Wow- superb video of amazing weathered freight cars. I love the Rail Box repaints - the graffiti looks just like the real things when they get grimed in and maybe faded a bit. All your extra hard work really paid off with outstanding results. Definitely the tops! Thanks so much for sharing your techniques in your inspirational videos. Have a great holiday and New Years.
This is real artistry. I see cars like yours pass through NW Indiana on the NS mains all of the time. Did either of the RAILBOX cars start with cast grab irons like the old Roundhouse models ?
Love it Dan. The mesh tarping on top of those CIGX cars would be the icing on the cake. Theyre technically not supposed to be released by the customer until they are tarped. Weve been handling more and more of the HIRX ones now as well.
I really like the Soo and the Railbox cars. I agree on the Prime for Grime issue. I'm not buying any more Athearn Prime for Grime; in fact earlier this year I cancelled my pre-order of the SD60M CBFX (CIT) coz when I saw pics of the actual model posted, the BN green (supposedly 'faded') was sooooo far off the prototype, the loco would need a complete repaint. Fortunately OVR had the previous run of BN SD60Ms so I got one of those and CIT decals (from CMR and Circus City).
Dan, Great work! Love it! Two questions for you. First, after you use oil paints and let it dry, do you seal the car with dull coat or other matt medium before proceeding? Second, how do you paint the kickup spray inside the cages on the ends of hopper cars? Do you use a fine brush to navigate your way around the ladders and end cages? Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thank you for this update Dan! I just want to say that you were an example and inspiration for me during these years and, we as railroad modelers, are very lucky to have you as part of our community. Personally you are an example for me as over the years I've been stunned by how realistic and thought-out your models are and how good your technique is and STILL you strive for more realism and higher and higher quality which is truly inspiring. I am happy that I have this bubble on the internet where I get to see stunning models. I wish that one day I could buy entire sets of freight cars crafted by you. I wish 2024 will be even more awesome and fun for you as 2023 has been, happy holidays with your family and friends and overall I wish you an amazing end of the year celebrations. Cheers and congrats from Dracula's real land, Romania, Europe. Regards, Stefan
Merry Christmas Dan. I always enjoy your videos and it’s inspired me to take a stab at weathering. Now I’m going to have a hard time not weathering something. Thanks Dan. 😂
Hi Dan.I've learned a lot from you with your weathering.Very inspiring.Have you ever done a pod cast with other modelers? That would be great to see. Also,The RB BOBBY artist.I see his work all over hoppers and gondolas over here in connecticut.Keep up the great work and have a nice christmas.
Great video. I still don’t understand how you get your graffiti to look so good. I’ve tried and tried again to get a nice looking graffiti tag and it looks like a chunky mess. If you have a tips on how to fix that let me know.
