Production and distribution of both Onkyo and Pioneer is handled by Voxx and Sharp. They may come from the same factories and share R&D. Each brand, however, is tuned to its brand specific sound. They also differ in connections and DAC selections. So, they are not exactly the same as folks might think.
Very interesting video, thanks for sharing your honest opinion with us! Did you also take care of the 30 degrees elevation angle which auro-3d asks for? I am just about to install my first surround system. Supposed as a 5.1.4 with top heights and rears. But now I noticed I can not held the 30 degrees angle from auro due to my room conditions if I want to put them over my floor standing speakers.. I am thinking now to still place the top heights above the left / right channel but add the third layer with a Voice of God to compensate for the missing 30 degree angle of Auro. What u think could that work? 😊
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qK-3ygCFw9g.html I discuss the height channel angles in this video and provide the angles for my height speakers. If you do front heights above the front speakers and do side surrounds heights plus the VOG that is ideal auro-3D setup.
@@magnoliamo thank you so much, watching your other Videos now🤘 So you think it will work even if I have only a 15 degrees angle at my front heights + having the Voice of God in a 3rd layer?
Thanks. While I haven’t used the opening scene in “movies with extreme bass” series, I did do a couple of shorts with that scene. Here is one of them: ru-vid.comXrNXWNjkwnA?si=dThgGn30b_YBCSY7
Hi mo is a wider placement better? The distance from my front right and left is 10 ft apart is this too much ? Before they was 6 ft apart but decided to experiment
For front left and right, it’s more about the angles than the distance between the speakers. I try to use an angle between 22 degrees and 30 degrees from the main listening position. I found with electrostatic speakers it’s better to have a 1 to 1 ration, if fronts are 10 feet apart then you sit 10 feet from the front and left. You should experiment and find the widest angle where the sound stage is the deepest with the voice anchored in between. Try listening to familiar music and then adjust the distance where the voice just floats between the speakers with a wide front stage.
Glad to see you trying out my suggestion. Tighter bass is definitely one of the benefits and is probably most noticeable in surround and immersive content. The other benefit is probably somewhat less noticeable with surround content and more applicable in 2-channel. (It does have the same benefit in surround, its just harder to isolate the effect because so much is going on) I recommend listening to some 2-channel music or content you know really well to listen for additional changes.
For the multieq filter frequency range should I limit the subwoofer? I came across a video someone suggesting bringing it down from 250hz to 20hz so audyssey doesn’t “kill” the bass. Is this true at all?
@@Squishmallows24 Great question. You would only limit if you have used mini DSP or some other parametric eq to eq your sub or subs. If you haven’t already calibrated your subs then I don’t recommend limiting the audyssey freq range for your subs. By limiting you are defeating one of best features of Audyssey MultEQ XT which is subwoofer calibration. I say you try it out. Try limiting and if you find the bass to be more boomy and less focused or not as tight then let Audyssey do the full sub calibration.
@@magnoliamo thank you for replying. This has kinda been driving me crazy for a few weeks lol. The person that made the video about it never replied or even explained why he limited the subwoofer to 20hz from 250hz. Keeping the subs at the same db level and at the same master volume I felt like limiting the sub to 20hz the bass was less boomy. At 250hz there was more noticeable boom. Just one quick question if you can help. Does limiting the sub to 20hz in the app, will that still keep the 80 crossover I have set to all my speakers? Thank you!
This movie seems to be extremely divisive. While I'm not sure if most of the negativity comes from people expecting the film to be something it's not (seems to be a huge reason though), I understood that it wasn't a film that was there to answer questions for you about the war itself. Personally, I really enjoyed the film. In any event, I watched the stream of this with Atmos, and while generally I find streaming audio very lacking compared to the UHD, I was absolutely blown away by the audio with this film. Even with the streaming quality audio, it has by far one of the most realistic Atmos mixes I have ever heard, and I have a huge collection of movies that many consider "reference quality" for sound. After viewing it, I said if there's one thing reviewers will absolutely agree on regarding this film, it will be the audio, and that it will be the film this year to beat in that regard. I was actually expecting the audio to be good (surround wise) before watching it, but when that "sound check" at the start happened, I knew I was in for something special. If they were going to actually include something like that, then they absolutely want you to have the most accurate setup for the mix. Needless to say, my expectations were greatly surpassed. Now that the reviews of the disc are finally starting to appear, that seems to be the case. Even if you aren't sure about the film itself, if you care about audio and have a competent Atmos setup, get the disc next week when it is released. Your ears will thank you. edit: Haha. I just got to the end where you scored the audio. It's the first film that I personally gave a 10/10 to for the bedlayer as well, but even though it might not have taken full advantage of the Atmos speakers, I still have to give the overall audio experience a 10/10. It still used the tops and heights in such a way that gave the overall presentation a very natural and realistic sound, and I haven't heard another film yet that put those speakers to such good use.
