists who may not be the cheapest but I have found them to be fair and careful in their work. It may be expensive to own, but it represents good value to me based on the pleasure it gives me.

Sorry, but you really ought to have sought a few quotes for the bodywork first. To get that work done properly you’re looking at more than a grand a side. You’ll almost certainly need the inner and outer rear sections of the sills and jacking points re-fabricated. Take a look beneath the plastic sill trims and see. It really is a big job I’m afraid.

Love the vid. As im about to move back to UK and have a serious desire to buy an RR or an LR4 for example Im really interested in actual expenditure ( as apposed to projected). I do think , assuming this will be a rolling costing that including fuel isn't right as its such a relative expense. Likewise, phone accessories and mud flaps and the like arent really relevant as they are personal choices. Maybe its just me being a grump but Id rather see the spread sheet divided into necessities / tech needs / MOT requirements and "the rest" . Not that I'm not interested in stuff like getting good interior mats i just think "the big picture" would be better. Cheers .....Subscribbed

Not the same car I know but I bought a 2013 RRS HSE Black Edition with the SDV6 engine. Had it about 4 months now. Other than fuel I bought 4 wee bottles of water to keep in the fridge costing £1.20 and that's it. Used daily, £100 worth of diesel lasts about 5 weeks, returning 32-38 MPG. Have I just tempted fate?

I'm not sure you can add Petrol to your running costs, if not, why not add Insurance and Tax? I got the rubber mats for mine pretty quick too! I'd send that Lubeguard stuff back and buy some proper ZF Lifeguard 6 oil. I just made do with 6 bottles at £20 a pop and a new filter/sump. £170 all in so a fair saving if you're willing to have a go at it yourself? I did mine and and to reach proper oil level you need the engine running meaning your working next to a hot CAT. Looking forward to your progress. I've some body work, brakes and wheel refurb still to do on mine.
@carsandcustard
@carsandcustard Год назад
I think that insurance is more of a reflection of personal circumstance and choice than a reflection of the vehicle. Some might have an individual policy, some multi car, some trade and so on. Tax wasn’t taken until the next month, otherwise I would’ve included that! Might have a go myself, though I’ll research the job a little more. I’ve still to do those too. Can’t complain given the age of these L322’s though!

I think running a Range Rover based solely on what it needs is a false economy. It refers back to the point that I mentioned in my previous video of people trying to run these on a shoe string budget. To reply to your first point, the difference in labour can be explained by the first garage being a family friend who kept the car for a while, working on it when he can, and therefore being generous with his hourly rate. The second, a Land Rover specialist turned the car around in a few hours as I needed it back, also commanded a higher hourly rate.
