Jeez . My zrx1200r did 100,000 miles and was still strong with only maintenance. My MT10 has done 55,000 so far with no problems either. A lot to be said for jap bikes. Would love a super duke 1390 but couldn't put up with potential issues. Ktm don't seem keen to offer remedies either according to lots of other posts.
Recently found your channel, great content. Do you have any recommendations for groups or forums where I could learn more about the 390? Also where are you buying your parts from?
Are you still using the msd ignition coil ? Is it good ? Please share your thoughts. I am planning to go with brisk mor12lgs with msd ignition coil. I have a 2013 duke 390 with powertroics and k&n installed
hey, Can you see the oil level inside the sight glass when the engine is cold? when mine is cold the oil is near the min line and can be only seen when tilted too much to the right. But once the bike is warmed up, the oil is at the max line. But as the engine cools down, the oil level keeps going down.
@@RhoadsChristopher yup. the bike is horizontal when checking the oil level. not on side stand or on paddock. the oil level in the sight glass when cold is almost none but when the engine is warmed up the oi can be seen.
@@charliedoesnotsurf79 oh great. but where does the oil stay then when the engine is cold? With my previous bike even on a cold engine when the bike is horizontal the the sight glass showed oil
Thanks for the info about the head. Mine is a 2014 production year. I have Mivv exhaust and an opened airbox with K&N insert. Then it has a Rapid Bike Easy to eliminate O2 sensor interference with the map and a Booster Plug that should enrich the mixture 7% in open loop mode. No ignition tuning or anything, so I expect around the stock 45bhp peak, but I can report that the low and mid-range torque and responsiveness are way increased and the bike is a lot more enjoyable to ride as it pulls out of the corners as it should.
Glad to see you back! Would love to see your bike on a dyno one day. I have a 2016 with many of the same tweaks and mods you've done, mine made 47bhp which was nice to see but nothing extreme. My 390 has been something of a toy to tweak on for fun and I know it'll never be a big power machine but I'm always looking for more! Have you ever looked into nmwracing? I've had my eye on those 93mm big bore pistons and reworked heads with cams and valvetrain upgrades. Don't know much about the company but nice to see someone out there is doing it.
@padillaxA I have! I've been looking at their stuff and I'm really curious about what springs they are using for that kit. I have a few more things before getting it ready for the dyno. I absolutely have a goal to see what it is making.
@RhoadsChristopher hell yea! Can't wait to see whats in store. Heard several people talk about getting near or hitting the 60hp mark but I've yet to see it, seems a bit ambitious to me but I don't mind being wrong.
Please mention all the fuel linings. Which hose will connect to which. The intake and outlets. Also where the catch can intake and outlet will be connected.
hi, sorry for my bad English, I use a translator. Your timing chain is badly broken because it was damaged on the sides. It has worked its way into the side wall. You should be able to see the marks.
Now that you are online, can you perhaps explain to me how to tension the manual timing chain tensioner? I have it, but I don't know how hard to tension it.
The headgasket and the tensioner are the only ones experienced. This video is made up to capture ALL issues that are deemed as common problems with the bike. A basic rider will likely experience just a handful of these issues, certainly not all of them.
@@RhoadsChristopher certainly the possibility of having some of this issules (like experienced by yourself) really keep me at bay from buying it... I mean, I'd like to make a long trip (not the best bike for that, I know) so don't wanna get stranded somewhere remote. Thx for the review!!
KTM is now part owned by Bajaj. Don't go thinking the current Austrian bikes are much better. I think Pierer Mobility has been pushing cost cutting and maximising expansion, rather than letting the engineers "fix" all the issues that their bikes seem to suffer. In fact, they seem to be reintroducing problems that previous models were supposed to have addressed.
Hey man, curious if you know the manual names for the camshaft support bolts. I’m doing mine this weekend and can’t verify which is which for torque specs. Maybe the camshaft bearing support? Appreciate the help 👍🏽 I’m assuming they’re 10Nm?
I’m working on a 2017 and our manuals are different, obviously haha. I was just using this as a reference video since I know a majority of the engine is relatively the same still.
