I'm Bailey, I'm a knitter who loves to share her makes! I make videos about my knitting and other fiber craft endeavors. I create both a regular podcast of my crafting progress, and also standalone videos about projects, travel, decorating, it whatever I might have going on!
A beautiful gentle video. It was so precious to witness you go through your grandma's books. So many sweet patterns, some funky vintage ones and some hilarious ones. 😊
I inherited my grandmother’s knitting accoutrements too. I had the long aluminum needles made into earrings for all of the women in my family by Ness Boutique because I knew I wouldn’t use them. Just an idea if you decide you don’t need some of them for actual knitting!
just wanted to say I really appreciate you going through exactly why organisational solutions you'd previously implemented aren't working or need to be tweaked. Most of the time people treat organisation like a before and a perfectly aesthetic after, like before it was a mess and now it's perfect. When in my experience organisation is a system that needs to be actually functional and can always be tweaked and improved as you use a space and determine if it works or not. And often needs to be when we try things that don't work or our needs change.
I am loving this series on redoing your craft room. I also loved that you shared going through all of your grandma's books. My baba (grandma) was a prolific crafter and taught me a lot of what I know and love today. When she passed, my grandfather let someone clear out all of her craft supplies and WIPs so I didn't get that experience. It was wonderful to experience a little of glimpse of that through this video. Thank you!
So glad I found your video today. Didn’t know Ravelry had a yarn inventory feature. I will have to look into it. Enjoyed your organizing process. Thanks
I commented above that I just discovered your channel today...and I am sooooo glad I did!!! I am so encouraged by your undertaking and that you are showing us the real process, emotions, and steps that you are taking rather than just "before" and "after" pics! And I am so blessed by your reverence for how you are sorting through your grandmother's things! I cried with you! I am a grandmother to 13 grandkids and I am an avid crocheter...I am 60 now and have been crocheting since I was about 5 years old! I have taught most of my grandchildren o crochet...boys AND girls...and they have all seemingly enjoyed the process! At Thanksgiving last year, I was making new stockings for Christmas like a crazy woman and one of my teenage grandsons came into the livingroom where we were all visiting and said, "Grandma, WalMart called and said they are out of green and red yarn and they are wondering if they can buy some from you"!😂 They know their grandma is a yarn-hoarder and they love me anyway! I hope they are as reverant when I pass away and leave things behind as you are with your grandmother's things. Bless you, dear! I will be waiting for next weeks episode of the destashing saga!
I’m loving this craft room series! I can’t believe you found the book with that afghan pattern, how very special. I’m so looking forward to part three!
From the way you held that afghan pattern book of the one your beloved grandmother knit for all of you, I knew you were holding a treasure. Just the way your hand pressed against the book, it was as though you were feeling her, letting the memories flow into you. It's no wondered you cried! I would have, too.
I just stumbled on your channel this AM as i am looking for encouragement and insight to "de-stash" my own craft room! I am so embarrassed to say that...i have sooooooooo much more yarn than what you have... its really a bad bad problem.😢 But I'm determined to donate and sell a lot of this stuff! And to make it manageable! You are so brave to share all of this struggle with so many! I think my pride (and my shame!!) would inhibit me waaaay too much! But I'm gaining a TON of insight from watching what you have already done! Excited to see the finished room and the rest of the "process"!! 🎉
Oh boy that old bookcase looked so flimsy when you lifted it down the stairs! I'm glad you have a sturdier (and much prettier!) bookcase to replace it. I'm looking forward to the second half of the reorganisation!
the hutch is beautiful, what a find! i don't know if you ever used the website craftster back in the day but there was a thread where people shared before and after photos of organising and cleaning up their craft spaces and it was so satisfying to see. this video is taking me back to that thread.
It would be great to have somewhere like that. I’ve seen two craft rooms that had such great ideas and now I can’t find them. That would be a great website to have now.
Have you considered putting your yarn cubes on the wall where your chair currently is and then move the new bookshelf to the space behind your closet door? You might find that would open up your beautiful window area, create a focus area for podcasting with the yarn wall, and give you a better placement of your chair near the window for more natural light. Just a thought! Love me some reorganizing!
