Nice review! It appears from your reading that Ligotti is giving an explanation for the absurdity of existence (pointed out by others, such as Camus). His philosophy seems to explain the absurdity of being as nothing else but being conscious. Probably drunkards and drug addicts escape from this absurdity just by being temporarily unconscious! 😅

I found the book very hard to follow and difficult to understand. Be good if they released a dumbed down version to explain what each chapter is trying to say. Or would be great to have an audio explanation after each chapter. I think more would get a lot from it then. Cause as it is, the working class cannot read a book like gulag archipelago

I attempted to read Ligotti, but I find his stories too depressing for me. I enjoy H.P. Lovecraft stories, where the dangers are outside ourselves, but with Ligotti, the evil is shown to be inside of us and never-ending. I only read about half of the book you are talking about, but I had to quit because the stories were taking me to the depths of depression.

Cioran is definitely a polarizing figure. He’s usually lumped in with philosophical pessimists, such as Thomas Ligotti and Peter Zapffe. Thanks for the video!

Great review 🙏🌞 You are really onto to something with the “waiting.” I have long believed that detachment is at the heart of both enlightenment and depression. Two sides of the same coin. One side sad and the other side glad. The flip side of Dazai’s “waiting” is Andre Breton’s in Mad Love: “Regardless of what happens, or does not happen, the wait itself is magnificent.”

This is so far superior to the usual Colleen Hoover and Fantasy and Horror and "I bought it because -- LOOK at that cover!" and Romance and good god, shut up. Your books are from another dimension altogether. I must admit, though, that I'm not smart enough to read most of these volumes. Seriously. Overall, this is a 5+. Well done to both of you.

Not a single recommendation from Indian/Eastern philosophy, any reason? I see this theme recurring in a lot of recommendations - there is always a gravitating towards the Western system..

Thanks, this is a great channel very helpful advice is getting into reading. i am on a journey reading through Hellenic Philosophy such as Epictetus, Aurelius and Seneca and these tips have helped me stick with it and not be afraid to reread to get a deeper perspective. Part of my desire to read deeply is to offset the effect of social media on the mind so it is great i have found you on this Media!
