I’m new to your channel but learning so much! We are visiting friends in Scotland in September and they are taking us to a game. I know American football and a bit of soccer. Really excited to learn about rugby! Thanks for your videos!
Hello Couch Rugby. I was wondering if you could do some breakdowns after games. Especially now, to explain some of the rulings in this last game with Ireland? knees hitting the ball, etc. What is the reason for decisions, and do you agree with all of them?
Hi Jonathan. It is a space I want to explore as I grow my channel. My biggest hurdle at this point in time is being able to turn around videos quick enough as I am currently only doing this as a side project. So current topics are not that easy for me to cover as my videos take a lot of time to make and by the time I finished it the topic is no longer of high interest. But be rest assured the plan is for me to start doing that as I hopefully am able to dedicate more time to this. Ireland got some calls wich I can understand is hard to swallow this weekend. For the most part I think the main factor that counted against Ireland in these dicesions by the TMO is the fact that the on field decision was against them. Making it hard for the TMO to overturn when the evidence is not beyond despute. Personally I feel Rugby referees have too much to do during the game and I believe we should at least explore if having more referees each with narrower and more focused responsibilities is a better way to go. Especially at the proffesional level. The amount of frustration with decisions in Rugby is concerning and I dont blame the referees.
Haha thanks, I am generally a bit self-contious of my mixed accent so this was a nice comment to read. Although if I had Morgan Freeman narrating my videos, the world would be Rugby experts by now.
I dont understand punting in rugby--sometimes it seems that a team is making progress running the ball up the field and then all of a sudden a player will punt the ball and give up possession to the other team?
@couchrugby Another outstanding video. Quick question: Do you have a video that speaks to the decision making of the #10? You mentioned how they decide to go this direction or that direction, they decide if they should kick or handoff.... Etc I would love to know what the defense is doing to make you decide on option A vs. Option B... If that is available I love the way you explain things so I know it will penetrate my thick skull
I think the easiest way for me to provide more clarity on 10 play at this time is to point you to a video i did diving deeper into 10 play ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z8B8W4er-00.html . hopefully it will help shine some light for you.
@@couchrugby Thank you so much! That works... This position might be my favorite because it is the most different one from our Football here with them being the Runners, the Quarterbacks and Kickers of the team.... Dan Carter was the one I enjoyed watching highlights of most, thankfully he didn't accept the offer to come play kicker in American Football. 1- Because he was much more than a kicker. 2- Because he was going to play for the New England Patriots.. The rivals of my home town's Miami Dolphins!! Thank you again!
This is incredibly helpful. My Lieutenant had us play rugby against the aussie soldiers when we were deployed to Iraq and didnt really explain thos part to us rather just had us play a certain role and i didnt understand LOL. LT was on the rugby team at west point
Best channel for someone trying to learn about the sport like myself. I am happy when I see a new video of yours becomes available and highly recommend this channel. Let's get this channel up to 25K folks, then higher! Thank you, again! 💪
I’ve seen a 6ft 1 half back an 116 kg an he never got tired controlled the forwards an won the rugby game with his perfect passing an fast thinking an his mentality an physical attributes with his huge fend - I just think it doesn’t matter how you look- just matters if you can pass off the ground an you can just pass good all round, box kick an it’s just upto the individual
At college level matches, I ask spectators who say they’ve been around rugby since childhood and even THEY don’t exactly understand what is happening. They were not raised in the USA and I think there are variations around the world. Great place to make casual friends
Thank you for all you do, this is great to show my son who is just getting into rugby and also a great education for me too. Doing a great service for the game.
Love that rugby content creators are starting to talk about scrums more For such a big part of the game, it's not particularly understood by many beyond people that have played rugby as a forward
Your last two minutes of commentary on the need to educate the audience on the laws of rugby is huge, and hopefully will be heard by the streaming and broadcast networks that carry rugby. Thank you for educating us!
It really takes experiencing it to understand how subtle differences in bind placement can change the overall comfort and strength of the bind. There's also little tricks such as pulling your jersey tight to make it harder for the opposing player to get a good handful.
One thing on the dark arts of the front row. As a LH, we try to push our opposite number upward so that our hooker has a better sight of the ball being put in, or be awarded a penalty for the TH being stood up. Then on the flipside our TH will try to drive the LH down to obstruct the opposition hookers view, if not get a collapse penalty.
this helped so much now I know how my teamates feel in the scrum. Thanks for this , keep up the video's. I have learned a lot of things from them. Also could you do a video explaining the line- out
I am only half way through and this video is teaching me so much! Its hard just trying to pick it up as you go and coaches only have so much time in a practice to explain. Thank you!
I do thank you, i be a 39yr old dude over weight 5ft 4 got suckered into joining rugby team in Canada for Windsor rogues my schedule keeps me screwed from practises and you have eased my WTF brain down a bit, it helps Cheers! First game is May 11!