I'm excited to see your books. I need to get a couple more heavy duty bookshelves so I can do the same. I have knitting, crochet, and weaving books and they have outgrown my 4 bookcase by a lot. Part of me looks at what you are doing and thinks, I'd be moving the yarn cubes and everything lmao. My boss was showing off how we are organizing a booth we are vending at, and she had made to scale pieces for a few of our large thing so we could space them out and make sure there was space around the outside, etc. So I would totally be there with graph paper and little pieces representing various shelves and chairs scooting everything around.
I love that new piece you got. I wonder if you put the bookshelf against the wall where the chair is now and tuck your chair between the two pieces?… would that work ?
So happy you are back !! If you go to Rhinebeck, I hope to meet you ! Tip : I have some weird anxiety about putting something on my walls )… it is a commitment issue)….But I have NO problem tapping a small nail into my book shelf and THAT is what I hung my circular needle organizer on !
I love this video. I’m subscribed, but I think I last saw your craft room when you first organized! It is inspiring me to organize my room this summer :)
I don't think the hutch is that out of place. But the hutch being too big for the space actually accentuates the maximalist grandma vibes, it reminds me of the apartments lot of single elder ladies live in after they downsized but held on to a few belived pieces furniture that used to belong into a bigger house, and now the proportions are a little off. Like some kind of dollhouse effect ♥
There's a name for us ? 😂 Been working on my craft room 2 weeks ! Im in the same quandary I need better storage. My bookshelf is overloaded . Im putting lacd weight and #1 on the upper shelf in my clothes closet. Then I need industrial shelves for my quilting stuff. That will leave the closet for #3-5 wt. I have a foldup table to work on in the middle. I think a press pad will leave the ironing board behind the door. It takes a lot of thinking thru unless I can get a cupboard in the living room . 🎉
omg all that handspun for $35 what a steal!! i think you were pretty restrained though, i think it would be easy to spend like $100 and justify it by saying it's so cheap, but i guess it's not just the cost of the yarn you also have to think about where it will be stored and how much of it will you realistically use. i think the skeins you picked up are really lovely and look forward to seeing their final destinations.
Another awesome podcast, Bailey 😊 I don't mind either the short or long format. I bring out my WIPs while you're talking, so it's almost like being in a craft group together! I loooooove your top that you're wearing! It's so cute and sunny. Here in Tassie it has been cold and dreary for the last two weeks, so this just livened up my day! Love your Mohn Cardigan too. It's so pretty, I can't wait to see it finished. I've been around since your first video, and I can't wait to see what you've done with your craft room this time! 😍 Enjoy your vacation - you've totally earned it. ❤❤
Hope you have a lovely holiday. Loved that your vintage button matched perfectly. I’ve just been given my grandmas sewing and button box and love it all ❤❤❤
I don’t mind the 30-45 minute podcasts 😊 Having a little update was great, but don’t worry about your videos being too long, they are not. I love your energy. Lucky find on that wonderful yarn!
I love the yarn, but those poor rabbits! Grating is bad for their feet, water bottles are a bigger bacteria risk than bowls, and they had no room to move :'( I hope that isn't how they are normally kept, but even a day in those cages would be horrid, they look scared
I'm really loving all of your knits! And that bikini is just so beautiful! I'd love to see you model it, and proudly cuz when you get older you'll see how silly those insecurities are! Nowadays I have to go outside to get a picture far enough away for all of the wrinkles to not show.😑. Did you know that you can crochet around a neckline to tighten it up? It works great!
Love your podcast, Bailey! You just take care and keep knitting. When you feel like putting out content, of course I’m here for that!😊. So glad you have fiber to soothe you. Cast on all you want. Seems like a pretty healthy way to take care of yourself, but I am biased, I guess. 😂😂
I need to buy some more yarn to finish a project because I had to modify this tank top I am working on a lot as I thought 4 skeins of Yarn would be enough Nope so I am breaking into the yarn for the other top color which is the same color that I am working and I will buy 2 more of the same color and one for the other color I am working on. But on the Brightside I will be stash busting as well.
No shame in going slow and taking care of yourself, we’ve all been there! My best friend and I made a knitting insta for projects but we’ve only posted like 6 times 💀. Your own pace is the best pace!
