Welcome to official RU-vid channel of Velo Orange.

At Velo Orange (VO), we believe bicycles should put smiles on faces. We believe that a good bike should provide comfort, utility, and enjoyment.

Since 2006, VO has designed and distributed bicycle frames, components, and accessories to promote Happy Riding. And whether you're the type of rider who gets their happy from grueling it out on a rutted gravel trail, prefers stopping at cafes during an extended tour, enjoys riding to the park with the family, or commuting to work, VO is here to help you dial in your setup and equipment for maximum fun.

Please understand that VO is an unusual business offering diverse products that may not run parallel to what you'd see from many companies and shops. We often design products that we want ourselves, as ever-evolving riders. As such, we'll always welcome any suggestions for new products and ideas to improve our existing offerings.

As always, thanks for your support.

Happy Riding!

Great video. I’m hoping I can get some clarification on proper torque settings for the crank arm bolts. I see everything from 18 Nm to 40 Nm on the internet. Enjoy your day my friends.
@velo_orange
@velo_orange 8 дней назад
It really depends on the crank. I never use a torque wrench on square taper, just make it tight. But there are some 2 piece cranks (like Dub) that require a very high torque setting so a wrench is a must.

I ran into the same problem with the Dura-Ace brakes. Picked some BR-7800s cheap to replace my Tektro R559 on my Rando frame, thinking they'd just fit, but were a bit off. I ended up buying the Velo Orange brakes and am looking forward to getting them.

TIRES: BICYCLE KING OF KINGS TALKS TIRES. I am bicycle king of kings so you would ALL be required believe on faith get behind me. Marketing is very clever.. Satans kids biblical tare race. He HATES bikes cuz they free energy. I bought cash 2 homes commuting on.... bikes. Bicylce king of kings version of reality = very simple I remember it well. Michelin Select 1987 or so hands down changed my life tire. Why? TPI. Ever ridden a REALLY good tubular?? SPEED. Roll resist it equated2 high TPI (thread per square inch) equates 2MASSIVE cmfort = free suspension and rolls i mean FAST & TRACTION CITY. No i mean GOOD suspension. As in delete Satans crap dually suspensions save u 3lbs. High TPI is less weight then more durable low TPI. Less is more. Knobbiez & tread: Dont wrk & never did. They4 30HP treadmill water wheels motocross bikes only. Mud DOESNT WRK.. ..&knobbies DONT HELP. BIKES ARE NOT FOR MUD OR VISCIOUS 28MPH SINGLE TRACK. PERIOD. They are point & shoot above a crawl or running speed device only 21mph or less. U dont need knobs as they slow u. Drammatically. Bikes: Strictly point &shoot beeline flight of th crow medium. Get it? As a rule. Listen rubber gets traction what more do u want. ...6" spikes??? Mt. Goat feet = slicks. Specifically DEFORMABLE slicks. If u go adding additives decrease traction slightly double life tire so what??? "Worth it." The tire shall be deformable. Highest TPI 180 or plus 2.00" 26" 500gram or less with couple puncture belts. ...Continental speed slicks. Knobs are slow???? Proof. Cant evn bleev i have 2say this. Knobs slow u way th &%@! down. Coupled with ultra LESS caps lock weight say no to 940 gram 32mph tank tires that are dead slow like dragging a stiff bone jarring boat anchor, and boom nets u massive maneuverablity agility cmfort& speed & fuel effitientcy safety massively less fatigue.. Do knobs REALLY get more flats: That i dont know. Slicks take all th weight u paid for lay flat. Tread incorporate hollow spots = wear squirm noise vibration hence friction& surface area that packs mud& dirt. Depends on design u would think slicks designed right thicken tread max distributed armour doesnt reduce thickness in valleys like knobs. Slick leave next 2zero perceptible tracks fireroads. Tracks take WORK 2build& work = energy hire 10 x's more ants = pay4 far more employees 2 arrange aaall those iddy biddy teeny weeny grains of sand in2 pretty oh so impressive looking knobby tracks only 2do a far (slower) job in th end now that u can take 2 thbank. AAAAAAAA Worlds best tire: I test 3 tires. I scrapped about 800 runs = 108 Official ones. Technique - became ever more refined precise. Wind pavement& ambient temps had 2b identical, tire carcass had 2b warmed up. Cold tire drammatically crippled results especially with 2.35 ballons - 80% cycling done on hot pavement. I timed marked measured optimum runs all of which had 2b marked with ribbons. I was already predicting ballon tires would be fastest on gravel hence advantageous on rough country roads = they WERE. Question: Did they prefer normal pressure 32psi or highest pressure 55psi? Had they rolled faster 30psi as I'd hoped i'd then have run thm 23psi. 2.35" CAN be run 20 psi but threality = they'll be high friction slow expensive erasers& lower pressures = easier on tubes, pumps, tire carcass& you. 50psi has u wearing out yrself& pumps fast blowing out tires. Why I ALWAYS hold2 the traditional target of 32, 36 psi. These epicenter ideals exist FOR A REASON. Try xplaining that 2 thpeople refuse coprehende an E Bike should NEVER. EVER. EVER top out over 21mph 36 volts running 350 watt front 8lb direct drive geared motor only. Engineering: Satans biblical "tare race." Predominantly literally demons. Plasticines. Computer hive mind Nephilem spirits placed in flesh bodies with Hadron Collider pocketing MASSIVE cash by catering 2 delusional customers. (With mentaliy of an incredibly (stupid) 4year old.) 80% "humans" = cmputer animations. If u want subscribe yr own passionate version of reality purchase spiked knobby tires averaging 8mph dirt. Where slicks average 12mph, then u will also achieve dreadful performance pavement. Hardest part about this test was operating bike/stopwatch precisely& smartphones = dreadful stopwatch in 25mph. Lines had 2b chosen exactly, no traffic.. took me 700 runs just2master it. Schwalbe Big Apple 2.35: #1. Drammatically SAFER, secure, grippy. AAAAAAAAAAA The test: Conclusion: Coast down pavement: This was recorded stopwatch 2 mailbox, then distance 2bike STOPS: Continental 1.75" Road Tours went farthest on coastdown pavement (dock) @55psi AND fastest time 127:51 BUT Continentals were also LEAST distance coastdown on brutal gravel run. Continental did 59.55 full throttle run point A to point B run. Big Apple 2.35" 55psi then proceeded 2beat Continental coastdown pavement by 6' 6" @a LONGER stopwatch 2mailbox, strangely enough, of 131:13 Apple 55psi recorded fastest2 mailbox time by far of 125:42. (Slowest was Schwalbe 1.75 Marathon Plus 30psi @139.42) Full throttle runs: Big Apple was fastest @ FELT the fastest @57:01, 57:76 Schwalbe slowest 102:41 55psi& strangely, it went faster 1minute with only 30psi. Continental recorded 58:42 30psi. So basically here we conclude skinniest Continentals supple 128 TPI 1.75" carcass was indeed fast pavement recorded least max coastdown on gravel as also I expected& big Apple by far lomgest coadtdown also as I predicted, was hoping. We discover Big Apples durable heavier stiffer 67TPI thread count in conjunction with highly elastic supple sidewall thrived on HIGHER PRESSURES. It recorded max coastdown beat ALL tires both on pavement AND on the brutal coarse HIGH speed downhill viscious insanely dangerous gravel run. We found that Big Apple recorded fastest uphill pavement full throttle stopwatch run@ 57.01 seconds. Versus 102:41 Schwalbe@ 55psi run. Proving here also that Schwalbe most likely doesnt prefer higher pressures bcuz Schwalbe recorded a 101:43 full throttle run with only 30psi.

