sylvie - they/she - tarot theory nerd, obsessed with the structure of tarot and making connections between the cards.
I publish a video every Wednesday and Sunday, and bonus videos go up on a Friday when I have more to share. If you’d like to see more, I would love to have you join.
I share insights into the ways I think about tarot and use it in my daily practice. You can expect to see the ways I use tarot and oracle cards for introspection and self-development, VRs to hashtags, and walkthroughs and thoughts on decks new and old.
I found watching you sew/bead while talking so soothing. Seeing those lovely skeins of pink thread reminded me that I picked up some gorgeous neon pink floss last summer. I had stashed it away like a squirrel and promptly forgotten about it. So, thank you. lol. "Tarot's external storage for your brain" I love that! Thank you for responding to my tagging you. x
Ive been finding that I sit with my tarot cards alot more. I get so much more from them when I take it slow, which sound so obvious now that Im writing this 😅😅
I love your videos!! Thank you for sharing, sometimes I do want to dive deep into a deck or spread and learn everything about it... But most of the time I am out of patience and energy so I go for the short and sweet.
I 100% agree with you that sometimes a straight RWS can be more difficult to read because I am searching for all the layers. This is the exact reason I gravitate towards TdM and pips decks when I need those straight readers with CBD TdM with its clean lines being my favorite. I can step back and separate myself from the "traditional symbols" and just look at the basics: directionality, elemental makeup, etc. Fifth Spirit is the perfect blend of something that is illustrative but not too layered that I get in my own head about it. Reading can be such an onslaught of messages sometimes that it's great to identify the ones that are to-the-point. (Though I very much enjoy the "onslaught" sort of decks.) ❤
"Minimalist" also applies in this case. Perhaps, "Restrained," or, "Stripped-back," as well. "Distilled" comes to mind too. I don't know which word Sylvie meant, but maybe all of them!
I'm kicking myself for not buying a Morgan Greer years ago! I think I was finally able to see beyond the aggressive 70s-ness of it, to its perfect RWS shorthand. It's my go-to "I need a quick answer" deck these days. I had a moment with the Colour Outside the Lines but it's cooled down, perhaps because the Morgan Greer came into my life. The Deviant Moon IS a feelings deck for me too. I hated it when it first came out but one day I saw cards from the borderless edition and I immediately Had To Have It. The images just push buttons before you've even had a chance to register which card you're looking at.
This is such a great concept! I want to go through my collection and see how many decks fall into either category. Im sure I’ve said it before but I need to get the el dios de los tres, the excitable, interruptive energy just sounds all too familiar.
There are hundreds of oracle that are neutral, not love and light, Poesis Oracle, Maiden Oracle., COSMOS, Marsielle Oracle, Citadel or there are some tarot/oracle hybrids like Archetype. Alchemy, Nameless Ones, Sacred Creators, Aura Soma Oracle, Bottanical Deck or other systems Lenormand, Kipper, Runic, Numerology, Solomonic Seals etc you may enjoy. Secondly don't keep the card you don't gel with in the deck, stick them is envelope in the bottom of the box, out of mind out of sight its you deck make it your own. Its sound like you need a oracle that is very structured based. You mention appropriation, there is difference between appropriation and appreciation, if your not even read the book interpretation, and are taking the card at face value this is personal choice, and as i said take them out of the deck if they dont gel with you. Its sound like you need a oracle that is very structured based so when you buy a deck ask yourself why it interests you and how you want to study it and its doesn't not necessarily align the author intended is for.
If you somewhen find a word to express "simple" without sounding even a bit offending please let me know, I'm still searching for it lol. Anyway - I must agree with Morgan-Greer for sure, not long ago I took it to my work (because I have a tin version) (together with one oracle) just to try if it can help me to pull a card if there's... some situation. And I took Morgan-Greer generally only because of the fact that it's a tin version so it's small, but actually expected I would use oracle cards more (for keywords on it). But so far I actually grabbed Morgan-Greer more times and it works exactly like you say - I ask, card answers, done- I can have my snack and go back to cleanroom. And I actually had the tarot for quite some time now and basically never use it at home. Ooh, I got The Citadel oracle just recently and I totally love it! I'm looking forward to see the next video with the other kind of decks. (I mean I look forward every next video you're gonna make, but... you know, that one is related to this one lol)
Totally agree about the Fifth Spirit, it's my go to for my daily pull! The imagery really matches the meaning of the card and ties it to everyday concepts, which makes it easier for me to understand.
My spouse reminded me that I always forget to comment and present an offering to the algorithm gods because I watch you on the TV so today I came to comment first thing. Thank you for keeping me such company Sylvie. Happy pride month! 🏳️🌈
I am the worst for doing that too! I like to think my complete watch time makes up for the lack of comments, but those algorithm gods are hard to please… happy pride! 🏳️🌈
I agree with you about studying systems. I majored in religious studies because I wanted to learn about religious frameworks. there's just something really fascinating about the tarot framework and I haven't found any other oracle system that captures my imagination the way tarot does. 🩷
I know you created this a while ago but I am FINALLY watching this now 😂. This tag is so fun, so I'll definitely be adding this to my growing list of VRs to film since I've been out of the loop. Also funny thing about Crystal Visions: I don't own it, but someone in my in-person tarot meetups got it as her first deck and I'd never seen it before, so I was going 👀 and almost low-key got it lmao, so glad you're having fun with it.
