I garden in Southern New Jersey, Zone 7a. Everything I show in my garden comes from years of learning and trial and error. I'm a self-taught gardener and I have my master gardeners certification. I live on a small city sized lot and I'm an organic gardener. Hope my videos inspire you! Mailing Address: PO Box 370 Paulsboro, NJ 08066
The pathway curves you added are just right 👍. I am in 9b/10 SW central Florida and every seed I got started germinated and then in one day the sun fried every single one! And I had them shaded for the afternoon & evening. So I will be going with starts next winter bc we had no cold days this year. In my neighborhood we dropped down to the 50's only a few nights. Even in the shade the temperature got to 100+ several days in May and stayed in the 90's. I picked the wrong year to grow from seed!
Don't worry about changing YOUR space! I have a teeny tiny garden space and I am ALWAYS reworking it. I'm already thinking about how I want to change the space next spring -- some plants have works, some haven't; some structures has worked, some haven't. That's why I love gardening and design!! Love your spaces!!!
New sub here. Wow, you've got the gardening midas touch to create a beautiful side garden from a driveway.. As a seasoned gardener, it just blows me away what you've achieved in such a short amount of time! I love the look of the square tiles on top of the gravel, and at 9:50 when you talked about placing circular stepping stones in your herb garden, I thought why not try tilting the same square tiles into a diamond shape by turning them 45 degrees for the herb garden walkway. You wouldn't be introducing another hardscape into your design, just a different geometric shape. It might work, might not, but that's part of garden creativity, right. As an artist, it's easy for me to see possibilities in other people's gardens. Love your idea of transition steps on the slight slope. It would look lovely! And it's very smart of you to make a troublesome spot in your garden into a wonderful opportunity. Also love your airy "see though" plants. They add a beautiful layer and texture without the bulk. They also dance gracefully in a summer breeze. You mentioned some of your plants getting twice as tall (or more!) as usual this year. I had the same thing happen in my garden this Spring. My knee-high Allium got chest high and the Tulips were exceptionally tall. I think this phenomenon is a garden gift from God. I have no other explanation for it, do you? Enjoyed the video!
I love your garden. At 1.09, you show some garden boxes that are enclosed with a wood/wire frame. Is that frame removable? I'm curious how you weed that space. I have eight 4x8 garden boxes and chickens that love to get in there and tear them up. Looking for a solution and this looks like it might be possible.
Thanks so much!!! Yes removable! I got the framed panels from a company called Greens Fencing. They do come in different sizes too. It comes with wooden stakes, but I cut those off and zip tied each corner together so I can lift on and off.
Thank you! They are really close. Probably too close! I wanted a full look quickly, but I many end up spacing out in the future. I think about 12 inches in between.
What's wrong with changing ? I change my garden every year I think about it all winter long. Isn't that the beauty of gardening ? Keep up the good work your garden is Beautiful Keep up the good work. Personal Please yourself no 1 else
You are so spot on! Thanks for saying this! I feel the same. I think I got really bothered by a nasty comment. They said “you’re always changing everything. You have taken away all the charm” Of course I find that comment ridiculous and rude, but, I let it linger and bother me. Thank you for being kind! 💜
I realize this was 4ys ago but I'm having issues now. Your geraniums are wonderful. I love, love, love your whole area! 1 day our living Father will bless me with a home of my own. I rent but have planted & have flowers in pots but I'm not, or can't do anything permanent. Awesome
Just decoration here. But, they can be used to trap earwigs which I should try. Fill with newspaper and they will collect in there apparently. Also they are used to cover lower stakes so you don’t poke your eye.
What a lovely transformation! I appreciate this transition video as that’s the way most of us are as gardeners! Your space is so welcoming, thank you so much! 🇨🇦👏🌸
Thanks so much! I agree! It can take years, but that’s the fun of it. 😃 always love to see my Canadian friends on here. Thanks for watching and Happy belated Canada Day! 🇨🇦🍁
I have always been a big fan of your channel, your gardens are thriving, I love 💕 the echinacea with the downward petals so much , it’s my favorite, greetings from Massachusetts
Those are called stems. And in this case, you remove the entire stem from the plant when you dead head to encourage new growth. If I snapped one off that wasn’t dead for the sake of demonstrating, I assure you they grew just fine! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I just wanted to thank you. In an older video, you showed how to use a conduit pipe to hold a hoselink. I am not handy and never knew how I would be able to mount a hoselink. I took a chance and purchased a hoselink, knowing I would try your pound a pipe technique, and it has been working great. Thank you for sharing it!