@@Neonmirrorblack Thanks for detailed comment about this movie. I agree with your assessment about the movie. It’s people expecting the film to be something it’s not. I also enjoyed the movie myself. I was rewatching some scenes again today. Atmos is extremely well done outside of the minor gripes that I had. I will be buying the disc when it comes out. Thanks for the comment!
I am sorry you feel that way. You didn’t find a single video helpful? None of the product reviews, movie reviews, how to videos, etc were of help to you? I am a fan of Audioholics. I have learned and continue to learn a lot from Gene at Audioholics. Someday, maybe not today, or tomorrow, or even this year, but someday I hope to change your mind.
I bought mine with the 48 volt power supply, which was a very good upgrade for my power requirements. The big downside of that upgrade is a much higher operating (and idle) temperature of the amplifier. The temperature was quite alarming to the touch. I went ahead and drilled numerous holes in the case, which helped a bit. I now have it sitting on top of an old laptop fan cooler, which keeps it very cool. It's my only gripe with the unit. Sound is crystal clear using the RCA input.
@@justinschlicher631 thanks for the feedback. I heard the same about the temperature from the 48 volt power supply. I agree the sound is stellar thus far. Even with the 32 volt power supply it has very good output.
No fan of Fosi so if you're not paying attention a whole bunch of kickstarters are getting jerked around concerning the V3 Mono, no joke and no hyperbole. Fosi not giving the community any answers. Many posts on the kickstarter page over several weeks with zero answer from the company.
@@vanderhoff66fu To clarify, for this video, I only ran the Dolby Atmos Enabled Upfiring speakers. All other height speakers were disconnected. It was just 7.2.2 with the upfiring speakers. All the demos were done after running Audyssey MultEQ XT32 with 7.2.2. Thanks for the comment.
I did the bouncy house for a bit, when I was starting out. Didn't care for them with slightly vaulted ceilings.... I prefer direct sound. So I did the 4 svs elevations mounted high on my walls. Much better Atmos! Super easy install.
Thank you for you help and I’ll give it a try but the Umik mic is very expensive here in Australia ( over $200) so I’ll have to save up. When I get one and try out REW I’ll let you know how I get on. I only have my trusty old analogue Radio Shack sound level meter just now.
Yes. Hello Sir, need your valuable suggestion.im using denon1700h amplifier. Kefq650 is the centre. Polk t50 is the front left and right. Polk t 15 is the surround.current crossover is set all to 80hz. Dialogues are not very clear. It sounds boomy. What crossover should i put for these to get clear audio output and dialogue clarity
The Kef Q650 have a steep rolloff after 80hz so 80hz is the lowest you should go for crossover. If you are using audyssey then it should correct the boomy-ness. Where is the center located?
@@magnoliamo my thought was to give crossover like this.. Will this be ok? front left polk t 50(Total Frequency Response 38 Hz → 24,000 Hz) : 80HZ Front right polk t 50((Total Frequency Response 38 Hz → 24,000 Hz) : 80HZ Centre q650(Frequency Response (64Hz - 28kHz : 90HZ Surround polk t 15(Frequency Response. 45 Hz → 24,000 Hz) : 110HZ LFE+MAIN LPF LFE : 120HZ Any changes required?
My first SVS sub was the PB NSD-12 and ut changed my life (obviously in terms if subs) but had to sell it. Some time later I got the SB-1000. It did not have the overall presence or pressure but was still a very satisfying experience with tight articulate bass. I currently have the SB-2000. I should note that I had 4 subs in my setup prior to the SB-2000 so it's not as loud as what I had but it is certainly more accurate and linear. Saving up for a second one to reap the benefits of dual subs. Thanks for your review and take good care.
