I bought a 2017 Silverado LT, so far no issues. The truck like yours has remote start and also has remote window that you can let down when it is hot outside, a great feature when you are getting ready to go somewhere. I will remote start so the A/C comes on ant let the windows down to blow out the hot air, the LTZ and higher has remote windows that go up down and a remote tailgate release! I agree with you on the side mirror's so I am changing mine to "tow" that will have turn signal indicators, heated and remote fold in capability along with a puddle light. I am going to level it so I will lower the back, don't need a truck that sits tall, I don't do any rough terrain driving, I have also added running boards to help getting the drivers seat worn while getting in and out. Thanks for your review on your 2014, I'm sure your next truck will be a great truck.
2 weeks into owning my 14 the trans grenaded at 115k, covered by warranty. now needs a thermostat, still at 115k. hoping for trouble free miles now though! hahaha.
Well it’s a true long term review not a 300 mile review talking about the issues that actually did happen so people looking at them used can be aware of because auto repairs aren’t cheap so even small things can add up. Personally I hate people who do reviews on things where they essentially read a spec sheet because in order to do a true honest review things have to be used not tested.
Thanks, it’s hard to find long term reviews most reviews consider 1k miles long term but they usually get the vehicles on loan so it’s understandable I figured I’d give my experiences to anyone interested
Never had any lifter issues I know it’s a problem with the afm system but I never experienced it I also know someone who disabled his afm and still ended up with lifter issues
2015 Silverado 1500 4X4 5.3 6L80 LT trim double cab (longer bed) here Bought in '17 with 21K as lease return, truck super clean with very inconsequential flaws. Things I did: Immediate tune by 'Diablew' to lose the annoying and lifter killing AFM, better shift points and performance. Bilstein 5100s to level Hellwig sway bars front and back Airaid intake tube to lose that boxy intake McNally catch can Welded plug into transmission pan so I can drain & fill every 2nd or 3rd oil change (gets half the fluid) Superior Solutions TBV (transmission thermostat bypass) STL010 to keep trans temps on the 6L80 lower ~190F to ~145F Rhino Liner bed Undercover Elite LX tonneau cover painted to truck code Added second battery with smart isolator, subwoofer wired to second battery as well as having provisions for jumper cables and 2K inverter via quick disconnect harness. Forward camera (for looking at those stupid posts, added screen in that extra space under dash that you open up. I 'over maintain it' as far as fluids are concerned, but I use my truck and have driven it in some tough environments. It has 96K+ now, and I love it. I know it's weaknesses and am not afraid to fix it.
I have a 2015 v6 double cab with the longer bed its been great i did replace the struts a couple weeks ago but i did overload it once and im at 130k miles besides that oil changes i got her used with 18k mikes.
Unless hauling a trailer for picking up plywood 2x4’s etc they done this so have to use a trailer I know dumb idea better to have an 8 ft better hard to find one now a days of buying a newer vehicle
They’re the same thing with a facelift anyways if you watched I was doing a long term review before selling it and the truck made it 136k miles for me with no major mechanical issues but you enjoy that 2016 it’s literally the same as a 2014 mechanically
Better review than "professionals" did. Few things FYI for you and watchers. All vehicles factory equipped with fog lights, if High Beam is on it automatically turns off the fog lights. Not sure if it's a NATIONAL law/ordinance, but where I live (WY) it's ILLEGAL to drive on public roads with high beam and fog lights at the same time. So that's why the fog lights turn off. The "Auto" on the 4×4 selector locks in your hubs, just like if you put it in 4×4, however it does not engage the transfer case, until the computer on the truck determines your rear wheels are slipping to much then it engages the transfer case and now your in 4×4. Likewise, when it engages the transfer case, it constantly monitors Traction slippage and will eventually disengage the.tramsfer case. In the old days with manual locking hubs, if you thought you might need 4×4, you would lock in your hubs and then when you needed 4×4 you would use the shifter inside and manually engage/disengage the transfer case. It is not recommended to drive 24/7/365 in the manor described above, either "Auto" or "old shool" (manual) as turning radious is reduced (this is why the truck seems to "hop" when on completely dry/non-slipping terrain) and it is hard on the overall 4×4 system.
I have this same truck but my has a bigger cab for six people. It's a two door. I love it. I have had it for over 25 years now. I put a lance camper on it and live in it most of the time. I work too far to drive 2 and from work so it's my home away from home. I'm having problems with to much stearing play at this time but I'm still going to keep her. She has ove 330k now and runs like a champ. I just got to find a fix for that stearing play.
No, i have not dfixed it. drive it at 55 mph max. I also try to drive it during times when there is traffic. For some reason. Towing a trailer helps. I will be putting in a new steering box soon. I have put 2 in from autozone. That did not help. I have also replaced everything that connects to the tires and in that area. The problem is from the steering box to the stearing wheel. Best of luck to you. I will let you know when I get it fixed.
Thanks for the review brother, looking at trading my jeep in for one of these definitely helped selling me on it, hopefully the dealer still has it this week
@@UToutdoorsdo you think buying this year with 120,000 for 11k is a good deal. I know you ended up getting rid of it just wondering if I'm going to run into issues. I live paycheck to paycheck my car was stolen and trying to start a pressure washing business. Thanks
@YoungWise2011 11k seems cheap but if money is an issue buy something older and cheaper that’s easier to work on and have more parts available if you have any issues
My seat folds without a latch sometimes it gets stuck and I have to slide the whole seat forward then backwards slowly and it will fold freely again but if I remember right the extended cab seats had a little lever on the bottom you would pull up should be on the corner closest to the door by the bottom of the fabric
@@mentalreaper8228 usually with these years it is the condensing coil that gets a small pinhole leak the 2014s specifically also had a problem with the suction and liquid lines didn’t get a bracket from the factory and will rattle themselves until the leak
I have a 2014 and My ac went out at about 90k. Now I just got a Code of P06DA. Oil Pressure Cylinoid. its going to cost $2500 to replace my oil pump, oil pressure cylinoid ,and harness for it. Its internal so you have to drop pan, and all the front crank cover. That sucks. it has 123k miles currently.
Awesome this vid is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Nothing too fancy but perfect for re-using old wood and not a lot of time or tools needed! 10/10 broskie !
im a little late but i have one just like this!! its a red one and i inherited it from my grandpa. its not running since i have to change the fuel pump first. is this truck worth the amount of money and work i have to put into the upkeep? and do you think its functional as a daily driver? Thanks again to anyone who replies
Ya I see some ugly ones when I go where to salt the roads but I don’t have to worry about that in SoCal and I know they’re ugly but I like them probably nostalgia my dad had the same year truck when I was growing up
GM product suck big time. GM will not help you with anything. They build shitty products and let their lawyers fix the class action suits. You’ll be sorry!!!
Every manufacturer has bad products and every one of them tries their hardest to get out of class actions suits and none of them help either for me I have had the best luck with gm sounds like you had a bad experience
I mean that’s not to bad still sucks but gm has had a problem with 1/2 ton truck automatics for a long time they just don’t build them strong enough especially with how much they claim you can tow
