Funny, I used to have an old ElektraBeckum mitersaw from the early 90's, a German brand that no loger exists, and guess what, that Saw actually was collecting dust from below and at the Sawblade too. Havn't seen that concept reappear on other saws until now :)

This is terrific! Do you have a version for those of us that do not use a dado stack? I must have watched at least 50 videos looking for the perfect jig. I have a small tabletop table saw. They do not take dado stacks. This is the closest to my needs except for the dado stack. Please help! :(

This method looks like the way to go for me. I scratch build a lot of larger scale outdoor railroad rolling stock. And yes, 1/16" is very useful.

I built mine over the weekend! The only changes I made were to extend the sled beyond the inside edge of the bandsaw table, and then added an "L" shaped leg to hook below the edge of the table. My bandsaw only has (1) T-track slot and the leg keeps the sled in contact with the table no matter what. I also used an aluminum t-track instead of routing in a dovetail for the pivot adjustment, and a piece of 1/2" thick HDPE for the "donut". The sled got pretty heavy, so I used a 3" hole saw to remove some material. It works flawlessly, thanks for sharing your design!

why can't you just clamp a block the desired distance from the blade to the first part of the fence.. then using a mitre guage but your piece up to the block and then carry it through? Surely that leaves the right size offcut and no pushing anything through the small gap?
@InspireWoodcraft
@InspireWoodcraft День назад
@LeonWiddicombe That would be for crosscutting, not ripping. And on that note, I always urge people to go step further and just secure a stop block to the table, instead of the fence, so that there is more room to work. Less chance for off cuts falling into the blade that way. But yeah, what I showed in this video is for ripping.

The original DW780 DeWalt dust chute was an absolute joke. The Rousseau hood worked to catch a lot sawdust for my vacuum, but I still had a LOT of airborne dust. Then I purchased a dust chute from Travis at Shop Nation which was a large improvement over the so called DeWalt dust chute, but still had lots of airborne dust. Then I purchased your dust collection throat plate and now collect the remaining dust from the blade area. I honestly think that with my Bosch Dust Extractor, Shop Nation dust chute and Inspire Woodcraft dust collection throat plate that the dust problem is over to the point that I don’t have to wear a respirator. I’m very thankful to you and Travis for taking care of such a dangerous breathing hazard…..saw dust. SUPER EASY to install. Thank you Jodee for taking the time to research and develop a throat plate dust collector that plays very well with Travis’ dust chute design!!!!

Hi late to the game on this video but I do love the content. Quick question as you're pushing through the cut where is the pressure exerted to? The edge before the cut or after the cut? Thanks
@JohnSmith-ld1pw
@JohnSmith-ld1pw 3 дня назад
I definitely like the idea of not having to adjust the fence to get a more repeatable cut. Freeze framing where your thumb is shows about 4 mm of mdf between you and the blade. That's a little too close for comfort for me and my digits. When I do actually need to make thin strips I will have to incorporate a sacrificial push block of some kind.

Good video. That is a great trick. I've got some pretty nice trim I'm using for door casings. There are a couple of doors where one side had to be about an inch less than the rest of the casing. This will let me do the cut the way I want to. I don't know how I was doing it before, but it wasn't as easy as your way.

@l00kns33 Anything that falls below the table is entirely gone. Thats a fact. Can’t do much for what the behind-the-blade attachment doesn’t collect. That might be what you’re seeing. During testing I recorded slow-mo video to ensure it captured everything.

Great design. Well thought out. You have a nice big floor model to deal with. My drill press is a bench-top model so I had to make a smaller table. I ended up putting a drawer box underneath like you did. Only the front half is a drawer. The back half is a hollow compartment for dust collection. The dust port is on the side of the box toward the back. The top has replaceable inserts. I can drill holes in the inserts to accommodate various size drum sanders and the dust is all carried away. I think you could easily make similar modifications and improve the utility of your drill press.

Are the two long sides parallel if the ends on the jointing side aren't both against that reference board when you start the cut?

@grayonhill If I'm understanding you correctly, the two long edges won't be parallel unless you flip it around and rip the other edge.
