Hi, I'm Drew, I have had model railways for a while; a handed down Hornby tinplate 'O' gauge was my first, then a Tri-ang OO gauge, followed by a stint with a European N gauge layout, and now getting ready to construct a new OO gauge layout based on a fictional town that hosts a mainline station allowing trains of the Southern Railway and Great Western Railway to pass through my main station. In my fictional world rolling stock and locomotives are run until they fall apart, hence I run anything post the Big 4! Eventually the Channel will cover my layout build, reviews and running sessions on rolling stock, and exhibition visits. At present new acquisitions and my existing locos are run and reviewed on my local MRC's (AMRA WA) ex exhibition layout.
Please enjoy, and feel free to comment, subscription is free and will let you know when the a new VLOG has been uploaded.
Cheers Drew Other Channels Drew's Railway World & Drew's Travel World
Thanks John, the new layout and station is very impressive, well done to all those involved, some new loco's and rolling stock added to my collection which I hope to review and run soon on my next visit... and thanks for your comment - Andrew
Thanks for your comment, and your subscription, the layout is a club layout and is housed at the AMRA (WA) club-rooms in Bayswater, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. ...Drew
Like you, I am modelling Southern, and particularly like EMUs and DMUs. Your film here has really inspired me to crack on. One observation though, what are you doing about the third rail? I intend to take some old track and damaged track to bits and add them to layout. However, as yet, I haven't done it as it is such a tiresome and time-consuming job. Will you bother, or leave yours as it is?
Thanks for your comment, your right it's a pain trying to add the 3rd rail, my old club had a layout called Alton , that has got some third rail and it looks good. I have a video on my channel called Alton 2012 which features EMU's, I think I will have a go . ... Drew
Thanks for comment, the layout is called Haltwhistle and is a layout at my local model rail club, used to be an exhibition layout. Not sure which trains look like subway trains, give me a time stamp from the screen and I'il get back to you :) ...Drew
@@DrewsRailwayWorld It could be that they appear to look boxy than slanted in the nose. We had something similar here in the I want to say around 1920's-1940's called Interurban's. They even had some made to handle freight. Interurban's would have connected a series of small poor towns together and take you to the bigger city's.
@@davidballoid2118 Yes, I get what you mean, that frontal design went from the 1920's right through to the late 1930's 4-COR 'Nelsons' (a nickname given to them as one front window displayed the headcode which gave the impression of an eye patch), and to the 1960's flat fronted MK1 style of the 4-CEP and 4-VEP, and then the modernist Class 158's, Desiros, etc. I think the 'Red Rattlers' (set F1) in Sydney have a similar profile. ...Drew
New to British railway modeling.... This is a awesome layout. Would really to build something like this...well station and yard. Is there track plan of station and yard... that I could look at? Thank you Andrew
Thanks for your comment, it shows you can still get a bargain, and a good model too. Be some more for episode 14. Layout sounds great I'll be sure to take a look at your site... Drew
Thanks very much for replying Drew to my comment. Like the work you are doing so l subscribe to your channel to improve mine to get some great ideas. Thanks DD.
Seeing as there's gonna be another one this year... I hope I can make it. Really sucks that the Claremont Showgrounds event got cancelled not once, not twice, but *THRICE.* Especially when COVID regulations have recently softened up. I pray that it doesn't happen next year. I really miss going down to Claremont for that event. It's been a childhood tradition of mine.
Hi Rose, thanks for your comment. You're right it's disappointing, but although restrictions have eased now, back in February, when a decision had to be made it was considered still to risky. I think probably AMRA has 'posponed' this year and will be back in the June long weekend 2023, but that's not official yet, fingers crossed. In the meantime there is a smaller exhibition being held at the Bassendean Rail Heritage Museum on the 5th June this year. ...Drew
Thanks, with prices making the hobby harder to get onto I thought I might do a few Going Loco episodes on older models readily available, and my own recent pre-owned purchases (coming up in Going Loco 12) .... Drew
@@DrewsRailwayWorld totally agree with you on the price thing, companies think if you make something more expensive then people will want it more. Fair play , love the videos👏🏻👍
@@drewsmodelrailwayworld4856Drew thanks very much for replying to my comment. It's nice to see other people's work to get idea to improve my Channel. Take Care and Happy Easter DD.

Thanks for your comment, I don't know whether you got my reply to your previous comment reference the error in the original upload. the message may of got lost due to my changing the status of the original. So I'm sorry If I'm repeating myself, but thank you very much for pointing out the error, I must have watched that VLog in pre-production 15-20 times and never picked up my faux pas. I have now uploaded Episode 7 Mk2!! Whilst I was about it re-edited a few other things I wasn't happy with :) Once again a big thanks to you for bringing it to my attention, cheers Drew
Thanks for your comment and subscribing, much appreciated. I too model Southern, and Great Western. My skills are yet to be tested as still at baseboard stage. Alton was a great layout shown many times at Perth's annual Model Railway Exhibition, it was a culmination of many club members , some on track, some on scenery, some on buildings, and electrics, and the list goes on. The layout got many awards over those years. Sadly the club dispersed in 2016 after we lost our clubrooms and the layout was broken up, parts still exist as members to took them to build into their own layout. The current layouts I use for filming whilst I build my own are Haltwhistle (a past exhibition layout) and Medley a new exhibition DCC layout... Drew
Nice layout, Drew. I live about 4 miles from Alton so get to see the Watercress frequently. I see that the Brewery siding is included: last time I was in Alton the brewery was being demolished for the inevitable housing development so not a trace will be left. I'd be interested to see the actual rail connection to the brewery when it existed as the main line is on a high embankment, if anyone can steer me to info I'd be grateful? Also a small point of interest: the double track heading west of Alton had trains running in both directions on up and down lines, the reason being that they were both actually single tracks, the 'down' line separated off to the Meon Valley just outside Alton and the 'up' line went to and from Winchester. I had it explained (rather in the manner of a tired teacher to a small child!) at a railway exhibition when I questioned the frequent 'wrong line' running on a similar layout at the Winchester end.
Thanks, it was a much exhibited layout by the Southern Railway Modellers Group Western Australia, I was a member and 'web administrator' until it disbanded. The video is a re-mastered version of the original footage taken by myself. Yes we were very proud of the realism from using photos etc., of course some practical inaccuracies are evident. It interesting about the 2 lines leaving the station going west, the club in it's final year modeled a new DCC layout on the Meon Valley branch, it was taken over by another club and you can see videos of it here, it's know known as Medley, but not intended to be an authentic representation as 'Alton' was. I will see what info I can dig up and let you know. ....Drew
Thanks, a couple more in the pipeline, been a bit of a hiatus as I've been preoccupied with a major project on my "Drew's Railway World" channel... Drew
Thanks for your kind comment, I will do my best to keep up the content and I am very grateful to all my viewers, the subscriber numbers are encouraging, so thanks everyone. I think being a relatively new channel it is taking a while to get into the RU-vid algorithm, or maybe it's the way I setup my channel although I also had a slow start with my other rail related channel "Drew's Railway World" which is now enjoying reasonable numbers. ...Drew
Hi, thanks for your comment and subscribing. Haltwhistle is a my local model rail club layout, it used to be an exhibition layout, there are plans to rebuild part of the layout and change to a dual purpose layout (DC/DCC). Lot's of videos in the pipeline, Going Loco Ep5 and a video of a Model Rail Fest we had at our club-rooms last week. Our state AMRA Model Railway Exhibition at the Showgrounds was again cancelled this year due to current health issues. Cheers, thanks again Drew
