A buddy of mine had a 1960 FC 170, we scraped the original flat head six and swapped in a Ford 300 straight six with an Offenhauser duel port °360 intake, Holley four barrel & a split heddman header. He painted it black with some high back bucket seats inside. The truck had a nearly nine foot bed. The whole thing turned out really nice. Oddly enough some guy from Colorado paid my buddy a fairly large number $ for it. The cab & bed were in considerably better shape than what you're starting out with, because it spent most of its original life in the California high desert 🏜 Rock on & good luck those are some really cool/unique ol pickups. Plus your build is more ambitious & sophisticated than ours but we did it well over 25 years ago.
That's going to be nice! I like that you're keeping the D53 in the rear instead of just swapping straight to the D60, and it's cool that you're adding ABS.
Something to consider with the create diesel. Will you be forced to use DEF fluid? On the 4L60, the 4L80 was built for bigger gas and obviously the Allison for the GM and other diesel manufacturers.
Pretty sad that the price of powder coating has gone up so much, that it's literally cheaper to just build your own setup. Will seriously pay for itself almost immediately. Smh
You can get an om617 for $500. I put one in my jeep in highschool 10 years ago. Part are an issue. VW 2.0 tdi 2009+ is a great motor, common rail injection and variable geometry turbo 140hp stock 230ftlbs stock. It will do 170hp with just a tune.
how to lift at an angle while going straight up?? I put my FC150 cab on a 4" x 4" frame with casters, held it together and could then move it around, doing the body work on it now
I like my sawz-all for a lot of removal but love to use 4" grinder with friction disc for straps and such, very fast, thanks for documenting this build, very interesting
that went well, sure would be easier if you didn't film and had both hands, so thank you for sharing, not may M677's out there, awesome to see one being redone
as tough as that was way better than a midwest vehicle, my FC-150 needed oxyacetylene with small tip on all bolts, cherry red, then came out with large screwdriver turning with channel-locks
uhg. That's no fun! This is/was a coastal NY vehicle that appears to have been setup as a beach-runner (based on the high flotation Baja tires). So, I was totally expecting your experience and I was pleasantly surprised I did not have to resort to your methods! Stay tuned to see the crazy amount of rust and rot that I am sure you are familiar with
Very cool project! I think your lifting point is reducing your rear weight reading, it should be lifted at the rear axle (like you did in the front) to get the correct weight?
You have a challenge ahead , it’s clearly a labor of love as it doesn’t make sense any other way . Being a rare example goes a long ways to why , Pretty sure I have never seen another .
Great video, Tucker!! Thanks for making it! You asked us to guess which engine you will be installing. My first guess is a new Cummins 2.8 crate engine. My second guess is a Cummins 4BT! I haven't yet watched the video where you speak about the new engine so my guesses are genuine!! I'm looking forward to following this build. It's going to be epic!
Thanks for Watching! Very good guesses! You will see in the later video that the 2.8 cummins is definitely a top contender! Not going to spoil it for you though. Hope you enjoy. going to be a long adventure!
The only thing that bothers me is how long we have to wait to see your rig moving. Not your fault. There is just a lot to do. Good luck and I will be watching.
Hello Tucker, I hope you are going to reinforce the frame on your cool custom Jeep your building. Back in 1978 my brother and I had an 1958 FC-150 that had the flathead 4 in it. We were going to install a Ford 302 with a 4 speed. Then we were going to ad a third axle under it to make it look like a tandem axel semi truck. But one of the main things that we needed to do was extend the frame rails & ad some cross members. But reinforcing the paper thin C channel frame rails were a real priority. But just boxing it in & adding a few extra cross members would probably make a big difference. Good Luck👍
ok watched the rest, didn't guess you would pick what you did, I think it is a great choice, won't comment more as don't want to spoil people's suprise
Good Guess! The 4BT is certainly a popular option for these trucks and is on my list for comparison. Definitely some pros and cons with it - however, the weight and noise are pretty big detractors on an FC swap. Check out my third video where I evaluate 10 engines (including the 4BT), by the numbers, and reveal my selected engine
