Hello from Edmond Oklahoma I got to spend a month in Fremantle Australia a couple of years ago and fell in love with the troopy. I wish I could have made it to New Zealand while I was there. Just gives me a reason to go back. Can’t wait to see more posts.

We run our troopy as a 5 seater with 2 kids under the age of 5. Painful with a newborn but doable. She's 2 now and he's 5 and they absolutely love the troopy. So don't let kids scare you off owning the car! It's a phenomenal car to get the family out and away with. Good luck guys and enjoy!

@TheTroopyJournal-zl6xv above rear doors toyota can fit the anchor points for child seats. Alot of people install the anchor bars behind the rear seats and I think that takes up way too much room. We went with above the rear door it looks alot cleaner and saves the space in the rear for setups. Just an FYI for when ever you may go down that track hahaha good luck guys keen to see how it all goes!

Nice to see you and the build! Always like to see ideas. My build hasn’t started yet, use it basically as a bare work van currently. Plan is to turn it into a mobile workshop/ camper/ safer cargo van with load restraints etc.

Awesome troopy can't wait to see where you go with your build, great to see more kiwi content coming out. Just please don't forget about security for your troopy there are people out there that think they can just take other peoples property I'd hate to hear that your baby has been taken so please keep security in mind. 👍👍👍

Can’t get new Troopys in Canada, used ones to import must be at least 15 years old. Some people have brought old ones in from Australia but they are always right hand drive in a left hand drive country. If I was younger I would import a 15 year old Troopy from Europe, I see them for sale online in Germany. They are left hand drive. I did a lot of overlanding in my younger days in Australia, Africa several times and once in India. I’ve watched thousands of hours of RU-vidrs travelling the world and the Troopy is the best vehicle in my opinion. Older Land Rovers work well too, especially in Africa where parts are readily available for the older units as Land Rover didn’t change a lot of things for decades and there are out of service vehicles all over the place to poach parts from. The strength and capability of the Troopy and the endless ways to customize them make them the perfect overlanding vehicle in my opinion. Even if all one does is throw a foamy, sleeping bag and sheet, a stove and a 12 volt fridge and some bins for clothes and food in the back, you could live and travel comfortably for months and/or years with a Troopy.

Thanks so much mate! Good question, we initially went with an MCC rear bar with factory towbar, but couldn’t bring ourselves to fit it after hearing a few horror stories… have since ordered a Kaymar with dual swing aways (one side Jerry can holder, the other side spare wheel). The Kaymar has an integrated towbar thankfully

Hey Scott.. You didn't used to have a lifted Hilux did you.. Your faces look familiar..! A couple years ago, soon after my partner bought her Troopie, we were returning to West Coast via Coleridge / Lake Lyndon when we came across a young couple similar to yourselves requiring a tow from a side track.. It had snowed heavily overnight causing clearance issues... My partners Troopie was very stock at the time and was still on the original factory wheels/tyres... We weren't carrying any recovery gear, but they had a snatch strap.. With front and rear diff locks engaged, we managed to free them from where they were hung up after 4x lunges. You say you are looking out for a rear bar with spare wheel swing away.. After a lot of trouble getting a bar out of Australia (Cruiser Company) my partner got onto KRAE (Kaiapoi Repowers And Engineering) to adapt an existing design they had.. KRAE fitted it for her and are now listing that bar in their catalogue. ciao Ian

Nice guys… Does the NZ LTspec come with diff locks? If so, that would be the perfect spec troopy I reckon. Will just need to solve some rear seats for the future kids!
@TheTroopyJournal

Sure does mate! So yep, agreed, the best spec.

Imagine having a whole channel dedicated to an expensive, outdated, slow, uncomfortable garden shed on wheels. Those heaps of sh*t should be $39,990 drive away. But Toyota has conned the sheep into paying $95,000 (!!) for something they designed nearly 40 years ago 😂😂😂 They must be laughing around the boardroom in Osaka.

They can't afford one that's why they are upset and sooky about this haha. There is a reason the landcruiser has been around for as long as it has and hasn't changed much. 👌. I love my 79 and troopys are awesome tourers
