I’m thinking of leaving my corporate job as well age 48, but I want to mention something here because I am one of those managers asking when something will be done. Sorry to hear you wanted to run and hide, my advice is to communicate with those managers! Ask for the time you need! They are having to feed that information up into management meetings and it can really stressing tech staff don’t communicate the issues they are having and give realistic estimates! Make space for yourself to think. If you think it should take 3 days, ask for 6 days! Make space to breathe, think, check the work and fix mistakes. Rushing it is a false economy ❤
Thank you, Jess. This was super helpful. I'm currently in another free bootcamp and I am struggling. Need to go back and start over but my class is live and I don't want to hold up anyone else's learning.
Im working in tech now and this resonates with me 100% . I recognize that I am privileged to have a high paying job during these though economic times but I do think that the mental stresses of working in this industry is often trivialized. I started taking meds to manage my anxiety and thwart my panic attacks. To be honest, I'd rather make less money (within reason) for the sake of safeguarding my mental health. I'm looking into an exist strategy, possibly going to a trade school top become an electrician or something.
Hello! I wouldn’t recommend coding on an iPad I use mine for notes and wireframing. For these cases the base model is perfectly fine. That’s what I started with but it all comes down to your preference and what you plan to use it for. Hope this helps! 💕
@@theminimaljess It really was! I'm a self taught software engineer and I'm currently struggling with learning how to learn 😿😿 Those tips where awesome and I'll try to apply them asap, specially anki
I quit my $210K work from home tech job in March after 2yrs. The work culture wasnt even toxic and the people were great. Still the best decision I ever made.
Thank you for sharing this. There’s a lot of super important takeaways from this video. And not just for people who wanna work in tech, but any job. Seriously, thanks for being open and honest about your experience at this job. I’ve dealt with anxiety and panic attacks before too, it sucks and it can really make things harder. I’m glad you’re working through it and I know you’re gonna be alright. Appreciate the video. 🙏🏼
Relatable. Thank you for sharing. Life is a gift and I believe we deserve to have a career where our mental health thrives. Go you for prioritizing you. I quit too
Thank you for making this video. I know that the motivation and drive comes from within, but sometimes I do get discouraged learning to code. Especially with the AI chatter that comes with it sometimes. I do a project at least once a week but I'll get into my groove soon. ❤
Hi Jess, when you say you have some emails to check, are they emails about coding errors to fix? Just wanted to know what do the emails entail, as far as Web development working for a company
I've been through the same situation with mice in my previous house, pregnant and with a young child... Since then I unlocked a new trauma every time I hear some scratching noises lol. Rough times are such a motivation moving backward!
Great insights, and glad I landed on your channel. I actually do both design and dev but with ZERO code, and I’m currently creating a curriculum for a web design course. My focus is on 3 areas: Strategy 50%, Design 30% and No-code development 20%. This ratio is also how the income from web design projects is shared. So, while it’s good for designers/creatives to learn code, my 2 decades experience in design has taught me that Strategy is the one thing that designers and developers should really strive to understand. It is the bridge between the business world and the creator world, and your ultimate path to much higher income - be it as an employee or freelancer. To kick off, start reading and consuming content on Creative Strategy. There’s a lot of great content by Chris Do on his channel “The Futur”.
Glory hallelujah... amen! Turn on your radio with the Holy Ghost instrumental or worship music. It will bring peace and change your atmosphere in God's love. Speaking from experience. Thanks for being transparent. Blessings and joy!
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS....I try to watch them as much as a i can every morning before i start working on my projects. I am a VR/AR developer that works with unity game engine with c#. I am now naturally wanting to know more about software development the front-end and back-end (fullstack) I would like to add that skillset to virtual reality and create applications that give a holistic and humanity first approach in immersive technologies instead of it being used for games. Love What you go and your perspective. ALSO SHOUT OUT TO YOU FOR BEING A CHILD OF GOD AND DAUGHTER IN CHRIST LOVE THAT ABOUT YOU ASWELL AND THE FAMILY ASPECT YOU PUT IN YOUR TECH VIDEOS THIS IS WHAT SETS UP APART!