Did you have to flash "flex fuel install" before the staged flex fuel tune? I'm running in to trouble. The guys at ie say I have to flash true flex install first and then flash my stage 2 true flex. But it keeps erroring out on the "true flex install" file
@@RhoadsChristopher We are building a fs car with ktm 390 duke engine. Its all customised. Could you suggest anything. Also do u have any social where i can get connected to u?
hi bro i got the rc390 2023 and i have an error that says ecu failure and the number of the gear not show up.. when i find the neutral and pull down side stant the bike turn off cause he "dont know" im in neutral.. have you got that problem?
what year modell is this ? I heard modells 2017 and before, is quite bad quality. But I really dont believe everythign you sey in thes video , of this is the newer modell .
Thanks for this super helpful video! I'm not sure if you'll see this but if you do, I'm about to do the first valve check on my 390ADV and have 2 questions: 1. the manual calls for Loctite 5910 on the half moons for the valve cover gasket which is proving difficult to find in the timeline I'm hoping for. Do you have any recommendations for a replacement? 2. I'm trying to get this done before a roughly 1500 mile trip next weekend. How bad is it if I push the valve clearance adjustment 1500 miles past the recommended 9300 mile mark? Thank you for your time!
Howdy, I actually try my best to respond to all comments. For the half moons, I would actually just use some RTV black. A think coat should be all that you need for those. As for the clearance adjustment, I would consider checking to see if they are at least in spec. I have found mine to be out of spec in as little as 6k miles. However, I have heard of people that have just complete forgotten about it. I would hate to go on such a long trip and then have something bad happen. I would also inspect the tensioner as well.
Good question and answer. I’ve got a Norden 901 Expedition and I’m at 11,500 miles and while doing my next oil change and service I found out the valves were to be checked at 9500 miles. So was wondering how bad it was too. I contacted dealer and they moved my appt. because they aren’t sure what and how to do it SO, that makes me nervous and am going to likely take it somewhere else. Anyway, great video and congrats on being mentally strong enough to do this type work. Even though I enjoy working on it and learning I also have zero patience for mistakes and when learning I’m full of those. 😤🤬🤯
@lukefish7562 cheers. I've got it down to about 45-60 mins now so I can usually knock it out pretty quick. The most annoying part is when threads start pulling out of the head.
@@RhoadsChristopher Thanks for the reply. I'm washing the bike today and will start working on it tomorrow. I ask a lot of the bike on most rides so definitely agree that it's wise to check. Parts will be here tomorrow thanks to Rocky Mountain ATV/MC and their fast shipping.
@@RhoadsChristopher What do you mean by threads pulling out of the head? Is this something I should be on the lookout for or something that starts happening after doing the job a few times?
do u think it will work on 2022+ RC390 with quick shifter ? the factory shift lever has tons of plays.... after i change to GP shift the gear lever have hard time rebound after upshift
I am not sure about the stock then part. What I can say is that there have been some notable people that have dyno tuned the effects of TB porting and found a nice increase in power from it. On my end, I found that it leaned out my fuel mixture and had a nice little bump in power.
@@RhoadsChristopheri was thinking about doing a tb port on my duke 200 , i already have a 5bar feul pump motor installed so was thinking to port the tb and then add a d390 injector, whats your opinion? Would this work?
What have been the top mods for the 1st gen duke in your opinion? Currently got a fuelx lite and a 3d printed airbox lid on mine, always looking for more things to change on the bike :)
@@RhoadsChristopher Ha, I know this bcoz I tried on my bike. I have 2016 RC model, I ported my head & everything. Tb doesn’t gain me anything I actually lose some secs, I did dragy 60-120 it was slower with ported tb Even port head doesn’t help that much Only exhaust side yes, in side not much (just clean up) if you port too much it’s lose power too.
@@RhoadsChristopher I tried your air filter setup too It’s not that great to be honest Right now I’m running really modded oem airbox it’s gain me 0.8 sec in 60-120
That is correct. I explain that in one of my other videos there is a block spot in the casting near the water jacket. A flat piece of glass and sand paper should fix it up easy
Which year's model is your Duke 390? The Aliexpress page says it's made for 2018-2022 models and mine is a 2013 model, but yours looks like an older model as well.
