Um, updates for the software? I haven't resubscribed to their service. I still have the version I paid for, but I seldom use it. After a lot of experimentation I find I'm better off all around purchasing Blu-ray versions. Artificial Intelligence may improve, but I personally don't have time to play with these things. I will want to enhance a couple movies that could use more grain. Otherwise, I'm putting my money into replacing DVDs with Blu-ray disks.

It's not soldered to the board. Technically you're right. But Apple would tell you it's not upgradable. Also, you'll have to find a compatible CPU. The unit came with 6GB of RAM and now has 64GB. That's something else that needs to be changed. An adapter has to be purchased to add an Sata SSD. The internal memory for storage was 256GB. But between the SSD and the NVMe SSD the OS now runs on this has together make up 2TB. Only the graphics cards couldn't be changed as the component that's in there is soldered to the motherboard.
I didn't notice any temperature issues. The CPU runs at the right number of watts. So it shouldn't heat any more than the intel i5 that was originally in there.

To anyone trying this..... The little microphone ribbon cable which covered the tamper evident screw on the logic board has a tiny latch at the front which should be released before ripping the connector out. The alligator type latches on the power supply cables under the edge of logic board and chassis are easily depressed with fingers rather than metal tweezers. I'd recommend 'walking' the remaining cable connectors out with plastic spudgers rather than yanking them clear with tweezers or fingers. Take your time. You can do no end of damage if your metal tweezers slip.

Yeah, just so you know I've saved them as favorites so I can keep track of their price. If a sale comes up I may get them sooner. I'm building a setup in my home to study and earn money. So who knows. When I buy anything on DVD or Blu ray I scan the covers the same day and upload them.
As an owner of one such piece of crap, I can only say it ist the worst computer I have ever known. I went and bought another Apple with 32Gb Ram second hand 12 years old now and a beauty. But this one is DREADFUL. Don't go near it. This is a good video but the difficulty of upgrade should be well clear to you.
I agree 100%. Apple should feel ashamed. But the general standards companies are following puts this piece of crap into the average and not some exceptional category. I was just watching a video that shamed kids for getting into debt for a college degree. There are so many scams. When the foundation of society is whittled away there is no solid ground. There is no reliability/integrity. In which case, those who don't have unlimited means have to find solutions similar to scratching their hose with their left foot. The work arounds are uncomfortable and even painful at times. All I wanted was the operating system from the iMac. I thought I could make a hackintosh as the term was coined. I asked for the least expensive model which was about 2,500$ with apple care. This is compatible with my audio recording equipment from Universal Audio. But because it was so underpowered it wasn't up to specifications and I had to make the difficult decision to upgrade what would have been a paperweight. I used Apple computers at school. They were fraught with bugs and ran slow. They had limited compatibility with software solutions as well as hardware. I wasn't keen on making this purchase for that reason. And to say I was disappointed would be an understatement considering the work involved in upgrading it, the fear it inspired, and the financial cost. Anyway, thanks very much for your comment. I hope anyone considering buying from Apple thinks twice. And maybe this video I've produced can be a warning.
Great mod even for windows to play gta5/6, given connected to a thunderbolt gpu. Saved you an Xbox series x at least and u can still make the most of the gpu for vid editing. Good Job.
It began when I received money and decided I wanted audio recording equipment such as the Universal Apollo X8P. There was a lot of traveling to the city to get the components and a lot of research online before I made my choice. I knew before hand that a PC wouldn't work well with the audio interface and the purchase of an iMac or at least a hackintosh build would be necessary. I walked for 4 hours in an ice storm to get the iMac. When I tried playing RU-vid videos on it in 4K I found that my 2,500$ investment was not more performant that a regular laptop from a few years back. I also realized that it wasn't going to meet the requirements of the audio interface. I had something like a paperweight on my hands. The following three months were dedicated to finding out if and how I could upgrade the iMac. I found the parts, some general instructions, and took a chance. What you see in this video is also the product of prior experience with building PCs. I was prohibited from having a job or going to school as I was on disability support. I saved up everything I could for about a year towards my first build. It was my first, and it was nerve racking. I've built other PCs since. But the iMac upgrade was particularly daunting because it's not meant to be opened. And there was no guarantee the parts I bought would be compatible or be functional. My Apple care and warranty would have been void and I paid an extra 200$ for that. I don't like Apple as a company. It's not fun getting a low end product for such a cost, then having to face the possibility of destroying it by simply attempting to make it perform at the level of a modern PC. So that's my story.