Nice review and you have a great home theater setup, I don't have atmos speakers but I will buy the physical release next month before watching it, I ordered a new TV so this movie should look great !!!!! Cheers.
@@magnoliamo what I do use are 2 pairs of the flagship models of the Aperion supertweeters, what a fantastic addition to my setup and worth every cent.
Currently I have a 5.1.2 setup. My height channel is in ceiling between my seat and front speaker. I'm thinking to upgrade to 5.1.4 soon but in dilemmas whether it can be done and whether i can get good result. I still have space between my seat and wall approximately 1.5 feet. If I install 2 more height channel behind me, the height channel more or less align with my surround. Should I choose hybrid height channel with top front and top middle (back) or 4 height channel in ceiling ?
Thank you for the question. Checkout this video that I did on angles related to the height speakers. On Marantz and Denon you cannot select top fronts and top middle in a 4 height speaker setup. It needs to be Top Fronts and Top Rears, or Front and Rear height. I would check to see if you can do Top front and Rear Heights. Just add height speakers to the rear wall.
@@magnoliamo Thank you for your kind reply. I'm thinking to upgrade to Denon AVC3700 and maybe I will choose a top rear and front height because of the room size constraint.
Thanks. I’m going to try this technique. What would be the benefit of this as opposed to using the audyssey recommended 7th and 8th positions which are behind the MLP.
I dont want to say and bias your expectations. I'm curious as to what your assessment would be. There IS a specific benefit but as I said, I dont want to bias your expectation.
I just ran oca’s A1 Evo script I can’t wait to listen to this later. I have a 7.1.4 theater with 4 subs MiniDSP managed and 4 height speakers. Thanks for the reminder on this disc.
I used a previous Audyssey calibration file (.ady) from my AVR transferred via the Audyssey app to my pc. I ran through some of my demo files like THE ACCOUNTANT the practice shots at the farm. Wow! Better than Audyssey One script. A1 Evo is a superior script/program.
With the 702 S2 I ended up with the HTM71 S3. Checkout my last home theater tour video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D2b7M_YeGQg.htmlsi=TTCjewdmdu6OQUkx
Yes 100% will match the 702 Signature. I used to have the 702 S2. Not the same caliber as the Signature but the HTM71 S3 matched really well with the 702’s.
What was your master volume? And how much of a house curve do you run? I'm asking because I wanna try and figure out how close my in-room system can get to your experience, and my max at 20 Hz is roughly 95dB at present.
The volume on the Marantz AV8805A was at my normal listening level. -10db on the reference scale for Leave the World Behind due to streaming volume. The volume for Dune2, I kept at -13db. I got scared and didn’t want to blow the SB3000. I was comfortable with increasing more on the SB16 ultra but held back because didn’t want to overdrive the SB3000. I don’t use a house curve per se. I used REW to optimize the bass response by aligning the subs to the front speakers using crossovers and distance compensation. You can checkout what I did in this video below. @@magnoliamo, I can go to -15, though that's not flat to 20, but has a gradual roll-off starting around 40 Hz. Down around -6 dB at 20, so it's not excessive. I'm running a slightly unorthodox four 10" wall-mounted subwoofers. They are each in 20 liter enclosures, wired in parallel two-by-two on the wall diagonally across the seating area. Powered by a two-channel Icepower amp with 250W per channel. I could go to 400W to max out their power handling, but that wouldn't probably give me a lot of extra output. They don't really have the output needed for my total 3000 cu.ft. leaky air volume, but for what they take up in space they do an absolutely stellar job for how loud I can listen.
@bigjack79 I have an SVS SB16 ultra (sealed) in the front of the room and the SVS SB3000 (sealed) in the back of the room. They handled the movie really well. For the bass test I didn’t want to get carried away and turn on the volume lol.
@@magnoliamo it was loud, accurate, controlled, and went really deep. It replaced a def tech 15" 550w rms that finally blew a filter cap. The svs is much higher quality bass. My room is medium sized but open to kitchen, living room, and hall.

Great question. Comparing the Sony Core PureStream in IMAX Enhanced and IMAX DTS to the ApplyTV Dolby Vision And Dolby Atmos, I find the IMAX Enhanced picture to be in line the 4K Blu-ray. While AppleTV sound needs to be bumped up by 6 to 7 dBs, the IMAX DTS audio is more dynamic and less compressed.
