Just yanked the whole box out of my '02 Ram and everything seems fine. Truck starts and runs; and has lights and radio. I'm gonna try that. Edit: Never mind, this thing also, at least, controls the intermittent wipers.
Great video. Tips for backside, corners and other accessory attachment points very helpful. The use of a heat gun to help smooth out anomalies, critical. Something this size is always going to have some sort of anomaly while laying and finishing. I have same truck, same headliner issue, just trying to find the right fabric to use has been a problem. Glue bleed thru is my main worry.
Thanks for the comment! Just make sure you give the glue time to tack up so it doesn’t bleed through. If it’s still liquid looking don’t try it. Usually takes 10-15 minutes after spraying.
So pretty much the same as contact cement...let it set then have at it. You didn't use the headliner material w/foam backing, is that stuff cheap in quality...I'm having a hard time deciding what to use. Don't want to do this again because of lousy material. Thanks@@thedudeaaronfyi
@@oldschool9622 no I’ve never used the foam. You can find foam backed material but the selection is pretty slim. My headliner from the video is still hangin strong and looks great.
How much should I pay for that job? Just labor and adhesive, I supply the cloth. I just got a quote of $ 245. I thought it was a lot and was going to do it myself, but after watching your video, I rather just pay someone. Miami,FL
Well it kinda sounds like you’ve got excessive blow by. I would vent the side port with a hose rather than a cap. The hose could just be open on the other end.
no, it doesn't have the ability to put oil back into the engine. It's usually filled with pretty nasty stuff that you don't want to put back into your engine. I drain mine every oil change. it's usually about half way full at that point.
For removing the foam you might try a plastic detailing brush with stiff bristles (auto parts kind) and a vacuum running to remove & clean up as you go (& hearing protection). Minimize chemicals when you can. Try not to breath lots of dust & chemicals. Be gentle.
Absolutely great video man. Thank you for the tips. I would love to know how large of a piece of material I need to do this on my mk4 GTI. I want to use a customer design but done know how large of a piece I need to order. It's not a pattern but a graphic so I cant order something too big.
Well the width is pretty standard, don’t quote me but I believe it’s 2 yards. Every vehicle I’ve ever done was fairly close side to side but I always order 4-6 yards so I can do visors and other panels etc. it also helps to go overboard incase you mess up. This stuff is usually very cheap so get plenty. But if your tight on money go with 3 yds of length. Should be more than enough
Thanks man! I will try this in my 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. I am wondering how you tracked this chime down? Did you just listen and locate it? Thanks again.
Great job. Was kind of wondering about the long drying time before working in the fabric? I am doing the same for my 97 extended cab. I intend to use 3M Super 77 spray adhesive. I wonder how many were jacked up at the factory and had to be reworked. The probably had a vendor supply them to the production line and just popped them into place. On my 97 I don't have the back doors and it was tight getting it out. Probably went through the rear window before it was installed to get ti in the cab at the factory ?
brake lights worked but i had a blown parking light fuse(23), basically my brake lights would only work w the light s off and all other lights(turn/reverse) on the rear worked. i cleaned up a bunch of wires in the loom/headlight casing and replaced fuses and bulbs/ new oem headlight switch. i notice if i unplug the ballast the fuse doesnt blow but now my brake lights dont work again, could this be do to the system being unbalanced, probably gonna go back to stock headlights. brake lights will not work/intermittent(all 3) if i use my headlights, did ur fix w the needlenose plier and cleaned it up but still same issue. idk what to do thanks!
@@Zxkyyy yeah my hids were installed bad into the main wiring harness, went back to stock headlights and cleaned up the wires, also new oem brake light switch
My tail lights went out and I test my harness with the tester some numbers didn’t read does that mean harness replaced. but everything works but the daylight ones
Please someone answer me. That thing is arcing. 3rd light which is the parking light. I can see visible electricity. The bulb stays on when loose but turns off when I tighten it.
I just went to auto apholster shop for $700 estimate for them to replace headliner 1998 ram . Not gonna happen. Found fabric on ebay this video save me $500...........
@@thedudeaaronfyi I have not done it yet. I got the $700 estimate yesterday. From your awesome video I learned that cardboard backing comes out. Just ordered headliner fabric off ebay $50 . Thank you again. I can use the $500 saved to feed hungry less fortunate people. Thanks again. Merry Christmas
I removed my headliner and the foam but the fiberglass that is left is very flimsy and does not really hold shape well… any tips? Should I flex seal the back so it’ll be more rigid?
I just took mine out of my 1997 ext cab and cleaned all the old foam off of it. It is also super flimsy ??? not sure if i can cover that. The new material has about 1/8 fpam backing.
It’s not too bad. Maybe an hour to get it out. You’ll enjoy seeing your favorite fabric up there rather than the most boring basic fabrics that these come with. Let me know how it turns out!
Thought I was going to have to take Dramamine the camera was moving all over the place. Then he starts in the middle of of the removal. He should also take the sock out of his mouth or stop mumbling!
You would think people like yourself would just find a better video… but your hurting inside and need to project it out. I understand. Either way I’m here for you bro. Happy to help.
Thank You! Those coat hanger's are a crazy attachment design. They are what brought me to your video. Thanks so much for taking the time to film and post this great video!
Hi ! Recently i changed the middle one bulb (side position) It was all fine util now (after 2 days) now only the reverse bulb works...what should I do ?...
Where can I get the fabric ? We have been looking for his 2nd gen and Walmart don’t have it so wide . If that makes sense. If we bought from Walmart we’d have to buy two sections and that wouldn’t look right!
