Off-Kil·ter, adjective : away from the usual, a bit askew, far-out, curious, eccentric. This channel will focus on Sheepshead fishing techniques that are not what you have seen advertised as “How To Catch Sheepshead”. Come along for the ride as I also target Black Drum, Red Drum, Flounder, Tautog and pretty much anything else that swims. It’s called allowed. Get out there and be somebody!
Hello I live up the neuse and was wondering if you charter at all. Another way to put it is can i come fishing with you and pay you to teach me how to bottom fish for sheeps, black drum, etc..
For a minute I thought you just hired a “Net Man”😂😂😂😂😂…… That’s what my Big Brother used to call me in Charleston Back in the Day fishing under the ports
Hey there “Mr.Off Kilter” , I can’t go fishing like I use to here in Charleston SC, so I depend on your channel to satisfy my appetite….but these long breaks in between your videos is driving me nuts.😂😂😂😂 Still, great stuff man
Dad is setting his hook too hard and quick, so he's ripping the hook/bait out of the sheepshead's mouth before it has fully decided to eat the bait. After you feel a bite, lift up a bit to see if you feel weight, then if you do feel weight, follow through steady to set the hook. This is my advice as someone who has never caught a sheep's head. 😜
Good God boys slaying them.. I'll be in Morehead this weekend i sure hope i can find a spot i can walk to catch a few before heading back to the dirty south waters 😅 I've been binging your content awesome stuff Joseph seems like a cool cat 😎
I live in the Morehead area and i cant seem to get half the bites you do with the same rigs spots and bait and i was wondering what I could be doing wrong
I really couldn't tell you other than it takes time to get good at catching these fish. Once you figure them out, there is not a more fun fishery on planet Earth. Good luck out there!
Mr. O Kilter, love the videos! Inspired me to give it a go. Even bought a new level wind reel for the big Sheeps and Balck Drum. I would like to know if your double hook Carolina rig is your preferred set up? It seems like you use this more often. I made up some small spreaders for below the egg sinker to keep the hooks apart, but keeping both baits together may be your intention. Your thoughts? I thank you kindly for any help and hope to see you out there. Keep em coming!
I use the double hook rig when I have plenty of bait. If I don't have much bait I will use a single hook Carolina rig or a single jawbreaker jig to preserve bait. I like both baits close together but not twisted up. I want that fish to eat both baits if possible and I catch them with both hooks frequently. Good luck out there sir!
Which reel do you like better? I had the fathom 2 lever but traded it up for the fathom 2 Star drag mainly because of surf fishing.. I'm down here near Wrightsville beach area btw
@@brett7794 I prefer the Torium because of how smooth they are. I like using the Fathom for grouper, big drum and amberjack because it has more drag power.
@@brett7794 it is not that simple. I use different hooks for different scenarios. I like 4/0 or 5/0 4X strong Gamakatsu for 2 hook Carolina rigs during the summer. Need heavy line and heavy combo to set hooks with these. 3/0-5/0 jawbreaker jigs work great year round. I use 3/0 owner hooks during the winter for smaller fish. I like mustad hooks also. It really depends on your setup and your style of fishing. Keep experimenting with what works best for you…
We use a system here on the Florida gulf coast in the Panhandle that is highly successful.. We don't have many clams so we use oysters for sheepshead and black drum.
@@offkilterfishing I bet, but like you said it's a good idea if you have alot left over. What's a good hook if not using a jighead? I think I might have better luck with the slip float method
@@offkilterfishing I've only fished fresh water until we moved to Cape Carteret about 4 months ago so I really enjoy your videos. I've learned alot from watching. Thanks for all the advice!
