On Sunday September 29, 60 minutes had a story about Florida insurers reducing claim payments by up to 80% or more from adjuster's reports for the reason of greed. Two adjusters showed and spoke of this happening. Unbelievable. Should be prohibited by law!
Remember last year after southwest Florida got hit with another hurricane and insurance companies wouldnt pay out until the home owners proved which happened first, the flooding or wind? All while Florida Gov Ron Desantis and Florida repuglicans removed the term climate change from all Florida laws and bills. 😳🇺🇦🇺🇲💙
If you're stupid enough to buy a house 5 feet above sea level and in an area that you know is going to have a hurricane, what do you expect? Quit crying and move
Insurance companies spread the burden of pay outs on claims. Everyone pays for the damages of others in a cooperative way, the insurers use your money to make money for themselves and you are strapped with paying for everything. Dropping accounts with multiple claims, ie, hurricanes, flooding and such. They lose money because of the money they make from the cream from investing your money. Simple right.
Brant, I watch a lot of your fishing videos and have always enjoyed your knowledge. I think you should make sure you get the facts straight before you post misinformation though. In my experience people have an experience but don't understand or listen to the full facts of the matter. I have been writing insurance for 17 years. Some in Pennsylvania, and the rest of the time in Florida. 99% of homes do not receive a cancellation notice when they are for sale and even when a home is found for sale, as long as it's not vacant, it is generally not a problem. Vacancy is a serious problem that standard companies won't write coverage for in any state. Underwriting issues don't drop a person as they always give the customer time to fix any issues uncovered. Only if the customer refuses to address an issue will insurance company decide to not renew a policy. Then you have one example where it sounds like the insurance company mixed up a report with the wrong house? No one is being dropped once they put on a new roof. Your 3rd point is completely illegal. Companies can't just take premium and just decide for no reason they are dropping you. There are strict laws as to why they can cancel or non renew and specific notices they have to provide to do either. This is very disheartening how bad your "facts" are. You are doing a major disservice by spreading this. I would be happy to have a private discussion with you about any of the market details if you really are looking for the truth.
I bought my Florida home with cash...therefore "I was not forced to buy homeowners insurance". I have owned my Florida house for 26 years with zero damage. I wonder how much money I have saved in that 26 years?
Brent, whats happening in Ft Myers is exactly how it was in West Palm Beach in the early 90's. So many people moved in and the developers and builders were raking it in. I am blue collar worker who made good money at the time, problem was we worked 6 days a week to make the same as 5 days, pay increases were never near enough to make up the costs of living in the area. We moved to NE Central Florida on an acre, built our own home and were able to live. I foresee the same problems happening in the larger cities around us in the near future.
Thanks for being honest with the public .. We have had thirteen years of property value increases and prices are absolutely ridiculous. You are correct we need a 40% correction before prices are considered normalized.. we need a good strong recession to bring all asset prices down so the middle class has a chance to survive in the future..
Most of these houses are only Valued at those prices, it doesn't mean that they're Worth the higher price. You can't call it "Price Slicing" if a property that is worth 200K is valued at 450K.
Until you get a govern who cares about the people You your night mares are going to continue. That why I will never move to Florida. Quit voting republican thats why the state going to hell
The Republican party has screwed up royally by not fixing the vehicle and property insurance industry that started in the 1980's !!! Build big and build tall residence's that workers in the service industry cannot afford !!! If there's been no change in the climate and the weather, why was spending bills passed to better protect residences from more destructive storms ??
I purchased my home and property in in North Florida 15 years ago. Since then, my mortgage payment has risen from $997.00 to nearly $1,500.00. All from insurance "adjustments". This has caused my payment to increase by nearly 50%. I have never made a claim on my insurance, and yet the price continues to escalate. RIDICULOUS ! ! !
I worked in SWFL for 4 months after hurricane Ian, it was literally like a bomb went off. I don't understand why the Gulf side is so popular, not a huge fan of that area.
My homeowners insurance opened up 2 claims on the same day. One claim was legit and the other was not. Wrote a big void on the false claim and filed it away.
I love living in Florida, but it’s getting so much more difficult with all this insurance b.s.!!!! My ‘local’ insurance company staff all drive high end vehicles…. I mean caddies, Range Rovers! My insurance cut the value of my home in half….. even though we have never made a claim and have only improved our home!!! My son and his new bride are having all they can do to keep their insurance company happy with their constant demands!!!! We are thinking of selling and moving OUT OF STATE!!!

What a mess! Florida needs new a new government structure with binding laws to help ordinary folks not just the rich & powerful. This is a disgrace. Republicans do not know how to run a state to take care of its people. If the insurance industry is so bad, the government must step in & regulate it. Florida hurricanes are killing the state. It’s one of the worst places to live. Why anyone moves there to avoid some snow a few times a year is beyound me. Never thought it was for year round living - only for vacations. Besides the hurricanes, they have sinkholes, bugs, high humidity, low paying jobs, poor health coverage & medical care. I wouldn’t live there if you gave me a house free. Love living in .New Jersey. We have laws protecting seniors, homeowners, tax relief programs, great schools, great police & fire departments throughout the state. We have four beautiful seasons with infrequent snowstorms; rare flooding or major storms - Sandy was our last big one to hit NJ. We have great transportation to jobs, New York City, Philly or other major hubs like airports. Sure we’re crowded but the people are great & if you want to work, you can always find a job. We have farmlands, many open green parks for all, mountains for skiing & the Jersey Shore is lined with great beaches. People that moved to Florida to live cheaply, are being price out of their homes when they have no savings, not able to work & can’t afford living there. It’s a horrible mess. I feel sorry for people who moved for financial reason & are now stuck in a stink hole of a rotten state with a rotten governor who will not & cannot help them.
It looks to me that your walking around in The Villages, FL and its dead!! Hardly anyone around, the restaurants are empty and even the Villagers are feeling this economic crunch.
Bless your heart, LMAO. "This is insanity, borderline criminal, scammy...." No it's typical GOP run Florida! This isn't what Republican voters wanted when they chose Republican governors every opportunity they got?!?? This isn't a flaw of Florida it's a feature and Republican voters are to blame for literally all of the worst features.
From the perspective of a native whom remembers when one had to drive several minutes to get to a grocery store and there wasn't a Walgreens and or a CVS within shouting distance from pretty much anywhere one goes. Your opening statement is an unintentional admission of potential undiagnosed mental health concerns. Florida was a nice place to live, then it became a nice place to be from, now it's almost a nice place to visit, but certainly not information about oneself which one volunteers unless asked directly; where are you from? Florida is a Republican Ponzi scheme shit hole state. It's America's Tijuana. #RepublicansAreTheProblem
