In an arena where there are so many photographers giving their perspective on the craft itself and then specific lenses [including overused] and sometimes BAD info on the 50this is one of the BEST videos on both the focal length and photographic perspective. looking forward to going through the rest of your videos.
I have one question... It will be my first dslr and I am really intresting in these so rare really magical filming colours!!! As a camera and in your opinion is it good also if you want to shoot Landscapes, Sunsets, Nature (like living in the woods), Kid parties (kids in motion) and bbq parties ? And in your opinion is it better than D600/610?

Still not happy with the fact that Nikon can't add the ability to NOT have the camera react to a speedlight in the hotshoe. So many 'dead ends' with Nikon.
Sorry, had it and it is SOFT especially at F2 with vignetting. not WOWED at all with it, sure if you only use F4 on up it ok, but I expect BETTER from Nikon Z. Even the viltrox version has a Metal mount LOL

20 has been part of my wedding and event trio for years and I love it so much. It's also great for landscapes if the job includes nighttime work, I find that I don't often regret not having the 15-30 when i bring the 20 instead. Dance floor - this thing is awesome. Agree that it can be tough in a ceremony, especially under open sky, but if there is architecture or tree canopy above I think it really shines. Also great for the walk down the aisle after the first kiss.
Yeah, the high iso on the Zf is just sick. ISO 3200 is just damn near pristine (unless you try to recover a lot of shadow detail in post). To me, even ISO 6400 looks very clean. ISO 12800 looks very good if your image is well exposed. And yeah, if LR or DXO Pureraw...it's just absurd.
I adore this lens on my Zf. This is just an ideal focal length for people photography. As far as the image quality, this lens definitely punches above its retail price. It has some quirks, but the overall look of the image it produces is very nice. I'm an ethusiast, so I don't carry two cameras with me. The 40 kind of gives me a little bit of what the 35 and the 50 would separately. Then if I can have an 85mm in the bag if I want to do portraits and get that extra blur and background compression, and a wider lens like a 28 or 24 if I want to capture more of a venue. I wish Nikon 28mm was an f/1.8 or f/2, though.
When I switched to mirrorless I bought a new trinity & this lense. When I compare the amount of shooting I did with each lense and how much money each earned me, I can pretty safely conclude that 2 out of the 3 trinity lenses were kinda wasted. The 50 is so good, it's unbelievable.

Still using in 2024, for the last decade it has pretty much just has my nikkor AF 180mm f2.8d glued to it. It’s not the first camera in my bag for most of my work, but if I need a camera to make people look beautiful, it’s coming along. 30 year old lens and 15 year old camera and magic somehow happens.
I don't give out raws because I want to be paid for my style. Why pay me to take your photo if you don't want me to make my image as I visioned it to become. I have a style that I like and I want to sell that style.

Aloha from the Big Island! Thanks for the cool video. I'm looking to pick one of these up for mostly people shots. I'm glad you mentioned flare because that obviously works well here in Hawaii. I was thinking of grabbing a couple Sigma prines but from what you said I'm wondering if their coatings might be too effective. Should I stick with Nikon glass? What do you think pairs best? Mahalo!
