Alberly's Hats has two locations. One in Oaxaca de Juarez and their main shop in Ocotlan de Morales. Alberly Sombreros De Oaxaca They are on Facebook for more information.
I was able to have a go with one of these recently and it's a great lens, but I do wish they had made it an f2.8 for better portability, something like the size of the Pana-Leica 200/2.8 for micro 4/3.
Thanks for the great review, John! I am in the market for purchasing a similar setup and was wondering what tripod you paired with the GXP in this video? Thanks in advance!
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It is on an older Induro 303 XL tripod--no longer made. Benro is now marketing something similar but I'm afraid I don't know the exact model number.
Hi all, Izzy here! Wanted to give an update as I recently rewatched this recording and realized I misinformed about the origin of the Barred Owl! The Barred Owl is NOT a native species in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Barred Owls are native to the East Coast and only migrated westward in the late 1800s following human alterations to the landscape. They are now considered an invasive species on the West Coast as they displace native wildlife species including the threatened Northern Spotted Owl. Thanks for uploading this video John, I appreciate the opportunity to speak with you!
Rented twice and I agree, it is a wonderful lens, but price and focal length really killed this lens. Another 100mm might have helped, but no doubt would have pushed the price higher as well, likely nearing the $10k range. I recently picked up the 150-600 and despite the relatively slow variable aperture, I am loving this lens. Comes in at a great price point ($2k) combined with a killer focal length, I am very pleased with the results from this hunk of glass over the last year. Rumors of a 500mm f4 might be in the offing, we shall see, like the 200mm, I won't have the wallet for it. Though I might rent one on an occasion should a need arise.
Hi & thanks, John. Not sure how I'd missed the assembled wonders & marvels earlier. Altho' I'd seen many of the individual photos along the way...this video is outstanding!
John could you do this for Nikon ?? Like your knowledge and cannot afford high priced lenses .. Have Nikon Z7ii & D800 .. J5, J4, J3, many J1 mirrorless cameras .. Always looking to learn .. Thanks for educating me !!!
Thanks for the review! Regarding your experience with the 100-400, how are you doing with the 4.5 - 5.6 aperture? Isn't it too dark? How is it going with the bokeh?
My primary use for the 100-400 has been birds and a few landscapes. The 4.5-5.6 isn't bad for the speed on the lens but occasionally gets a little slow, resulting in high ISO's--particularly for birds, but noise reduction software fixes most problem images. The bokeh has been fine but then I'm not a bokeh fanatic either.
Hi John, I truly enjoyed your reviewing of the Fuji GFX 50sii it was heartfelt. And your images are breathtaking. And I believe you when you say the proof is in the pudding, and it was. Thank you for sharing your experience.
quick observation, I think you should try to remember not should your videos in auto white balance, color keeps changing during your whole video. just saying in case you care about it. great video, I just got this camera too and it is great.
Pablo--thank you for pointing this out. I shot this with my iPhone 11 and I don't believe that camera had the option to turn off the auto white balance. I've since upgraded to the iPhone 14 pro Max and understand it has that capability with the latest operating system. I'll be making that change. Thanks.
Hey John, just found your review on the 200mm. Like your set up with the 2 teleconverters 1.4 attached, with it we are at ~400mm, which I find is quite a number. While using the H2S one could even increase by using the Sports AF. Need to try that out. The focus limitation is due to the extension cube I assume, which is in general used for macros, isn't it?
In order for the two teleconverters to be stacked you have to have space between them, hence the extension tube, which limits the focus. I think with the addition of the 150-600 to the Fujifilm lenses that option would probably be a better route if a longer reach is needed.
Oh, I love this! I have seen and photographed several barred owls here in East Tennessee. Never seen another kind. But last time I was at my sister’s house, urban North Carolina, I was shocked to hear owls from the guest room! Next time I go, I will look for them. You have such beautiful pictures!!
Very informative. Im just discovering the topic of owls. I recently started hearing owls at night wooing each other. Its Dec. and I think its breeding time for long horned owls and its early Dec.
Girl is the bomb...my educational journey was extraordinary and serendipitous also...seeking your bliss and your place to serve powers magic and wonders. Go forth bearing witness and arming bears!
What a wonderful presentation by Izzy. She will do very well in life, I am sure!. Great job too, John. I really enjoyed that. I live in Eastern Ontario, Canada and my favourite birds to photograph are Owls and Hawks. Picked up some great tips from this video.
Hi, I think your points of view for camera and lens were very interesting to listen to, I also have Fujifilm GFX 50S II and kit lens 35-70 and for me it made a difference when I went from full format to medium format. Very exciting how the new gf 20-35 lens will be received and what price it will be, best regards Tormod
Thanks Matt--the right tool for the job. If you use the right tool it makes the job easier and you aren't trying to use a tool for something it wasn't designed for!
John what is the crop factor for the meduim format camera. For example your new E-M1X has a crop factor of 2X. The medium format them must be less than a Crop Factor of less than 1.0/ Is that correct ?
