It's telling how so few changes can make a dramatic difference. If you only discipline and tell your child they're wrong, they will protest and act out, and it'll spiral out. This is very similar to what my brother was like as a kid but he wasn't abused nor neglected, as soon as i was bought home from hospital as a baby he threw a matchbox car at my head and that was how he would treat me our entire lives, he'd beat and stand over me every single day, l was literally his punching bag, he is highly controlling and abusive, has a nasty, sadistic hateful streak which was very similar to our uncle so clearly it was a trait that he inherited and got worse as time went on. Not all bad kids have had it bad, some are just born bad.
I notice in the comments people saying "We grew up under these and we ended up ok", but honestly, no I don't think you did. The children of the 60's have many many issues that they passed on to their children.
In the early 90s, I had someone spike our joint with PCP, unknown to us. He thought it would be funny. We were in the backyard and it wasn't long before I thought I was in the jungles of Nam and the VC were closing in. I convinced everyone to go inside and we turned on SNL. The screen became a swirling mess of colors and I everyone was speaking gibberish. I knew then that it was laced. I was able to somewhat snap out of it. I took the guy outside to kick his ass but thankfully I was so scared I would kill him. I called a buddy, who had to get up at 3AM for work and he drive me home where I slept it off. I'm forever grateful for him. I might have served time. I moved away shortly from that town shortly after. I had to get away from the darkness.
I was in the Royal Navy in the 80s and every week we had weekly orders with job opportunities. “ Catch a cold and get paid for it” was the usual stuff.
