Meanwhile, despite calibration, my grind setting is below zero and it is still not fine enough. I get out 36g from 18g in 25sec at 9bar. Target is 30sec which requires finer grind size I guess. Is there a critical limit for the Niche?
It is supposed to be zero micron at the smallest setting. Based on above video, you should "tighten" the funnel gently till it does not move anymore (burrs touching each others), then move the black ring to match small arrow and dot as described in video. of course do NOT power up the Niche is such position as burrs will be damaged. I read also other comment that cleaning up (removing parts) helped solved a too tight product because brand new. Then everything should be fine after 3 to 4 kg of coffee, to season the burrs. My comment is based on reading comment sections, I should get MY Niche in a week or so :)
@@vinct7023 thanks for your suggestions. In my case it was in fact the cleaning, combined with a loose screw. By that the coffee sticked more and more to the mechanics of the grinder leading to a certain distance of the burrs even in zero position. Now, as I understood this I’ll keep an eye on tightening the center screw from time to time… and clean the Niche more often 😉
I've just checked mine prior to cleaning for the first time (had it 6 months). When I turn the silver dial back the marker stops at 0 not at the calibration mark. I thought these were supposed to be calibrated when they left the factory. I've cleaned it and there was a fair amount of compacted coffee in there but I'd have thought it unlikely to go out by so far. I guess I'll now have to dial in settings for about 15 different coffees again....
I have nothing but a headache rezeroing the niche duo. What a cumbersome and time intensive process. Why do I have to do that for all alignment points of the upper burr?
just discovered mine had a lot of gunk on the top burr. when i first started using it, i didnt spray with water though. i wonder if that mitigates that. but overall im glad i went through it. found part of a coffee bean between the dosing part and the body. wish the chute were detachable. i noticed some coffee solidified there and it's hard to clean completely.
This guide makes it look easy to remove the black plastic cap. And yet for many people this gets stuck and is difficult or impossible to remove. This video needs to be updated with guidance for this.
it actually doesn't work like this in reality. Grinding filter coffee will leave lots of large coffee residues inside the grinder. When switching to espresso, these large pieces will prevent you using preselected settings. Means, each time you switch from filter to espresso, you have to choose finer and finer espresso settings.
I got a v60 recently so I've started experimenting with my niche for pourovers, while still making espresso every day. Now I understand why it was never working! Every time I went back to espresso, my setting was off by like 10 seconds or more. They'd pour extremely fast. But also all my v60s stall in the last minute of extraction, even if I grind at the coarsest setting on the niche. Do you have any tips on improving pourovers with the niche, or how to not have to reset the espresso setting finer and finer every time ? Thanks!!
@@pablo-zn1mg there is no workaround for this other than cleaning your grinder every other day if you are constantly switching from espresso to filter. What I’m doing is grinding lots of coffee for filter in advance (supply for 2 weeks, storing in vacuum box), cleaning grinder, using it for espresso only until I run out of filtered coffee. It’s a bummer doing it like this but better than drinking ruined espresso
@@atticustay1 that can work when switching from filter coffee setting to espresso but not the opposite way as you will have lots of fine coffee particles stuck inside. Only disassembling and cleaning everything inside will give you great results
I have some issues with my niche zero if someone can help ... my niche not staple if u put it one grind size the next day you getting deferent size of coffee grind i don't know what the issue
Zeroing - that burr touching noise just doesnt occur... What sound should i really be hearing? It just gets deeper, right up until the burrs won't turn, making it nigh on impossible to discern the actual initial touching point.
@@luigiliamzon kind of. I kept the lid up, stuck a pen in the little red button, and with it on, very carefully rotated the dosing ring til I heard what I think was the burrs touching
Thank you so much. I cleaned my grinder and couldnt get it to push any grinds out. I didn't have it properly calibrated! Thought I was going to have to send it for repair. You saved my bacon. Can't thank you enough .
Will the same procedure for the burr calibration work on the original Zero? I want to try and recalibrate as I'm having to set my Zero to number 2 or 3 for espresso.
Its brilliant. I can change the setting in seconds as I use it to brew 3 sorts of coffee. Bought it when it first came out and it hasn't let me down once.
Love this machine, bought it when it was first launched. I used to have two grinders on the go as I use a V60, Espro cafetiere and an ECM machine for espresso. But now I just use the Niche as I can switch between grind settings in an instant.
Hi, just wanted to ask a multi-part question about grinds on the threads of the machine. Took mine apart and I noticed that the funnel’s threads have grinds on them and the receiving threads on the machine itself have grinds there. While trying to clean it, I noticed that there’s some kind of grease on the threads itself. Any recommendations on how to properly clean that area? Are the grinds gonna damage the machine if not cleaned out from there? Thanks!
