As a ~4 yr daily notion user, Ehsan scratched the surface of its capabilities. Formulas, API connections, database relation connections, etc. I fully agree that it can be as simple or as complex as you may (may being the key word) want it to be. It's open world, which works for some, doesn't for others. It's taken a long time for the notion dev team to get the platform to where it is now. Lots of fist-pounding and tears by the community over the years. I've graduated to using Coda and Obsidian for far more functionalities for various reasons but for new doc users, notion is a nice info repository. One thing I'll write about notion. There's many other platforms out there that don't have the same marketing. For new users, check them all out. Anytype, mem, coda, capacities, heptabase, napkin, obsidian, logseq, tana, craft, etc etc. There's a lot of notion evangelists & template sellers that'll convince you that it can do everything. Just a heads up.
Advantage of this tool over Navisworks and Autodesk Docs is AR and model quality check. But Navis and Docs come with AEC collection, so the biggest question is pricing for Revizto, which this guest doesn't know and can't be found on their site without contacting their sales team. If the price is over 1000$ per user, you can instead buy Solibri for quality checks and BIM Collaborate Pro or Build depending of phase of your project. Plus, it's called Revizto and you can't upload .rvt files, but have to export the model? What's with that
when will Autodsek fix the too long path bug that allows out of range manual posting but breaks downloading in Desktop Connector with out of range errors .(verbose path length to satisfy the ego of the originator) My guess is never!! Even making people aware of the problem prompts replies like don't use Desktop Connector. To my mind the fix is a no brainer but from experience it seems that we all have to suffer under the socialist business policy of one big (ego) size fits all. (Dont get me started on autodesk certified BIM managers and do gooders that cause more problems than they fix
I can tall you there is a vast difference between regular subscriptiontin users and enterprise user which use token-flex licenses. I pay 300€ per year for a ACC design Collection licecse against more then 1000€for regular users. Revit itself is at 70€ instead 400.. beside I get additional APS Cloud Credits. With this price policies BIM will never arrive to most Planers. Only large companies can benefit from BIM Tool, smaller companies are out. 😊
I enjoy seeing people sharing screen and jumping onto topic without much planning, I'm so thankful to JMC and all of his contributions to the pyrevit community.
I have never tried but I wonder if a model that has been saved as a cloud model (non-workshared) can be live linked into a workshared cloud model. The hope would be to alleviate the need to use Desktop Connector and its hiccups. My guess is it wouldn't work using the Consumed method of updating models for links. Good stuff as always NC
Thanks for such a great Addin! I would mention that the Print Tool is why I first installed PyRevit a few years ago. Being able to select a sheet schedule to print from and combine my PDF was a game-changer! I don't know why Revit doesn't include that.
Nope, and won't for now. API functions that allow appearance modifications for linked files just came out with Revit 2025. And it might be a bit too much data to process if we were to change colors of specific categories in all Revit links on big projects. But I will keep this one in mind when pyrevit for Revit 2025 will be ready
This is a good idea. The infrastructure for that is not entirely there, a possible workaround, you would have to use the print button on the output top bar to create a pdf and import it back in your Revit sheet.
Microsoft Loop is exiting for about 5 minutes, until you realize it's a lookalike with 0 features. The only cool thing is loop components across the microsoft suite, but even that has its limits. 0 databases, subpages dont show on the parent page ++ Very disappointed and I love Notion even more after I tried to make the switch to Loop. Now we use Microsoft for email, storage and power platform, but Notion for notes, wikis, project management and general knowledge base.
Watching this it made me wonder if Notion is the bridging tool to BIM 2.0 as Martyn Day was writing about. That you have a notion database live with your BIM model allowing you to edit outside the BIM model. Just a thought.
Can you do a video on correct practice for detailing/annotating a Topo solid site. I find that there is an issue with dimensioning sloping gradients. Revit will now dimension lock on the hypotenuse(slope) rather and therefore site information that would be presented in 2D is different to 3D. I.E the steeper the slope of a ramp the difference between 2D and 3D will become larger. There must be a term for this perhaps.
Hello, the masking region of the plan swing shows transparent in the revit model (the plan swing is nested in the main door family but i didnt use the 3d panel for the floor plan) Do you know why is it happening?
It’s important to know that Worksets can be a valuable tool for schedules, and view templates on complex projects, just a note, that using worksets isn’t necessarily a rookie mistake. This is a great video!
Grading involves altering the slope and elevation of the land, which includes leveling, creating swales, and building up or removing earth to prepare the site for construction. It's a broad term that covers many aspects of site preparation to ensure proper drainage and a stable foundation. Excavation, on the other hand, is more specific and refers to the process of digging and removing earth. It is often one of the steps within the grading process, typically done to create foundations, trenches, or other sub-surface structures. So, while excavation is a part of grading, grading is the broader term that includes various activities to prepare a site for building.
We experience that Zoom dark floating windows a lot too. You just need to go to "Zoom client settings > Share screen > Advanced and disable 'Use hardware acceleration to optimize video sharing". Anyway, great video!
The "parti" is architectural school jargon. Definition: "A parti diagram is a simple sketch that communicates the overall concept for a design project."