Hi, and merry Christmas. I want to direct you to the comments I put myself under my video. You should be able to upgrade to an i9 intel CPU with the characteristics of the CPU I used. Just check under my video. So this is my iMac's upgrade! The specs: From an i5 3.0GHz 65W Intel CPU to an i9 3.6GHz 95W Intel CPU From 8GB of RAM to 64GB of RAM From 256GB of file space to 2TB of file space| If the pins match, and the CPU doesn't demand too much power, then you should be fine. Mind you, I'm not an Apple expert. So do your research and don't cut corners.
My pleasure!!! It's from a VHS that was packed in with my mom's serger. I was impressed by the presentation and thought it deserved to be formatted for DVD. I was able to get both the English and French language tracks as the French video followed the English one. I made menus and included a PDF version of the manual. But then my mom said she preferred to watch it on RU-vid, which is what motivated me to add all the time stamps. I'm glad this is useful to everyone that finds it. Yeah, there are many reasons why you can't tell the difference. For one, I was using a computer with very standard resolution and recording what appeared on screen. Another reason is RU-vid's formatting of video. You may also be viewing the video on a lower resolution screen or a smaller sized screen. There are many obstacles to my being able to show the audience the difference between the pirated Chinese copies and legitimate copies. At least you've been warned.
Hmm, interesting. Well, I'm using Unity for it's 3D component. I want to finish this project, and what I learn from it will go into my Super Mario Maker 3D game. If you'd like, I can give you the sprites so you can make that yourself. I have recreated these graphics in Adobe Illustrator pixel by pixel. So they exist already as svg and ai files. But you can easily turn them into png if you prefer. To you watching this... I have no formal training in programming. I'm learning as I go. These visuals are all my recreations. While they're based on the game titled "The Legend of Zelda" for the Nintendo, there is no guide to make 3D meshes as sprites dynamically for a Unity Game. So, not the conventional application or workflow for Unity which is the game engine. Because it's 3D, I'm limited in how I can draw graphics. And I want to make something like SVG (scalable vector graphics), which is why I've resorted to using 3D meshes. They have two arrays which one would be for the vector points in 3D space (x, y, z) and an array of triangles which refer to the first array of points to make them. This requires much less file space, which makes caching them in RAM a good idea (1kb / image) and they look good no matter how they're scaled. Big or small, zoomed in or out, they'll retain the same image quality. Which means, if displayed on a 4K screen they'll look just as clean. The major drawback is having all the meshes and filters that create them. Which can be taxing to the CPU (central processing unit / computer's brain) or the GPU (graphic processing unit). There are ways to optimize but I'm focused on getting this to simply work at the moment. Will do more to make this efficient in the near future.

Hi @jonasbove, I'm recreating a few NES games of old. This is going to be "The Legend of Zelda" with some additional features and functions. Zelda will be playable too. I'm programming this using 3D meshes which are created dynamically. So, from code, not external mesh files. The way this works should be like Mario Maker. Which is why you may see similarities even at this early stage. So for now, the world building tools are what I'm focused on. Later I'll make a functional game, followed by the development of a music maker and sprite creation tool. That's the plan. I want to explain also what this is all about. Like most young men I was in wonderment of video games. As an artist I saw the possibility of generating an interactive piece. It's been my dream from a very young age to make a complete game from scratch. I would design my own characters but at this point I need to better understand programming. Which is why I decided to work on Mario, Zelda and Pac Man. On a personal note, I'm legally considered an invalid. Despite this, I've pushed back, and proven that I'm physically and mentally capable. I've spent entire days walking... so about 10 hours. I've taught myself to cut own own hair, do renovations, bake and cook, organize and clean, build PCs, back-up thousands of movies and upscale them, graphic work, 3D modeling, rigging and animation and texturing. I've performed basic repairs on my oven and washing machine. I've altered a guitar case to fit a Fender acoustic bass. I've also taken apart a brand new iMac to change out inferior components which made having a performant model possible at a low cost. And all of these things are showcased on this channel. I've worked as an illustrator on contract, and while in high school I completed two years in one of my education along with being part of the choir and being a member of a group against violence in the city. I learned photo journalism and was published. So despite all of this, and more, I'm labeled "invalid". It's an injustice, and all I've done will prove how corrupt my government is... Canada!!! So that's the significance of all this to me. I may even sue them. I'm building a little studio in a cramped room. For audio recording and electronics and 3D printing and sewing. But as I have to do these things myself with hardly any formal training, everything is trial and error. Everything is an intellectual challenge as well as consequential for my budget. I appreciate my audience and our interactions. But this is not so much about entertainment as it is documentation of my efforts. Feel free to contact me. Ha, I didn't know anything about rule tiles. Thanks for the tip. I made an array for each mesh/graphic. I set the corners first, and had their distance from the top left one determined by its position vs. the position of my cursor as long as I held down the left mouse button. There's an array for the center top tiles and bottom which each have 14 index positions. The sides have 9 indexes. As the size of this cluster of tiles changes, for loops delete and then add the new graphics. The center part is what's more complicated. It's another for loop, but with 126 tiles that are instantiated from the start. Their mesh renderers are accessed through an array of 504 index positions. And they're enabled or disabled depending on the two positions of the left tile corner vs. the mouse cursor position.
i feel like you could use a set rule tile , and have the game use the grid to replace your current tiles with the rule tile on mouse clicks, could have some or of layer for the tiles like ischangeable ect.@@technofeeliak
Well, I'm mimicking Supe Mario Maker's functions. But it's too early to judge this because it's a work in progress and in its early stages. I'll look into Rule Tiles a bit further to determine if it's something I can benefit from. @@damonfedorick
I'm recreating "The Legend of Zelda" originally for the NES using Unity and c#. Creating the world is easier with a tool that's got all the assets/graphics ready. And, including it in the game for someone to play with adds another dimension to the game play.
You would probably do the same thing in another language. They're just for loops, arrays, using two points (top left corner tile position vs. cursor position)@@hotsoda46 The real trick is to get the instructions just right so that the array of center tiles are all appearing and disappearing when needed.

If you already have an internal HDD, then you must have the cable that connects it to the motherboard. It's a SATA cable. If for whatever reason you need to buy that cable you can look in the video's description to find a link to Amazon's product page. Otherwise, you'll have to search Ebay or elsewhere if they don't have it anymore. But, you likely have the cable. You're confusing me by mentioning the NVMe SSD. How is that relevant to adding or swapping your internal storage? Whatever is running your operating system is separate from the internal storage. As you've seen in the video. The NVMe SSD would have to be configured to run the OS. I've put a link in the description to the NVMe SSD I purchased.
