at 23:20 he talks about a water gremlin sinker and the water gremlin company gave their employees and employees children elevated lead levels as well as members of the community living near their facilities. Please dont buy Water Gremlin products or any lead for that matter:)
@@Duranglers was still a good shop even back then in that basement!!! Glad to see that you guys kept it together and built it up to what it is today!!!
have you tried the 4w with a float line? Would a 5 w float line be the right choice? Considering the 10' 4 w to be a euro/ dry fly rod. using a mono rig connected to a dry fly line.
This is literally the best video I've seen promoting any series of fly rods. I was on a recent excursion for a week of fly fishing for some bones, permit and other larger sized fish. I had my 8's & two sage salt's in 12 for the big stuff & some blue water as they have a serious butt end to pull some pretty big fish. Can be a little hard to cast after a while but they do launch a fly into the next time zone. Anyways, a friend puts his sector 12 weight in my hand and i thought it was a 10 . When i realized it was a 12 I could not believe the weight difference and although I did not catch anything of great significance with it I was in awe of this rods ability to cast the fly in semi windy conditions . Honestly, i had reservations about this rods true ability or the big stuff, but after viewing this vid I went out and bought a 12........ and maybe a second one down the road just in case ......lol.
I too like simple and i use various versions of my few favorites. Generally the different versions seem to work just as well as my favorite version. Most of the things i tie seem to work just as well in warm water as salt water😊 i dontbfish cold water but i woild not de surprised if a lot of the same patterns wouldnt well there too
I owned one for a day and sold it on. Sorry but this is a brick of a nymph rod. I must add I’m a huge sage fan with over 20 rods but this is overpriced crap from sage. I wish I had just paid the extra for the esn. Went back to my trusty guideline lps 9.6 2 weight

it does not get in the way too bad depending on the net. A longer handled net fits in the sling better, though with the waist pack you may be reaching around your net to access the pockets. This is the conundrum with slings and nets.
@@Duranglers ok thanks. How do people in the shop and customers like them since shooting this video? Are there any issues are pros that you like about the sling?
Man surprised you run streamers on floating Line. Seems bizarre. A lot of this info changes once you start using sinking line especially heavier sink line. A 6wt with sinking line would really push the limits of that rod
Awesome video - I just bumped into Dave at a street fair, and totally fell into this category of fishing. Soaking up knowledge as we gear up and get ready to tackle the Sound!
Do you have a suggestion for an appropriately balanced reel for this rod? I will likely be using the Rio Euro Nymph line (#2-5) and standard mono leader setup…thanks
For a floating line, we really like the RIO Predator. This rod really seems to like lines designed for bigger flies. duranglers.com/product/rio-elite-predator-fly-line/ The SA Titan series is a good one to look at too...but this rod seems to eat up almost any sinking line you put on it. For a reel, we like the Sage Spectrum 5/6. duranglers.com/product/sage-spectrum-fly-reel/ The Redington Grande Reel and the Orvis Hydros III also balance this rod out well: duranglers.com/shop/fly-reels/all-water-fly-reels/orvis-hydros-fly-reel/
Nice simple tie. My experience w fly fishing in CO is attitude, especially from the locals and guides when you're not using one. Using an environmentally less hazardous resin and having to mention it AND calling a UV light a torch like in the UK. The class thing rubs me the wrong way!
Same. I've been fly fishing exclusively for 17 years but this behavior needs to go. There's nothing "elite" about fly fishing, it doesn't make you better than anyone else, your environmental ethics don't make you better than any other fly angler, and for god sakes make cheap equipment a normal thing. Give up the gentlemen's "better than thou" nonsense altogether. It's the reason I will never join clubs, even though I've been asked to dozens of times.
Hello, I am going to buy a redington classic trout 9´ 4wt, I am going to dry fly and dry dropper fishing, I was wondering what would be better for me, Scientific anglers mastery trout - scientific anglers mastery VPT or mpx ?? thanks
Are you meaning the recoil guides? They found the guides used decreased the swing weigh of the rod whereas recoil guides actually added to the swing and overall weight.
I have seen Juan Ramirez, Eli Gonzalez, Charlie Craven tie this type of pattern in one form or another. You are correct. It is a fish catcher. Good job and video.
Hey Wayne, thanks for watching! It is by no means "original" but it certainly catches tons of fish for us. All of those tiers have a version or variation in one form or another.
What an awesome video! So many great things about the video…. Paddleboard, surf casting, all the different species, and the bend in those rods… thanks for the video!
Very cool video and casting skills 👍 All your catches are great. Especially the Rooster Fish from the shore! It’s hard enough catching one on a spinning rod much less on a fly rod. Great skills for sure 👍
