Howdy Dan! Your weathering is so next level... always enjoy watching your how-to vids. Need to go back and review some of your oil paint weathering techniques. Layout is coming along nicely as well. What industry was that behind where you were showcasing your cars? Also... WE NEED A DEMO OF THE HORN!!! Left us hangin' man... 😂 Good job - thanks for sharing 🤠

Great job weathering those freight cars. I've watched your videos previously and last time I was at Hobby Lobby my wife got me an oil paint set. I really like using oils but you have to get used to the drying times or you will rub it all off. Wonder how I know this, LOL. Cheers from eastern TN

Never seen your channel but nice layout and weathering! As a channel tryna build myself up slowly but trying to be consistently I totally get needing to take time inbetween not making it a chore to add content. I try to make myself railfan at least once a week as I can end up with 100+ miles driven to hot spots for catches and end up getting nothing and feel guilt for not being able to share more. You’ve got a new sub to me and hope your able to continue building up your layout as you said when money and time allows ( I know that very very well))

As a farmer I’m disappointed in your attitude with cornfields. LOL! Great video Dan! I live next to a CSX mainline and have wanted to get a train horn to blow as train pass by. Maybe even wake up some M of W guys that I know. Make sure and put some gas stabilizer in the compressor so it will start after setting for an extended period. Take care!

The layout looks great. Have you considered a upper deck? UTLX Tank cars like #631645 and 630133 could be built from Walthers 16,000 Funnel Flows. UTLX 125683 can be modified from a Athearn 13,000 acid car. The ETCX Tanker #84009 will take some time to build. Very interesting tank body. You got to have some bulkheads like TTPX 805212. Rebar and steel plate loads are interesting too. Especially loads that are wrapped with plastic tarps.

A video on how you make the hatches for covered hoppers would be great! It's a real pain that Tangent haven't had them in stock for well over a year and Intermountain keep pumping out cars with ribbed hatches (and refuse to sell parts).

No need to apologize for not making as many videos. If you force yourself to do it just for us, it turns into a chore and you'll burn out. Your videos are appreciated as gifts to the community -- you don't owe us anything.

this weathering jobs are incredible!!!! i am a follower since the early stages of your layout and your work amazes me ALL THE TIME. is there any chance you would do a modern-loco weathering-video? i loves the SD45 videos, but a UP GEVO; an SD70M or something like that would also be great, i would love to learn some oily-effects on modern subtle lightly weathered locos...

Hey Dan great tank cars, don’t know if you heard of it but there’s a tape out there that’s called fine line. You can get it in different width. You put that down first and then you put your blue tape on over it or under it and use that as your edge, and there is no touchups to be done been using it for years I’ve painted for a long time so has a friend of mine who introduced me to it.

Hardware stores carry steel rod in different sizes. They could easily be cut with a hacksaw and glued into the void in the spines. ACE Hardware is my favorite supplier for materials like that.

Hi Dan.Could you find styrene tubing of the same diameter and build new bodies and put the ends on?Another way of doing it is to put the original body in a mini lathe and turn down the raised sections. But,that would be the expensive way of doing that.(Buying a mini lathe).Just my thoughts.

Nicely built cars. A couple of comments: The “hatch” is actually a “protective housing”. Believe the DOT hazmat regulations limit these cars to a maximum of 90 tons of Chlorine; therefore the Load Limit stencil should be “180000 pounds”. The AAR Tank Car Specifications (MSRP M-1002) require that when a car’s LD LT is reduced for any reason, the stenciling must be followed by a 5-pointed star. Not sure if that is shown on the prototype cars. Some good information on contemporary tank cars is contained in the AAR/Bureau of Explosives Field Guide to Tank Cars, 4th Edition, available on line.
