Welcome to Sports Cards Once Again! On this channel, we explore a whole bunch of things all related to sports cards. Sometime we go deep, sometimes we stay shallow, but all in all we aim to provide sports card content that is unique, thoughtful, well-researched and useful. Hope you enjoy the channel!
Wow, excellent video! Definitely agree with all your reasons especially #4. Recently purchased a near complete 1969 set, love everything about that set and looking forward to acquiring 10 more cards for completion.
Are you planning go your local GameStop sell your graded sports cards. Compare the price how much you can get from eBay, card show vs GameStop by selling your graded sports cards.
I did find out my nearby GameStop does do that. I might try something like this at some point. Not too soon though, since my summer plans are kinda all over the place, but maybe sometime later... maybe...
whatnot is a platform for the ones that already have an audience. Thing is, they are drawn in from other social media platforms like youtube channels and are not generic from that specific platform. Not for me. thanks for sharing, great week to you!
You take Keane as a good example on how to have success. His RU-vid connects to his buyers and he runs 200-400 cards almost every night and starts everything at $1 and does "sudden death" auctions and he has built his brand and gets 60-100 people per night. But it's so much work, such a grind and 3-4 hours after in preparing shipping.
He's a great example of someone who should use WhatNot. It makes complete sense for how he approaching things. He's spending a lot of time not just with cards but with building community and with connecting with people. WhatNot is good for that
@@scoa What Keane does right is "sudden death" auctions. He starts everything at a buck and there is no time to research comps or anything and after five or ten seconds of bidding, cards valued at $2 sell for $7. You don't even have time to react as the show goes by so quickly. It's wild.
@@LetsStormTheTeaCupRide Yeah, COMC live auctions can be like that sometimes too, if the timing is right. Keane getting a big audience and making high profit on that makes sense. It does really show how off people can be on estimating comps though.
In my opinion, even if they did detect a trace amount of something, that Wemby card is huge. PSA wants their name on cards like that. I doubt they would ever decertify it knowing how big the card is for the hobby and their reputation
I can make profit off a whole submission without getting any PSA 10's... it's all about the specific cards that are graded and know what collector's have an interest in. Find a niche and get really good at knowing how those sets grade then expand.
I ordered cards over a period of about two-weeks, then hit the 'weigh all' button, and it took about a month to get my shipment weighed and then another month before it was sent, and then another week before it arrived. All in, I got the cards 2.5-3 months after I won them in auction. That being said, in my recent purchase, they got it to weighing my package within about a week, so they may be speeding up.

Keep in mind, the only one who earns money for sure is PSA, with grading fees more then double of CGCs, it is unlikely that they do not earn a pretty fortune.
100%, they are making bank on the hobby. I don't know how they managed to position themselves the way they have. They aren't objectively better than other graders, but they certainly have managed to corner to market
As tempting as it is to move everything to COMC I just can’t get past the fact that after I pay all the fees to list and sell my cards that I then am charged another 10% to get my cash. That’s absolutely wild imo when many consignment sellers will do an ACH payment free into your checking or savings account.
Yeah, I could understand that. I did make a video awhile back that looked at the actual fee structure with concrete examples and what I found was that all things added in, the amount COMC takes in the end and the amount eBay takes in the end almost evened themselves out, especially if you do a handful of listings with eBay promotions. I personally use a good amount of my COMC sales to buy other cards as well (either for my pc or to flip on the platform or to flip to sell elsewhere), in which case they don't take that 10%. But I do understand what your saying, that cash-out fee ain't my fav.
I'm actually not sure, now that I think about it. All I can say is that from my experience, I've had 4-5 shipments, valued from maybe $750 at the low end to about $2K at the high end, and I've never had to pay any customs fees. But I'm not actually sure what they are declaring when they ship it off.
I heard GameStop are buying your graded sports cards now. I saw one RU-vidrs cool factor cards sell his graded sports cards. Are you considering selling your graded sports card at GameStop. It could be interesting video in your channel. You can compare comp vs GameStop gives you how much they pay you in cash?
Thats a very interesting video idea. I might have to find out if the GameStop in my area is doing this. I read that only some branches of GameStop is doing this, but since sports cards aren't as big a thing in the Pacific NW where I'm at, I would be kind of surprised if the GameStops around here were doing this. I will have to go check it out next I'm near one.
I have another similar one coming up in the future that doesn't list what I paid, but I'll try to do that for the next time I get a batch like this in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@TheCardHunter That one was right around $100 after fees. Looking now, that looks like it might be closer to right about current comps. i bought this a few months back (takes a few months to get in person} when comps were more like $150.
I put one up one time, and didn't do so well. I also have gone in as a buyer to some of those streams and that has made me not want to submit as a seller to those. Don't think they do as well as I'd want them to if I was gonna spend that much for a submission and risk it.
I don't have any of the sources on hand I was using when making this video 2 years ago. But I kind of remember the humidity issue being related to cards that had never been opened, and were in their plastic packaging, which would prevent humidity from reaching the card, have many times still ended up being hulked out versions of the card when first opened.
I came back to the hobby late into the downturn. Looking at things from a prospective of the 90s.. I see alot of similarities, but with a great amount more risk. I buy a few graded vintage cards, but it's way too volatile for me. The place I tend to focus is buying collections in bulk. Then at least after the work you have value for your efforts.
Collections in bulk can definitely be a good way to go. Definitely needs a lot of time though! I bought one massive collection a few months back and ended up basically just reselling it as a bulk collection again just because it was taking so much time to go through.
Wow, you are really picky. 9 graded cards as the upper limit to keep in your collection is really tight. Good for you. Currently I am doing "pregrading" for $9 with CGC. that gives me more than 2x the chance than going directly to PSA. Totally agree, thicker cards are harder to grade, but that also goes with black or darker borders.
I’m thinking of getting a prizm box this year, should I buy tons of blaster boxes, or just one whole mega box (aka hobby box, which you probably know) Thanks for this informational video!!
Oh man, I really don't know the answer to that question. I actually don't buy a whole lot of sealed wax myself, tend to just aim for singles. It seems the general knowledge spread is to aim for hobby instead of retail, in general, if you are going to rip wax, but I really don't know for sure. When I open packs, it tends to be blaster boxes, but that's just because I rarely open them and just do it occasionally for a fun experience with no expectation for getting much monetary value out of it type of thing.
@@tradernottraitor2731 Welcome to the subscriber team! I don't have any strong thoughts on fat packs, I do think there tends to be a lot of base cards in there, which isn't necessarily what I'm looking for. Prizm in generall this year, I'm not too keen on for packs. In both basketball and football, so many of the best young rookies have exclusive autograph contracts with Fanatics, so they can't be found in Panini products. To me, that brings down the ceiling of those packs by a really significant amount. And I'm not such a fan of parallels, so it makes it hard to be excited about much of anything in there.
I can understand. I've done some math of my sales and found that overall, when all is considered, the percent eBay and COMC take from me actually end up being pretty much the same all things considered.
If you have the patience to find the hidden gems in the streams, you can find some really good deals as a buyer. If I was to give anyone advice at the moment about the live auctions, that's probably where I'd point people to look. It's only accessible on the app though, can't get to it through a desktop/laptop.
@@scoa I still have a small handful of cards on there but I had most shipped back to me. Between fee's, very slow shipping and processing I had enough. My auctions never ended well and lost way more than I care to admit but I never tried the live auctions.
