No to fence ..you will feel closed in. Put in an arched opening to the veg garden if you feel that the veg garden needs a opening presence. Your boxwoods will grow up and give you the feeling you want instead of a fence.

Yes to the fence! I loved the look and with the openings you are thinking of adding, I think you will like it better and less work than the diamond area. Also like the privacy idea. The green door on the shed will be so pretty. You might consider the color Rejuvenation by Behr. So soft and pretty

What a nice surprise to see you on RU-vid tonight! I can only dream about having a greenhouse like yours - so charming. As much as I like a picket fence, I wonder if you would tire of seeing a picket fence in every direction. Perhaps return it to the side where you replaced it with boxwoods, but leave the back area open for a clear view of the garden area. Your eyes would rest on the green space. I know one thing: whatever you decide to do you will make it beautiful.

Yay! So fun to see you pop up in the feed this morning. I so enjoy your approach to gardening - you capitalize on a fresh new season to rethink things you love. You’re so easy to connect with. I think putting the fence back in has my vote. If you paint your shed white, it’ll really unify that end of your garden. Happy spring gardening! P.S. Thanks to your hubby for being so supportive!❤️

I always love your videos! Mostly to dream and just enjoy, but now to actually make some plans of my own! We moved last Fall from a large country woods to a very small town lot! It was a rental so nothing at all is planted! I shoved (literally) some bulbs in the ground last November! I told myself I didn’t care and wouldn’t be starting over with landscaping or gardening (I had to leave so much behind) but now Spring is here, I need to plant! 😂

Yes to picket fence - I loved it so much. I totaly get your desire for privacy - I´m the same way. I think your driveway yard has still a lot of a driveway with the straigt path. Maybe a meandering path instead with plants that grow into it - a little less straigt? Hugs from Germany - finally some sunshine here today - so I can get into my garden. 🌷

Hi Laura, I think you're not " feeling " the driveway section because it still looks like a driveway and not really a part of your garden. We have a huge silver maple right on the property line with our neighbors, I'd say it's a 50/50 split. I can confirm that they love to drop limbs randomly. Not twigs but huge branches. It's far enough away from our houses that it's really not a concern, we just let it do it's thing, hope for the best and clean up the consequences. Happy gardening from the Pocono mountains Pa. Zone 6 A.

I’m glad to see that you’re back. I’m in zone6 and we are a full 3 weeks ahead this year. I like fences. Like the idea of fence panels on either side of the arbor. Wonder if it’d be good to start with that and see if that fills your need for fence. Meanwhile, that’ll give your knot garden time to grow and define itself more completely. Maybe, once it’s mature, it’ll delight you. 🤷‍♀️ This video spurred me on to get out and weed as soon as I get home from work today.

Yes to fence!!!! Garden rooms are what we strive for, it gives visitors a reason to stroll around rather than stand in one area and see it all, adds a little magic here and there. I loved your fence before, thought it was so charming. How it is now, you can view your whole back yard from the driveway which to me makes your yard look smaller. I also think the arbor you are removing from the driveway gate area would look beautiful as an entrance to the garden with roses twined up it rather than just an opening. One thing that bothers me from the view point of standing in the driveway near your house(I’m OCD) is how the knot garden left edge intrudes into the line of the door of the shed/garage… if you do keep the knot garden you might want to think about lining up the knot garden left edge with the right edge of the right doors 🤦‍♀️… 😂😂 am I making sense😂hope so! I’m sure whatever you do will be beautiful! You do you!!! Brenda🇨🇦

Hi Laura, It’s so nice to see your healthy greenhouse plants, daffodils and hellebores blooming. Thanks for sharing your ideas for possible changes to the fences. Have you watched “Clark cottage gardens”? Your driveway picket fence could be put back with low growing graduated perennials on both sides? It would give you more flowers options to grow and a fence helps add to the beauty. Have you considered tall hedges for your front privacy instead of the white fences? Check out “Instant hedges” They were a solution for privacy for “Northlawn flower farm’s “ side yard. I hope you will check out these RU-vidrs for ideas I suggest! Anything you choose will be lovely!

I would definitely leave the knot garden, it’s going to be beautiful! I suggest using the arch/arbor from the drive for the center entry to the veg beds. It’s hard to tell the depth on camera, but I would put the short fence you’re taking out on both sides of the arbor. However, I would put it behind your walking path, ending without a return leaving an entrance by the greenhouse and garage, preferably lining up with the garage & greenhouse corners. You could put posts at the ends of the fence and hang your baskets or top with finials finishing off the ends with an exclamation mark! You’ll still be able to see some of the veg area but it will simplify it visually and will call your guests to explore it. This configuration would allow you to walk straight from garage to greenhouse with the ability to enter the veg area in three places. Once this is in, I think you’ll see you don’t want to put the fence back in the knot garden. Finally, you could also add swinging gates in the side openings so you can go through hands free, if you prefer to finish off that fence line. I hope these ideas help! Cyndi

You are not loving the garage drive because it continues to look like a driveway. I would try to make the driveway look like it is part of the backyard. Bring more plants in the space. Yes to fence, and maybe another arbor to walk through, into the raised bed garden (well you can reuse that arbor.) And of course there would be beds in front of the fence for MORE PLANTS. How about the path from the front arbor goes straight back, and turns into the backyard, then from there to the shed its a bed, also with stepping stones to get to the shed, but you fill those beds with cottage plants....there would be another stepping stone path through to the kitchen garden like you have now.

Thank you! That is hairy bittercress. Lovely name! 😆 it’s in the mustard family. I have it everywhere. Ugh.

Silver maples sort of suck. Glad you neighbor is having it looked it.

Totally hate it. I’m really glad to have it looked at. The position of that limb freaks me out. I do not need a “hand that rocks the cradle” greenhouse moment in my life. 🙈

@@HowsItGrowingthe house I grew up in had a very large silver maple in the middle of the back yard. It started dropping whole limbs and was not very attractive. I’m glad my parents had it cut down.

Ahhh yes. That is “hairy bittercress” quite the name. 😆 it’s in the mustard family. I have it in great abundance. Especially in my driveway area that I never show. 🤣 best to get that out now. The flowers form little slender pods that burst and toss seeds everywhere.

Hi! Just from Lowes. But the best thing to do is look on their website. Lots of options and then you can do in store pickup.

May I ask what zone are you in? I really want an olive tree. I’m in 6A or recently B I’m told. I can’t believe it survived outside.

Hi! I’m zone 7 in NJ. I honestly wasn’t sure this would make it. I usually kept it in the greenhouse but this year took a chance. We got down to 8 degrees for a stretch and snow as well this year.

How about a lighter sage green trim for doors & shutters?

I have a dark green trim, shutters, and doors on my house, so it would match and make sense.
