This is my first video on REW. In this video I review the step by step process of getting smoother bass using REW and your receiver.

Thanks my bro for the time your spend in every of your videos , I really appreciate it . could you tell me please how I know the measurements are good? the graphic has to be plain with no down lines ?? is that the real deal ??

That is a great question. You can have a flat response or you can have a curve that is stronger in the sub-bass region with a gradual slope. Typically, you will have peaks and dips along the way. It is preferable to not have peaks and nulls that are more than 5 db. Every room is different and the room always plays into the response. The challenge is to get a flat response. Without room acoustics and bass traps it is difficult to accomplish that. Additionally, in my video I didn’t use excessive smoothing to hide the issues. I wanted to address the issues using REW. You see these charts from others who use 1/6 smoothing or psychoacoustic smoothing that don’t show you the dips and peaks. That’s misleading in my opinion.

Dirac live bass Control does all this for you and it's automated. After you get the subs where you want them it. It will time align each sub and allow you to set the optimum cross over down to the single digit. Your next receiver or preamp upgrade you should Def. Consider one that has Dirac live.

That is the plan. Thank you for the comment.

Hey thanks for the video I tried to follow your setup. My sub doesn't have a app and I was wondering when you level matched the subs and set them to 77.5db did you use the avr to increase or decrease the volume or did you use the app?
@magnoliamo
@magnoliamo 8 месяцев назад
Yes. I used the app to adjust the volume on the subs. If you don’t have an app then it’s ok. Just use the volume knob on the sub to level it. The AVR should be at 0 db for the sub volume. The speakers should also start at 0 db on the AVR. You level match the speakers using the AVR but level match the subs using the sub volume. Once you run your room eq the AVR will adjust accordingly. After running the room eq don’t touch the volume on the subs. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for the comment.

Well, my guess is if you had tried a 70 hz crossover for your mains things would have improved even more. I did look up the specs on your front mains and I would immediately be trying various crossovers between 70 hz to 80 hz, which agrees with my above observation / comment. Give it a try and let us all know how it went 👍

Thanks. I ran the REW sweeps for L+R+Sub using 80hz, 60hz, and 40hz crossover. 80 and 60hz were almost the same but both had a 10db loss in output between 50 and 60hz. 40hz got rid of that dip and added more extension down to 15hz. Marantz doesn't have an option for 70hz. It's either 60hz or 80hz. That's the reason why went with 40hz. I have updated my crossover to 60hz now and will deal with the dip between 50-60hz.

What is that small microphone stand you're using? That would work so much better than the full size Amazon mic stand I'm using now.

That came with the Anthem Perfect Bass Kit for my MartinLogan BalancedForce 212 Subwoofer. It has been great for measurements.

Thanks for the video. How do you set the delay to the subwoofers to get the best response before switching to Audyssey? The SVS app does not have a Delay. Before Dirac since it uses REW I would opt for Audyssey Multeq-x (200 dollars). It has more power than X32 and is more configurable than Dirac. Can you put the REW .mdat file of your L and R channels + Subwoofers?. It is simple curiosity to see the acoustics of the room in parameters such as RT60, Waterfall, Spectrogram, etc. Written with translator Greetings

Thanks for the comment. You set the delay after running audyssey or other room eq. I walk through that in the video. After eq is run then you fine tune the delays in the receiver/processor. Once all trims and delays are finalized you will need to enter the numbers in the MultEQ app and resend the calibrated settings to your processor. I will try to add the mdat files here.

I just posted the RTA60 and Spectogram pics in a public post on my channel. Please review and let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

@@magnoliamo I use a source computer and I use Equalizer APO on my 5.1 and put the delays on it. On the AVR Onkyo I only put the speaker cutout. If I were you, having several subwoofers, I would try to have the best response in frequencies by also playing with the delays before passing through Audyssey, but I think that it does not have a minidsp or even Multeq-x to put individual delays on each subwoofer and thus have the best possible response before to pass the automatic calibration. A pity that SVS does not have a delay in its application. If you can put your .mdat file Do you know this way to align the subwoofers with REW? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8bwpLfbLiZ4.html Another way to align several subwoofers is the one recommended by Arendal arendalsound.com/guide/how-to-time-alignment-between-speakers-and-subwoofer/

@@magnoliamo When it goes well, it will put the .mdat file As long as you put enough LCR + Subwoofers. In other videos can you talk about the acoustic treatment of your room? Written with translator Greetings

@@JuanJose-wt5yj thanks. I talked about the acoustic treatment in the room in this video below. I have the mdat files but could post them in the reply here on RU-vid. I’ll try again from my computer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rbsZxfkMHPQ.htmlsi=vl87RA8t6pUk4Pgm

Hi, im a regular viewer of your contents and the way you explain things is super.i have a query. Im using denon 4700h auro 3d with klipsch speakers.Im using multiple subs.In the settings its shown lfe+main with 120hz.im having boomy bass instead of tight bass. So should i change it to just lfe or can you suggest what should i do to get tight bass. Im using 2 klipsch 12 inch sub.
@magnoliamo
@magnoliamo 9 месяцев назад
Thank you for kind words and the question. You should definitely turn off the LFE+Main feature. That’s directing all the bass to your fronts and the subs. I am not sure where your subs are located. Corner placement will lead to boomy bass. Try repositioning the subs if are can. 2/3 of the way from side walls. Again, if you can. Finally, try playing around with the crossover settings. Which Klipsch speakers and subs do you have, i.e., models?