I am an advocate of these v.5 VO Polyvalent framesets, Diamond and Low Kicker, but they are only framesets which then need the necessary components to make them into complete bicycles. For these framesets the most important items to first get are the best rear and front wheel hubs. The best rear hub is Shimano XT FH-M8010 Rear Hub - 12 x 142mm, Center-Lock, HG 11 MTN, 32H, which on a 26-inch rim is about halfway between the strengths of 36H 27-inch and 700c rims. The best front hub is Shimano 105 HB-R7070 36 hole Front 12 x 100mm Center-Lock Disc Hub although a 32H front hub was manufactured but a 36H front hub on a 26-inch rim would work nicely too.
@dubhghlas9163
@dubhghlas9163 Месяц назад
PS The matching Shimano XT front hub uses a 15 x 100mm thru-axle but the Polyvalent needs a 12 x 100mm thru-axle front hub so the Shimano 105 front hub is a fine substitute.

This makes me want to go from the 18t to 54t on the DT Swiss hubs on my Poly. A quick freewheel or 2 on my louder hubs always seems to cut through and get a response from walkers taking up the whole towpath. Spurcycle bell…. Hardly anybody hears it…. Coming through call…. Nope…. Louder hubs seems to do the trick and also gravel slinging through my wavy fenders has gotten peoples attention to share the trail also sometimes. These 18t hubs are so quiet I have to nearly come to a stop all the time with people on the C&O.

Frankly, I've been underwhelmed by the claims of the tubeless tire crowd. The testing I've seen contradicts the claim that going tubeless leads to greater speed. There is also the problem of knowing when to add sealant since sealant eventually dries out and there's no practical way to see when more sealant is needed.. And If sealant isn't added when needed, the tire can spontaneously lose pressure. And when more and more sealant is added over time, the tire gets heavier and heavier. Frankly, I'm not sure in what conditions riding tubeless provides any real benefit. The problem of punctures is much less of a problem today than in the past. First, people are not trashing the roads as they once did and second, more and more drinks are sold in aluminum or plastic rather than glass with the only the exception of brown glass for beer. So if one wants to really minimize the possibility of a puncture there are two things one can do: 1) Run the widest tire the frame will accept;; 2) Reduce the inflation of the tire. I used to ride with my tires at 120 PSI but in time I was advised to reduce the pressure and started riding at 80 PSI and I was pleased to find that my pedaling effort did not noticeably increase. I'm now riding at 50-60 PSI on 35mm tires. The future for most riders for more trouble-free rides is the TPU tube. There were real problems with the first generation of these tubes but with better valves and slightly thicker walls, they are just as fast as latex but require reinflation much less often. These tubes should become more available as sellers benefit from rider feedback. Finally a positive note. While sealant is a poor substitute for tubes, the advent of TC compatible rims and tires provides a substantial safety benefit. There is an interlock between the tire bead and the rim. In the advent of a puncture, the tire stays affixed to the rim making it far more likely that the rider can avoid a crash. With old style tires and tubes, the tire bead would fall away from the rim and in an extreme case, the tire could come of the rim almost entirely. It is this advantage that has kept the tubular tire in use in racing for long after its performance has been eclipsed by the best wired-on tires.
