Thanks for your comment. Cinema is many things- Sometimes just a way to achieve a look helps but cinema is more about storytelling through a visual medium. Can you think of some ways to characterize cinema- visual or otherwise?

@@pierrezapata90 Well.. there is a lot to discuss on the subject.. I am a licensed DoP and I used to work on 35mm motion picture film back in the day. I see a lot of "cinematic videos" on RU-vid featuring leaves, flowers and grass shot with F1.4... tiny subject in the middle of the shot and 90% background blur and this they call "cinematic". As you brilliantly pointed out, everything in a movie HAS to be motivated, even the F number (or T number, in our case). You never see a nice shot in a movie just because it is nice, but because it has to tell a story. A movie, or a "cinematic video" is a piece of art, that HAS to tell a story and all its parts (including cinematography) must work together to transmit an emotion. Also, as you again pointed out, abusing the use shallow depth of field rules out set designs and complex multi-plane shots (as in Citizen Kane, as you pointed out). Basically, it makes the movie "poorer". You use shallow depth of field when you shoot a close-up and you want to see the deep emotion of that character, or want to transmit the idea of him/her being isolated from the outside world, thinking of something, etc. Or when you shoot an object (like the hand on a phone) and you want all the attention of the viewer to be on that object. There is a lot to tell on this subject... there are years to learn in film school :) By the way.. what do you think about that interview/vlog editing style when there are multiple cameras for 1 just guy and the edit keeps jumping from camera to camera, now you see the person talking to you, next you see him/her talking to a wall?? :))))) OMG

your background music is annoying and doesn't cover up that you are a boring speaker.

Thanks for your input. I can think about different music for future videos as well as work on my speaking patterns. Maybe I'll throw in a shiny object for people with 7 year old attention spans.

How to avoid it in slowmo?
@pierrezapata90
@pierrezapata90 2 месяца назад
In slo mo it's a bit more complicated but the principle is the same. Even professional shows on TV or Netflix I've seen this mistake and the flicker is present. You have to either accept the flicker if it's really high speed with artificial lights or computer monitors and screens or you have to find and use lights whose refresh rates are even multiples with your shutter speed/angle that you are using. In the case of commercials for phones or tablets and things like that, they actually sometimes record the screen separately and then edit into the scene that particular screen. You can sometimes see it if you watch very closely because the edges or contrast looks a tiny bit off, but most people who aren't looking for it would never notice. It also takes a very steady or tripodded off shot to be able to do it well.
@lorenzonarwhal
@lorenzonarwhal 2 месяца назад
@@pierrezapata90 my experience is in fitness content, where the neon of gyms shows flicker when I record some movements in 59 fps (so 1/120). But in some competition indoor I see people doing slowmo but without flickering. I can’t figure out how to do it

@mz8134
@mz8134 4 месяца назад
It may be my controls, but this mic sounds just a tad lower volume than your regular cam/audio expositions. How far away are you from your camera when you speak in your videos? Would you say you'd more likely use these on interviewer and interviewee while panning or fixing an angled video of the interviewee? I'm thinking I could use this set up for workout videos where I can station my film gear a few meters away from the action yet give instructions with good audio without relying on the camera audio pick up. Also, I've seen you capture music in previous videos... If this microphone's captures are indeed muffled or lower volume, would you ever consider recording bass/percussive sounds with it? I don't want to get deep into sound E/Q. I'm just thinking of recording sound while my camera is away from me, is all. Thanks again for the content!
@pierrezapata90
@pierrezapata90 4 месяца назад
The volume can be adjusted with the gain setting. It was only quieter for that reason since it was the first time I had used it but I think the quality is good. I am only a few feet from my camera but with this wireless mic that is basically irrelevant. This mic can be used a football field and a half away from the receiving camera and it will still be right by your mouth clipped to your shirt or holding it in your hand if you want. This will work great for interviews and if you'd like to use them for workouts you could, though idk how much sweat you'd want to be getting on your microphone.

Great video! What sites or places would you recommend where I can get a good deal on a FujiX100V?
@pierrezapata90
@pierrezapata90 4 месяца назад
Ironically, the Fuji X100 VI, which is the newest iteration is technically better and less expensive at the moment because of the shenanigans that went on with the Fuji x100V popularity rise. There are still used ones you can find, or even something like a Fuji XT3 or 4 with a similar 23mm (35mm eq) lens would be about as small a camera setup for less money.

Personally, f4 has been my go-to for most projects. At f5.6, you lose any character that the lens has to offer. f4 gives you sharp focus where you need it and just enough background blur while still retaining lens characteristics.
@pierrezapata90
@pierrezapata90 6 месяцев назад
This is a good observation. I'm sure there is a balance between the character of the lens, as you say, and a relatively good sharpness that will work for most types of shots. Of course focal length and even the sensor size can also change what that relative range will be for your desired look. Thanks for your comment 🙏🏼