Oh this is so nice to hear!! It really works well! The one on my patio is mounted this way. I did mount the other to my fence because I wanted to raise it up some more. Very happy to hear you’re enjoying your Hoselink! 😃💜
Stunning garden! I would buy concrete pavers in the same size as the porcelain tile and glue them together using polyurethane glue. It would fortify the porcelain tiles and keep them from moving and cracking.
Thank you! 💜 I hear you, and that’s a really great idea! But, these are very heavy. They are intended for outdoor use, patios, walkways. No cracking potential even in snow or inclement temps. I was concerned about that and contacted the manufacturer directly.
So much has changed in the garden since the Wine and Weeds tours, and all for the better. You are one of the most relatable gardeners here on YT with a beautiful garden. You should be so proud of what you have achieved . That watermelon plant better live after all that effort! My twins came home with a runner bean plant from school but them both succombed to a slug attack after being planted. Still have not lived down the deaths of last years sunflowers from school.😢
Oh thank you so much for such nice feedback. It’s so appreciated! I feel like it’s an entirely different space now. So happy! Oh gosh! Those are high pressure situations 🤣 I fully understand. Last years marigold from 4th grade class did not survive. 🙈
I just love your garden and all the changes you have made. I also love that thalictrum. I’ve tried to find one for several years now, but so far I haven’t found one. I saw it in a bouquet once and knew I had to have one! 😂 thanks for sharing your garden with us.
Thanks so much! They were from Home Depot, they are still sold, but the manufacturer reduced the size of them quite a bit now. I bought one more not knowing this and it didn’t match up. I called them and they said the size was reduced to help with shipping costs from weight.
Laura, I’m loving this evolution of your garden space. You know, as I’m getting older, I have realized that things I once didn’t care for, I now love 😂. I think it’s more that I’m open to new and different things. Plus the world of social media exposes me to new things, which is how I met you! Thank you for your garden knowledge , your wit & humor and most importantly, your friendship! 🥰
Hi Donna!!! I love seeing you here! You know, you have been a source of inspiration to me many times! The entire time we were putting pickets back I kept thinking of you and chuckling thinking back on our past picket discussions! 😂We are just two peas in a pod and I wish we lived closer! You’re a great friend! 🥰🥰
Thank you so much for subscribing! Isn’t he adorable!! I don’t have the best answer on where you could find him. I got him in person at the Philadelphia Flower Show a few years ago. What I can tell you is, it said his name is “Sir Henry” so you may be able to find him online. 💜🐰
Stunning garden ! I also love your sense of humour ! Squirrels , earwigs and boxwood caterpillars are active this year 😢 in my garden . Now I notice a bunny who dug a path underneath fence from the neighbours ! 😩🇨🇦
It´s looking fantastic - not like an ex driveway at all. Well done! Your garden is so sweet - I love all the little details. Mine is totaly out of hand - it rains on and off and the mosquitoes are so bad - you can´t go out there - they will eat you alive. On Sunday I was brave - I can not even count all the bites. 🙄Happy gardening! Hugs from Germany 🤗
I like all the changes you made (except I do miss the garage-garden's charming cottage planting before the boxwoods made it so formal) and think every one of them is an improvement over how it was before.
Thanks! Certainly a lot of thought went into that big change. I know it’s very deceiving sometimes on videos, but that previous space was massive raised veggie beds that would never be able to bloom and thrive in the shade from above. Then just a long row of dahlias along a fence. When those weren’t in bloom it was an empty mass of dirt for 10 months. That’s a long time with emptiness. I actually don’t find the boxwoods formal in this setting. If a heavy concrete urn or statue was in the center, and different more structured plantings in between I think it would look much more formal. Thank you for watching!! I think it helps to explain the reasons behind things. Have a great week!!
I completely understand your squirrel problems. They have taken out almost all of my sunflowers, some of them don’t even get to bloom. It’s so upsetting. And yet I keep planting sunflowers every year 😂😜👻🌻🌻🌻
😆😆 oh I fully understand!! One thing I’ve done that worked for me, I plant my seeds in a tray, let them grow a bit out of harms way, then plant them. It definitely helps save some!
@@HowsItGrowing oh no these are fully grown sunflowers. They climb up the stalk and bend it over, sometimes before the bloom has opened, other times they climb up and gnaw the blooms off. I have two shorts on my channel showing what they do. I’m still trying to get over it, even though we literally go through this every year. 🤪
