Used love going camping just the dog and I, was the best fishing and astrophotography late at night. Used to take the front seat out on longer trips so my shepherd could spread out on a specially built platform. I think your next investment should be an awning makes life a little easier
Thanks for the comment mate! Yep, agreed. Something therapeutic about being away with just you, your dog and nature. Awning is sitting in our garage ready to be fitted! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Awesome troopy can't wait to see where you go with your build, great to see more kiwi content coming out. Just please don't forget about security for your troopy there are people out there that think they can just take other peoples property I'd hate to hear that your baby has been taken so please keep security in mind. 👍👍👍
Thanks so much mate! Good question, we initially went with an MCC rear bar with factory towbar, but couldn’t bring ourselves to fit it after hearing a few horror stories… have since ordered a Kaymar with dual swing aways (one side Jerry can holder, the other side spare wheel). The Kaymar has an integrated towbar thankfully
I've been camping in my Troopy for a few months. Indeed it is the feeling of complete calm and shelter from the weather that is very nice. We are quite lucky that many campsites are in the narrow valleys out of the wind but from time to time I like to just stop on top of the hill and wake up to watch the early sunrise: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_oeZm2jQO24.html
Great little video. Ive ordered myself a troopy for exactly this and I'm super keen. You guys in NZ have the most amazing scenery! Keen to follow your jouney! Keep it up.
Hey there, the ride is much better than stock! The rear parabolic springs are a bit of an odd one, Dobinson list them as rated for 3” at 400kg, or 4” at 150 kg. We are targeting 3” with our eventual rear setup with fridge etc so here’s hoping!
Wish we could get 70 series here. Id love to buy a brand new troops or crew cab. Tough and simple. I have a Lexus gx460 (Prado 150) that I'm starting to build now. Can't wait to get out and camp
Hello, my name is Alexander. I am from Russia. This car is my dream. I am interested in armrests for LC (like in your video), please tell me where to buy them (web site of the seller). I really enjoy your videos and look them before going to sleep. Please make new ones.
You guys are composing good videos but I personally think some of the shots would be better with some kind of voice over. I do recon you have potential to grow into a full time channel though.
Thanks for the comment! These are our first three videos we have ever produced, so always keen to hear feedback. Part of the way we are trying to film is to not have too much talking or background music. The sounds of camping, tools, the engine etc, for that immersive affect. But will take your advice on board! Cheers
I have slowly been catching up with the channel then this video came out. Loving the build. I’m doing a 79 build on my channel so I’m always looking for inspiration. What were the specs on the wheels? I’m glad you didn’t go for a imitation bead lock. This is a classic look. Were the stedi’s difficult to wire up and have they interfered with the pre-collision system? Keep up the good work. Loving the vids (both camping and updates). From a new sub, Mark from Cairns 👍
Thanks heaps! Always valuable sharing ideas and inspiration. We went with 315/75r16’s on 16x8 wheels. 0 offset front, -50 rear. They’re just plain old Dynamic steel wheels. Also wasn’t a fan of bead locks and didn’t feel that “modern” alloys fitted the troopy style. Preferred and older school look. The pre-collision system was relocated with the ARB (they come with a bracket), so the new grille (genuine Toyota) and the STEDI lights have no impact 👍
Imagine having a whole channel dedicated to an expensive, outdated, slow, uncomfortable garden shed on wheels. Those heaps of sh*t should be $39,990 drive away. But Toyota has conned the sheep into paying $95,000 (!!) for something they designed nearly 40 years ago 😂😂😂 They must be laughing around the boardroom in Osaka.
They can't afford one that's why they are upset and sooky about this haha. There is a reason the landcruiser has been around for as long as it has and hasn't changed much. 👌. I love my 79 and troopys are awesome tourers
Nice guys… Does the NZ LTspec come with diff locks? If so, that would be the perfect spec troopy I reckon. Will just need to solve some rear seats for the future kids!
I also got fed up with the poor low temperature performance of those 220gm cannister stoves, so bought a Coleman 533 "petrol" stove in which I use Shellite as a fuel. It only has a single burner . I bought it online from Australia. The screw on cannisters that contain a mixture of propane and butane work better in low temperatures.
Good to see a new channel, looking forward to more I also overland with my Border collie so also good to see your beautiful girl Travelling along @JL2OFFRD
Hey mate. Nice 78. What wheels and tyres did you put on? Nice upgrade from stock. I got a 76 in December and just starting the process of doing a few things to it. Happy adventures and give Tilly a pat haha
Hey there, thanks for the comment. 3” Dobinson MRR kit, with parabolic rear leaf springs, 315/75r16 Yokohama Geolandar tyres, 16x8 Dynamic steel wheels with -50 rear and 0 front offset.
Awesome mate. Love solo traveling myself. Looking forward to seeing the build. A drone would be great to show what looks like amazing scenery compared to what we get in the north island 👍🏻
The friendship the 2 of you have is so cute and genuine. You're a testiment to When you have a healthy foundation as a couple, it makes the achievement of your goals as a family so much closer! You're both beautiful humans, and I wish the best for your adventures ahead! Have fun! Can't wait to see your next video installment!
A comment about the stove: if you want to get geeky about camp stoves, learn about the Optimus 22 kero stove. Hit me up if you need one, but “I know what I got😏”….
Nice wee trip, doggo seemed to enjoy it. Is that the wee lake that rhymes with Elf? It was our favourite overnighter when we lived in Christchurch. Had a Bongo van, and camping restrictions weren’t the same…our Golden Retriever would jump straight from the van into the lake of a morning. Made for a slightly damp morning coffee.
Hey Tom! For the troopy itself the next big ticket item is an interior fitout (bed, fridge, kitchenette, storage, 12v setup etc In terms of travel plans/trips, we have heaps in the pipeline so keep your eyes peeled 👀 👌
Nice to see you and the build! Always like to see ideas. My build hasn’t started yet, use it basically as a bare work van currently. Plan is to turn it into a mobile workshop/ camper/ safer cargo van with load restraints etc.
