This channel is all about Mercedes T1's. I'm creating an online community to share information and help each other out in keeping these old reliable (but rusty) vans on the road!
@@peterjanvanbijnen226 pretty sure it's easy to swap the parts from a T1 om602.940 to a om662 which makes install easy. Intake manifold, oil sump, pump, dipstick.... Maybe a few other parts.
great timing, i just drove my 309 flatbed over a bin and it spewed oil everywhere. nice to get some video reference for a amateur mechanic. Appreciated!
Amassing Video I know its not Van Related but I still Loved it. It just shows You can Tackle anything I am very Impressed Good Luck Max and I hope You get back to Yourself Soon
You probably know about these 2 things, but just to clarify, have a spare blank for the last injector nearest you when driving, mine rotted out and left me struggling to find another, and also the connection to the injection pump from the cable has a rubber component that rots out and then you have no connection to the pump from the accelerator, keep wire handy to use until a replacement can be obtained. Also dont be surprised if you never get better than 22mpg, I haven't !!
Ah shit no i could do with a blank, thabks a lot! but I have changed all the pipes now. Ah yes, my throttle spring snapped before so I just took the cover off and operated it from the side of the engine haha! I have seen 23/24 on motorways!!
From Michael P in Watford - I’ve spotted a Merc Sprinter Luton Van - colour black on Van Trader for £7000 which does interest me. Of course, lacks the charm and personality of Rose. At 230,000 miles on a 15 plate seems high to me and at that mileage I would be concerned about the engine, gearbox etc but I suppose it depends on how it was driven and maintained. If this van was more local to me, I would see it in person and take it out for a test drive - I’m interested in your thoughts.
Ah yeah that is a fair few miles, yeah I would agree if you were closer it may be good to drive and see but sprinters are pretty good till the electrical gremlins hit 😂
Good video Max, and a great reminder to keep King Pins greased on a regular basis (I do mine every service as a habit) Couple of things that others may find helpful, based on my own experience with a 1991 T1 : Firstly, lift the front wheels off of the ground. By taking the weight off of them, it’s amazing how much easier the grease flows into the king pins I replaced my standard grease gun connector with a SnapOn needle type connector. This is superb when the grease nipple is seized, as the needle just pushes the middle valve in and frees it up (and with a 30+ year old van it’s very likely you’ll some across some stiff nipples !) Finally, I’ve never had a problem using a full sized gun, perhaps because mine has a decent length flexi hose and the needle attachment Keep up the great work Max, safe and happy travels 😊
From Michael P in Watford - I am a real novice when it comes to the more technical side of vehicle maintenance, as a previous owner of a Luton van I did all the basic things myself including Wax oil underneath - watching and learning from these videos is making me think of doing something mad like buying a second hand Luton van again as I miss my old van which was overrun with rust As with your travel/adventure videos I shall look forward to future videos on this channel too
Hello, I have a small problem on my Mercedes 307 5 SPEEDS that I just bought, the gears are reversed, the first is in the reverse gear position, the second in the tosieme seat....... ...?????? do you have an idea? Wouldn't that sometimes be the linkage that is mounted backwards? maybe the speed selector is not the same? Thank you for your answer
Just found your channel, great video, good information especially part numbers etc. Keep up the good work. We have a 1989 507d it should have the 616 engine but when we bought the van we saw it has had engine swop to 602 na .Once again great video look forward to the next one
Nice one Max, those gear linkage parts are definitely worth carrying. I’ll get one of those springs when I’m next at the Merc depot. Happy New Year fella, safe travels
You might want to rat proof it since lock down there's rats frigging everywhere they really like to chew through wires blame parking apps and "vanlifers" who empty there waste other than that you can never be truly prepared remember tomorrow's another day why worry
Hi I'm going to put that on my to do list over the winter purchase throttle springs to carry as spares, we don't use our T1 208 over winter but we maintain her and improve things ready for the new season,
Interesting video Max. All very important. Big problem with my van. 5 spare wheels haha. Normal one and then 4 wheels with snow tyres. Mate a bit pissed off as taking up room at his place lol. All the Very Best Wishes for the New Year Mate 🙏
Happy New Year Max!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am always amazed that a lad of 19 has attained such knowledge & drive in life!! KUDOS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big hugs from Kenny Ohio USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice one Max. Oh it's nice to have a vehicle that parts are always available, especially old Skool ones like yours. Nice old Run DMC hat 😊 Hopefully you weather will improve up there. I see Gary is next to you. Real Nice Bloke 👌. Take Care Buddy
Good one, thanks Max. Another copper slip fan here, I’m always fussy about cleaning threads and adding some copper slip ready for ‘next time’ lol. Some extra long bent nose pliers are very handy for holding those wires firm.
Great video Max, a very handy reference for others especially as gear linkage problems seem to be very common on these old beasts (but very simply fixed at the roadside when you know how they work!) Great tip about the coat hanger to align the rods at the gearbox end, thank you. One extra piece of info that may be of help to others : You’ll see what looks like a part number embossed on the gear levers (the 3 on the side of the gearbox) but as I’ve learned, these are not the Mercedes part numbers. Instead, they are the aluminium cast numbers. Had me (and my Mercedes garage) fooled for a while! Also Max, what was the part number for the piece you broke please (and lucky you found one on eBay!) Keep the videos coming, very helpful especially when you show part numbers too All the best Ps - subscribed 👍👍
Yes that's what I'd heard and have a friend that had loads of problems, So thought I'd overhaul them to prevent issues! But yes very simple design! Yes I did know about that whilst I was doing my research! Completely forgot to add it into the video though! The part number for just the ali part that broke is: 6012670332 Thanks!
