Dan Trachtenberg, podcaster turned director, is perhaps the better comparison to a time traveling Truffaut. It's generous to compare angry click bait youtubers to critics. The 1959 comparison is the angry loud mouth walking out of the theatre.
I'm honestly still kind of sad that The Last Jedi split the fanbase the way it did. It's just a bummer at this point. As someone who really enjoyed it, it's just exhausting to even talk about it.
It is ridiculous how everyone loved The Force Awakens at first, but then suddenly started hating it just because the sequels were bad. That doesn't make The Force Awakens any worse.
Because it is? A lot of The Last Jedi is wonky, but I think its themes at its core is good and does shine through by the end, even if the road to it was very bumpy. The Rise of Skywalker is just irredeemable on almost all fronts as there's nothing that makes that movie worth watching. You can watch The Last Jedi for very specific key moments and its stunning visuals; I can't say the same for The Rise of Skywalker.
@@kiramaticc I do love some of the visuals in last Jedi, but the ENTIRE casino planet plot is dumb as hell, they gave Princess Leia the wildest powers out of nowhere just to push her death off to the next movie instead of giving her a send off worth a damn (either way, RIP Carrie Fisher) The entire movie is just a gigantic speed limited space chase that’s hindered by…*checks notes*…fuel….????? Just wow lmao The fake out for Finn’s sacrifice almost had me walking out of the theater it was so unbelievably stupid. Luke’s double gotcha fake out death that he was really a hologram is also stupid because it removes how cool that scene would’ve been if he was actually there. Don’t even get me started on the light speed jump BS either. Rise of Skywalker has a stupid plot device to get the ball rolling, and the subplot about C-3PO not being able to translate the stupid text is a waste of runtime, but the rest of the movie is at least entertaining and gives us some cool moments especially in the finale, seeing Rey and Kylo do the force teleportation shit was kinda neat. The entire sequel trilogy is a huge miss overall, but last Jedi is definitely the worst of the 3
Star Wars fans in 1983: "Wow I love this franchise with its wonderful story and great characters! We can all agree that these are great movies and be unified as one fandom!" Star Wars fans in 1999: "I didn't like that because it wasn't I thought it would be in my headcanon!" Star Wars fans now: "Disney are Star Wars Woke because bad woke Star Wars is bad!" The evolution of adulthood.
I mean it true 😂😂but But film critics are being bought to give good reviews that's why people tend to listen to the RU-vid critics Critics and the audience ratings differ so much these days
Today, 60-70 percent of the review is complaints that there are too many people of color and gays in the frame, and 5-10 percent about the plot and characters (if you're lucky). The remaining time is advertising inserts.
I’m not the biggest fan of the Joker movie but I do think the rest of these films should follow suit; spend money on good writers and directors instead of CGI. Spectacle and fan service will only get you so far.
For me it started with my favourite movies being Spider-Man 2 and then The Matrix. Then came Donnie Darko. Then came Christopher Nolan’s Memento. Then Tarantino. Paul Thomas Anderson‘s filmography followed, then it was Kubrick, then Malick. Now in my 30s I say Scorsese is my favourite director but for the most part if it’s good, I like it. It can be arthouse indie or it could be a massive multimillion dollar blockbuster, as long as it’s executed well in its medium I’m there
I very much agree with the separating the art from the artist thing. I tend to think of it like, okay, but what impact am I or could I possibly be having by not engaging with this piece of media that I like? And the answer is usually none. No impact. The only thing that objectively happens is I don't get to enjoy something. I don't think anyone should defend the problems in a piece of work or defend the actions of gross, shitty people who made or were involved in cool art, but not engaging with the art itself doesn't really do anything.
Lol, say something like that to John Carpenter and his "Thing" or Sergio Leone's "Dollar trillogy". Film critics hated these brilliant movies back in the day. I think these guys have never been into art and their opinion is not worth shit
Great video as always ❤ I own all the movies in this video plus 300 or so blu rays (haven't recounted in a while). I have almost no place to store them at this point, but i love physical media and film ownership is so important especially when streaming services can just delete films/tv shows whenever they feel like it
Thanks man! Also that's awesome, you got a whole library of blu rays basically. I'm hoping that some day I can even have half that many. Also agreed about the importance of physical media
It's funny when anti-SJWs made fun of shill media, yet they're basically the shills who thinks trump or gina carano are the best person. Both are side of the same coin.
nice dude, I will finish watching this tomorrow. I have over 600+ DVDs. Love physical media, digital however I stick to BR rips, only because BR media is not as stable as dvd and the lightest scratches almost always ruin it, so Im scared to even handle them. Oh BTW, Temp Of Doom is AMAZING. The critics are wrong :)
